Chapter Nineteen

I walked into the lobby of Whispers Resort right at eight a.m. and headed towards the elevator. I wasn’t going to let Ember dodge my questions, but I knew I had to get Madison out of earshot before I began asking anything.
Knocking three times, I called out, “Ember? Maddy?”
I did not hear anything. I knew Ember might not answer the door, but Madison would’ve opened it no matter what her mother said. Looking down the hallway, I saw one of the maid carts at the very end, as the cleaning had already begun.
After borrowing her master keycard, I went back and swiped it, opening the door to find that all their things were gone. “s**t!”
