The word echoes into an endless void in my head, going on forever. How is this possible? A Werewolf is only able to find their Mate when they reach 18 so how am I able to sense him when I'm still 17, not to mention me not having my Awakenings yet... "Mate! Mate!" Leria screams in my head, making me snap out of the trance Damien has placed me under. "I think I noticed." I snap back at her for yelling so loud, a small frown forming on my eyebrows. I am as excited as she is, trust me. I've finally found my Mate, and he is going to be our new Alpha... I feel joy begin to overwhelm me, and it makes me fidgety and unable to sit still in my chair so I begin to tap my hand involuntarily and tightly against my thigh as I wait for him to finish speaking. "- and I promise to abide by the rules of the Pack." I zone out on his whole speech, being distracted by his undeniably sexy voice. The crowd roars and claps loudly, appreciating the speech he has given us, but soon Alpha Raymond, raises his hand to the crowd in order for them to quiet down, just before Damien gets down on one knee before his Father, keeping his head down, as he rests his elbow on his knee. The crowd grows silent and we all watch anxiously as Alpha Raymond places his hand on Damien's head and closes his eyes. "Kudar mari protez'ec kes mari goddess dez pawa gurundoso aliz shela, rem volar vo onaaz mari wav doh mari Lycanistravas dez uruz ry pawa vo reindaz bonna'ir dez vakadovo draveish..."(Under the protection of the goddess and the power granted by her, I vow to honour the way of the Lycanthrope and use my power to reinforce good and vanquish evil...") Damien recites the ancient code of the Viraai just as his father nods his head at him. It is one we were meant to live by, but I have to say, my Pack hasn't exactly abided by those rules in the past. "Rem herova minar dezo terta do Alpha vo ry suno, Damien Black. Mai hela leii valem ni patos kes mari Viraai." (I hereby hand down the title of Alpha to my son, Damien Black. May he guide us in the path of the Viraai.) "Mai hela leii valem ni patos kes mari Viraai." We all repeat, acknowledging that Damien is now our Alpha, and as soon as we all speak, I feel a wave of energy that courses through my body and gives me a series of chills which makes Leria howl in my head loudly. From the looks of it, I'm not the only one that feels it. Everyone around me begins to murmur amongst themselves and it is then that I notice the eyes of those around me glow in their respective colours. Soon everyone begins to cheer once again and I face forward to see that Damien is now rising to his feet and is looking at the crowd, a proud smile on his face as he keeps his head raised high. He is now the Alpha... The crowd soon roars with excitement as they cheer him on, and soon after the head Family walks off the platform, people begin to get up from their seats and celebrate and congratulate our Leader. But he's not just my Alpha... he's my Mate, and I desperately need to speak with him. Naomi and I get up along with the others and begin to make our way back to the Packhouse. "Glad that's over..." Naomi rolls her eyes slightly. It's no secret that my sister doesn’t like Damien. In fact, she hates him and she thinks he is undeserving of the Alpha title, and according to her, he doesn't have what it takes to be one. How am I even going to tell her that he is my Mate...? "Hey, Naomi..." I say and it makes her come to a stop and look down at me. "Yeah?" She answers. "I'll see you a little later okay? I'm just gonna go talk to the Alpha..." I say to my sister just as she frowns down at me and looks in the direction where Damien is currently standing with his friends. "What, why?" She shakes her head slightly, a distasteful look printed on her face and it immediately makes me feel nervous for having to lie to her. "I just, wanna go congratulate him that's all..." I try to say but she doesn't seem to be buying it at all. "Okay... let me come with you then." She insists and walks towards Damien's direction but I quickly step in front of her to stop her from going anywhere. "N-no, that won't be necessary, I won't even take long," I say, trying to hide my nervousness so that she is to onto me. "W-why don't you go find Ezra, I'm sure he's looking for you now that the ceremony is over. Her frown soon relaxes as she lets out a defeated sigh and gives me a small nod. "Come look for me if you need me okay, I love you." She tells me before I smile softly at her and give her a warm hug. "I love you too sis," I say back before I let go and smile at her, soon walking away and looking around if I can try and spot Damien. I suck in a shaky breath as I look around and try to spot him, all while I ignore the unpleasant stares I am receiving from my fellow Pack members. I spot Damien talking with a different set of people, smiling and laughing along with them as the girls that surround him try all they can to impress him with their flattering compliments. I don’t have the full powers of a Werewolf because I haven't shifted yet so I don’t have enhanced senses. Yet, I am still able to communicate with my Wolf and pick up the scent of my Mate... This is all so confusing. "There he is!" Leria barks just as she notices him as well. And as soon as she does, he turns to face me. Wait, did he just hear her...? "Oh my God he's looking this way!" She continues barking excitedly but all I feel is nervousness. He frowns at me slightly and I watch him exhale slowly before he says something to the group of people that surround him and begins to walk off deep into the woods. "W-where is he going?" I ask Leria in my head, feeling slightly hurt from having him walk away from me. "Follow me." I hear a deep voice in my head and it instantly gives me chills. It's his voice... My feet carry me forward before I can even instruct them to and I begin walking in the direction he is going. He is walkking fast, as if he is trying to get away from everyone and it makes me curious as to where he is even going. Because I can not keep up, I eventually lose sight of him and find myself deep in the woods, surrounded by tall green trees and shrubs and bushes. Where the hell did he go? I walk around a few large rocks and fallen logs before I come to a stop and begin searching around for him but he is nowhere to be found... until I feel a strong presence behind me, one of an Alpha. "Kayla." I hear his hoarse voice say behind me, causing me to jump and turn around to face him. I can't believe he remembers my name! There he stands, my Alpha of a Mate dressed from head to toe in all black, his hair neat and shiny as his blue eyes pierce into mine. But, something is wrong... he doesn't seem pleased to see me and simply stares at me with a look of genuine anger and annoyance and I don't understand why he would have such a dark expression on his face... "M-mate..." I mutter, failing to fight back the smile that develops on my lips. I am about to walk closer to him but before I can, he holds his hands up, stopping me from taking another step. "Do not call me that." His harsh voice strikes me like a hard blow to the head. "You can't be my Mate." He shakes his head in disgust as his eyes travel up and down my body, making me feel insecure in my own skin. "B-but, you are my Mate." I stutter. I can already feel the tears burning my eyes as I refuse for them to fall. "I don't want you." He scoffs with a sickening laugh. With that I let my tears fall as I take his hurtful words in. "He doesn't want me?" Leria whimpers selfishly in my head, only thinking about herself. "W-why n-not?" I ask, my voice breaking as I attempt to speak in clear sentences. "Are you honestly asking me that?" He laughs humourlessly as he takes a few steps towards me. "You're the ugliest girl I've ever seen. I mean you barely eat anything and look like a f*****g stick figure with a big head. You're the pack Omega. You're the weakest and most fragile. Like a pup or something. I can't have you be my Luna, you will only be an embarrassment to me and to the Pack, more than you already are. I need someone strong, beautiful. Someone like Barbara. I can't have you by my side when you're- well you." He finishes off ripping my heart out. Every single word, every f*****g letter hurt me. They sink into my head and body, reaching to the depths of my soul and tearing it into uncountable pieces. I've experienced a substantial amount of emotional and even physical abuse from those around me, but never had I known it would one day come from my own Mate as well. The person I am supposed to be paired with for the rest of my life. My other half who is meant to be with me through thick and thin... Probably a bad choice of words. We are supposed to love each other, or at least learn to, care for each other and protect each other, no matter what. That's the definition of a Mate. "How could you say that?" I cry out, my voice shaky as I am on the verge of breaking down completely, my body trembling in fear and shock as his 6'0 frame towers over my petite one. "Because, the truth hurts..." He speaks, his face blank, his tone harsh and cold. "Please-... please don't do this to me..." I beg him, moving closer to him and reaching for his arm, but he simply moves away from me, avoiding my contact. My heart aches painfully in my chest as a result of his actions... my own Mate doesn’t want me anywhere near him... "I have to." He replies me bluntly, eyes me from head to toe before he takes in a deep breath. He's not really going to do it... is he... "Please-..." I continue to plead, tears rolling down my cheeks, stepping closer to him once again but he does the same thing as before and takes a step back, this time looking at me with nothing but disgust. "I, Damien Black reject you, Kayla Michel as my Mate..." That's it. I am broken...
