Life after Wonderland
I'm pulled from my dream by the insistence ringing of my phone. Ugh. Why? No one calls me anymore. My family disowned me because of that time I was " lost". I still find their wording laughable even after all this time. Oh God enough with this train of thought already it'll just but me in a bad mood all day. And I hear the phone start ringing again , who in the world is that. I sit up and reach towards the nightstand to grab my phone. And before I look at who's calling I answer it.
" Hello."
I say with my voice is raspy from sleep.
" Lexi is that you?"
A very high and babyish voice comes across the line. Ugh I know who this is and damn it, all I wanted was one day off. But it doesn't look like I'm going to get it.
" Yes it's me. What going on Savannah.?"
I continue like I don't already know. I'm guessing she's found herself another daddy and wants me to take her shift so she can play. Or she's hung over or drunk. I've had all her calls and heard all her excuses. But what the hell right. I can always sleep when I'm dead.
" Oh Lexi thank god you answered. I'm really in a bind love. Can you possibly take my shift for the next couple of days?"
Savannah says in a rush. Oh boy this is going to be good.
" Um, why what's going on?"
I ask. I'm actually curious about this.
" Well you see I'm in the cell's right now. It's really not my fault. I didn't know he was that drunk and he was driving and then it turned out to be a stolen car. Can you believe my bad luck. And the coppers won't believe me that it's not my fault. They are so cruel. So how about it love can you please work for me until my daddy come to fix this."
She ends all breathy and dramatic. I'm shocked. This is a new one. And not one she'd have the mental capacity of coming up with one herself.
" Sure Savannah but you'll owe me big time. "
I say still dumb found.
" Oh you are such a life saver. Thanks love I won't forget it."
Savannah says and before she hangs up I can hear the background and how her time is up for the phone use. Wow. Is all I can think about. And with that I get out of bed to start my day. I actually love my job. I'm a performer at a popular cafe in London. We give everyone a show with their meal. Every month we change themes, this month is Alice and Wonderland. I used to love this story. I watched all the movies but now it just bring up all my old memories I tried to bury. No wonder I'm having these flash backs. Why everyone else in the world thinks it's a fairy tale I alone know the truth. The story's are real Wonderland is a real place in a different dimension with its entrance to it right under London. It depends on if you go through a rabbit hole in the ground or a well you will end up there. Well not just like that you have to have something that was made from that world to enter if not you will die being ripped apart. Ugh. No more. I've put that behind me where it belongs. After my shower and getting into my street clothes and putting my hair back into a mess bun. I grab my backpack and turn to leave but something stops me. A feeling twisting in my stomach. I wait a few minutes but then I turn and grab my interlocking rings that I put on a chain. And slip it over my head. Once there around my neck I settle down to walk out the front door.
