Chapter 9
Pipers pov
Mom took a deep breath and then began to tell me the strangest story I have ever heard.
“This will be a lot to absorb, but please keep an open mind, Piper. You know the myths and legends that your father studies? Well some of them are actual true history. There are such things as werewolves and vampires and witches in this world and I know this because I am one of them. My parents are wolf shifters and live in a pack in Oregon. I have a younger brother and sister there as well. You have never met them because I never gained my wolf when I turned 18 so the Alpha of the pack, who was my father, banished me.”
“You see, when a shifter turns 18, they become an adult. They gain their animal counterpart and are able to feel their mate,” mother continued. “The day after I turned 18, your grandfather gave me a car, the keys to an apartment in the city, and a thousand dollars cash and banished me from the pack lands because I couldn’t shift and I was a disgrace.”
So far I was in complete shock over what my mother was telling me. I was expecting her to say Gotcha! and laugh about it. But as she continued her story I could tell she truly believed what she was telling me.
“So that day I packed everything I owned into the car and drove away from my family with a broken heart. All I had was the address to the apartment my father had bought me. I had no direction to really go in with my life other than that. After about a week I found a job as a waitress in a trashy run down dinner. The food was great there so tips were great. That became my life. Work and going home to my lonely apartment.”
“Then about a year later, I met your father. He was on a cross country trip working on his thesis about paranormal legends throughout the country. He hung around town for about a month, coming into the diner every night and sitting in my section. After the lonely year I had had it was easy to fall in love with your father. I decided to just take a leap of faith and follow my heart, So I packed up my apartment and left with him. And it ended up being the best decision of my life because I have had no regrets.”
She sighed as she finished her story. “You know the rest. How I found you and how we have loved you every day since.”
