Playing With Fire

Chapter 4

I could hear my name being called but I didn't sound like Jea. I blinked opened my eyes and started looking around. Where was I? I got up and realized I was on a cliff looking into the ocean. I heard the faint scream of my name again and looked out into the deep sea. Nothing. I turned around and kept searching for the voice.  When it said my name this time I knew it was my mother. I turned back around to the sea and saw her at the bottom of the cliff in the water.

"Jump Skai." She said. Was she crazy? I could die that was too far of a jump even for a werewolf. 

"Mom? I cant Momma.." I said before starting to back up from the ledge.

"Trust me little bird, jump." I started sobbing. I cant believe that after seeing her for the first time in years her she wanted me to jump to my death. I turned around to walk further from the edge when she called out again but this time she sounded more clear and closer. When I turned around I gasped at the sight.

My mother looked as though she was floating on air, but she had water surrounding her like a giant and yet still tidal wave.

"This is what you are, little bird. This is what you can do, now trust me and jump. I will be there to guide you every step of the way. I am so proud of you little bird." I could see the water slowly slipping back into the sea as she called out again. " I love you little bird, do not let them burn you." And with that she was gone and I started sobbing again. I finally muster up the courage and stepped closer to the ledge before throwing myself off and letting the darkness consume me as I fell. It felt like hours before I finally felt the impact of the water against my skin. I thought it was going to sting but I felt like a cloud of pillows when I landed.

When I resurfaced I looked around the water not seeing my mother I started to panic when I did see the huge wave coming my way. As soon as the wave consumed me everything went black again.

I awoke in a panic and sat straight up before coughing up water. I felt like I was drowning. Jea come over the the side of the bed and started rubbing my back and saying something to calm me down but I was only focused on not drowning. 

"Skai its over, calm down you are going to cough yourself to death. It was just a dream." She said as she continues lightly patting my back.

"I saw her Jea. I saw mom, and then I jumped and drowned, whats going on?" I asked in between breaths.

"I know baby, that was her transferring powers to you. You now have the powers of two female Alphas. She knew you would need them, especially if you are destined to be mated to the son of Kaine." She said while looking at me hesitantly.

"What Jea?" I sighed looking at her with my eyebrows arched and head slightly tilted.

"Kaine was the one who set the fire, Skai. He never stopped looking for your mother after she fled. He wanted the marriage to go on and for her to be bred with him to create an offspring that would be feared." 

"Wait what fire Jea?" I started panicking.. "The fire Mom and Dad died in? I thought that was an accident?!"

Jea looked over at me with pity. "She asked to keep you in the dark, I'm only bringing it all to light because of your mate." She paused and got up and walked over to the table before picking her coffee back up. "I don't know if his intentions are the same as his fathers were, but you need to be careful bird, fire and water are opposites and a combination like that is unknown in this world seeing as your mother was the last of her kind. You are the only one left with those abilities and many are going to try and take them. Hide, train, fight. I have to leave you for a while to handle business but stay here if you'd like." She started walking over to the kitchen to put her cup in the sink. Before she reached the door she turned and looked back at me with an emotion I couldn't pin point and then she was gone. 

6 Months Later

I've been training for months and have finally understood the power within. I can make water dance for me just by looking. It was beautiful, but Jea still hast returned and I knew I needed to leave. I haven't been able to reach Henly since I left and I am starting to worry. I walked into the room and packed my book bag back up and headed to my bike before starting my journey home. 

I reached the apartment within hours and parked a block away just in case. I surveyed the building trying to pick up any scent from my mates pack before entering the doors. Once I reached the second floor I smelled her. I walked to the door and knocked lightly enough so only she could hear and then waited. I heard no movement but I could easily smell her in there. I knocked again a little harder, this time hearing footsteps. When the door finally opened it wasn't Henly, but her brother Jax. He looked at me shocked before looking behind and around me for anyone else. He then tugged the front of my jacket and pulled me into a tight hug and moving us inside the apartment. I heard a growl behind us as the door shut and Jax let me go immediately before backing away and standing next to hit mate, Yadira. 

"Oh, Skai, thank Goddess I thought I was going to have to kill someone today." Yadira laughed before coming over and hugging me. She was beautiful with her short black hair and grey eyes that blended well with her dark brown skin. She was also from the White Claw pack with Jax.

 Her arms suddenly hit her side and she stumbled back looking scared. She looked over to Jax who was smiling sheepishly at her before looking down.

"Whats wrong?" I questioned before looking past them to Henly's bedroom door. 

"Why didn't you tell me!?" She started yelling at Jax. s**t she knows, I forgot that I can be recognized by other supernaturals now. 

"It's my fault, Yadira, I am so sorry but I couldn't let anyone know." I hope she doesn't kill Jax before I get to ask him where Henly was. 

"But.. but how? Your aura is too strong for the scent concealer.. Oh god you're an ALPHA? I JUST MADE A JOKE ABOUT KILLING AN ALPHA??!!.." She looked about to faint, Jax started rubbing circles in her back and reassuring her that he didn't know that last part and apologizing. He looked back up at me expecting an explanation. 

"Where is Henly?" I started walking towards her room before Jax grabbed my arm.

"Don't Skai, lets talk first okay?" I ignored him before continuing to her door and opening it up expecting to see her painting her toes or dancing to stupid rave music but instead she's laying on her bed, dead.
