After a grocery trip and delivery back to Ian’s childhood home, they got on the road. They didn’t speak the whole time. Ian followed behind Elizabeth while they were at Walmart, his eyes scanning the area for any signs of danger. Their eyes met several times, but each time they both looked away without another word. She glanced out of the car window. She’d been trying to read the same entry in Emily’s journal over and over again, but she couldn’t concentrate. Her thoughts kept returning to the almost-kiss with Ian. She wasn’t sure why Ian was so angry with her about it. After all, he was the one who leaned toward her. “We need to stop for gas.” She nodded. “Are you okay?” “Yeah.” Her stomach growled, and she winced. “We’ll get something to eat at the gas station.” She nodded again
