Alex's eyes seemed to bore into Emily's soul, as if daring her to reveal what she had discovered. But Emily stood her ground, her curiosity getting the better of her.
"Who was the survivor?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Alex's gaze faltered, and for a moment, Emily saw a glimmer of vulnerability. Then, his mask slipped back into place.
"No one," he growled, turning to leave.
But Emily wasn't convinced. She sensed that Alex was hiding something, and she was determined to uncover the truth.
As the days passed, Emily noticed strange occurrences around the office. Papers went missing, and whispers seemed to follow her everywhere. She began to suspect that someone was watching her, waiting for her to uncover the secrets Alex kept hidden.
One night, as she left the office, Emily saw a figure lurking in the shadows. It was a woman, her face obscured by a hoodie.
"Who are you?" Emily demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.
The woman stepped forward, revealing piercing green eyes. "I'm Sarah," she said, her voice low and mysterious. "And I'm the one who's been hiding in plain sight."
Sarah revealed that she was the survivor of the car accident, the one who had been with Alex that fateful night. And she had a secret, one that could change everything.
