Chapter 2
Pipers pov
“What the hell is going on mom?”
To give her credit, my mom gives me a sheepish look before answering. “Well, I know your dad and I couldn’t afford to buy you a car when you got your license, but with your dad’s new job he will be making more money and this is kind of a gift from his new boss for moving up here.”
“Wait, what? No way?” I am staring at my mother in total shock. I was so blown away that I didn’t notice my father approaching the car and jumped when he opened the door.
My father rocks the typical young professor look perfectly. Sandy brown hair with a dusting of salt and pepper, intelligent bright blue eyes behind metal framed glasses, all topped off with a tweed coat and blue jeans. Just like my mom, he also had a thousand watt smile.
“Oh jeez, sorry Pipes, I didn’t mean to startle you. So what do you think? Wanna check it out?” he asked while pointing at the jeep.
I slowly climbed out of the car staring at the jeep with my mouth open. “So let me get this straight. Your new boss, who I have never met, is giving me a jeep as a sign on bonus for us moving out here?”
I walked to the jeep with Dad and couldn’t contain my excitement. The inside was incredible. Black leather interior, full surround stereo system, all top of the line touch screen system. I really couldn’t believe what was happening.
“He was going to sell it because he just bought a new one but when I told him about you he offered it to you. He seemed really grateful we moved up here to accept the position.”
My dad was a college professor who specializes in myth and literature. He has traveled to world learning from different cultures and has actually published a lot of books. Now what a rich man in his early 20s who lived in the middle of nowhere would want with my dad still has me puzzled.
