Playing With Fire

Chapter 5

I don't know how long I stood there just staring at her lifeless body before Jax appeared beside me and pulled me into his chest. I was sobbing and trying to push him away before Yadira came over and held me close too. We stayed like that for what felt like an hour before I was able to pull back and look up to Jax.

"What happened?" My face was emotionless now, the crying was stopped and I was focused on the truth.

"My Alpha, Tate, heard a rumor about the Alpha of River Ash pack looking for you. He wanted to know why so he sent a few pack members here to look for you or anyone that can give him answers, I didn't know about any of this." He was hurting, but hes the Beta how did he not know. 

" Jax he is YOUR Alpha what do you mean you didn't know?" I'm angry now, the only person who I have truly loved on many levels is dead, along with the only family I've ever known. 

"He went behind my back Skai, I didn't know, truly. I guess Henly refused to let the men in and they took extreme measures to get inside. They beat her and even r***d her. I left the pack when I heard and came straight here. Yadira was here first, she cleaned her up and got her into the bed..." He paused and a tear slipped from his eye before he continued. "But she was too far gone before I got here.. I couldn't save her, I failed her.."

"No, this is my fault. I'm sorry Jax, I should have never ran away. I was scared and I needed to find out the truth before I returned."

"Why is Hakan looking for you, Skai?" Yadira stepped closer to Jax before looking back to me.

"I am his Mate.." I sighed before looking down to the ground ashamed of leaving her alone. I heard them both gasp before looking at each other and back at me.

"You need to leave Skai. Tate has been feuding with Hakan for years and he will kill you if he knows the truth. I won't let you die too.."

"I'm not leaving again. I'm stronger than you think Jax, I am an Alpha and I will stand and fight like one."

"Fine, but you're not staying here, pack your s**t and lets go before he sends more people." Yadira said looking back to Jax "and we need to leave your sister here Jax, make it look like we weren't here at all. We'll come back for her once we know he doesn't have men watching the place." She placed a kiss on his cheek before going into kitchen to clean the bloody bandages off the sink.

"Where will you go?" I looked to Jax who had his face buried in the hands.

"WE are going to the River Ash pack. You need the protection from Tate, hes not mentally stable since his mate died." He said as he stood up and picked up a bag off the floor with some of Hens stuff inside."He is your mate, he wont hurt you and maybe he can help you with the Tate situation."

"NO. I can't go, but you two need too. Explain what happened but leave me out of it. Maybe he will take you in. But I cannot go yet, I'm sorry Jax." He looked at me like I spoke another language.

" I WILL NOT LEAVE YOU SKAI.. " he paused and took a deep breath, "You are my Alpha now, I will not leave you alone. We stick together. All three of us" he said as Yadira enter the living room.

"I agree with him, Skai. We join you before we join another pack. You are family."

"No, I love you guys, but we are not a pack. I am not a real Alpha. I cannot protect you two if something happens. You need to leave, I will find my way, promise."

"Sorry but were not leaving you. Also you are an Alpha, and a strong one at that we can sense it coming from you." Jax said annoyed and Yadira shook her head in agreement with him. 

"FINE, you two need pack protection then so be it. Lets make our way into Ash territory.." I stormed out before they could say anything. I don't want to go there. I'm not ready to see my mate whose family destroyed my life. What if hes like his father? Or what if he rejects me? Maybe I can talk him into taking in Jax and Yadira before making my escape. Yes that's what I will do.. Goddess please let this work. 

I decided to take my bike and follow them in the car that way I have an escape vehicle once I get them settled. The drive into their territory was a little over an hour from the apartment. Akira was feeling excited during the drive. She kept playing scenarios in our head on how the meet will go.

'What if he rejects us Akira'

'He won't, we are his mate.' She said

'He could kill us, like his father did to Momma' 

'Trust the Goddess Skai' I blocked her after that, feeling too nervous to see anymore of her little scenes.

We came to a stop about 1 mile from the border of the territory. 

"We walk from here." Jax said before helping Yadira out of the car.

"Fine lets shift, it'll be quicker this way. " I said before taking my jacket off.

"No no no its fine, its just a mile we can walk it." He said before turning away from me.

"Whats your problem Jax, its not like we haven't seen each other naked before." Yadira knew about me and Jax when they first met. She never cared because they were Mates and she thought I was some human. I looked over to her with a questioning look.

"I can't shift Skai."She said while placing her hands on her belly and rubbing.

"Oh.. OH! Goddess really? I'm so happy for you guys! But wait we shouldn't be coming into their territory then. What if they attack? You cant defend yourself. We need to turn back Jax, we will find another way."

I started turning around when Jax grabbed me and pleaded with his eyes. "We need to go, please. I can't defend her myself against Tates pack."

"Fine, but Yadira stays in between us. I walk first and you behind her. Keep your eyes and ears open. You're from an enemy pack Jax, they will try and attack. Be prepared."

"Yes, Alpha." With a smile he turned around and held Yadiras hand as we ventured forward.
