Two days had passed since Lily's revelations about Skylar. Anger growled and rose within the pack for whom, in Skylar's absence, those responsible for the ignominy she had committed were her parents. At best, they were marginalized in public places. While some pointed at them in whispers among themselves, others openly expressed their hostility. Skylar's parents didn't dare come out to avoid any altercation that would make things worse. They remained cloistered at home all day long. It even became dangerous to try to find their daughter, even at night. The rank and importance of members within the pack was determined by innate physical abilities. But the situation had become so serious that voices were being raised demanding John's forfeiture of his beta status. Others would even demand his outright banishment. From his office perched atop a mountain that overlooked Blackmoon pack territory, Alpha Kane had seen a growing uproar and knew the reasons behind it. Added to this, the suspicion of the presence of lycans among the werewolves of the pack kept tormenting him. He then called an important meeting with his betas. The alpha , Kane , a large, imposing werewolf with piercing brown eyes, sat at the head of the long wooden table in the dimly lit meeting room. Around this table, his betas who were faithful and loyal to him, a group usually made up of four werewolves. Except this time, one of the seats was empty. "Brothers," alpha kane began, his deep voice echoing throughout the room. I gathered you here, because I have a very important information to reveal to you. As you can see, John is not with us, despite being one of my betas. Cause his daughter Skylar is a curse to our pack so he is too." His betas who were present, looked around and did not actually see John. Alpha Kane continued, " I have come to the decision that we must take John away from our pack. We cannot risk the safety of our pack and the balance of the supernatural world." Memphis, one of Kane's betas spoke up, "Alpha Kane, it's a wise decision because even if he is of our rank, the whole pack can no longer support his presence within it." "Too little to say." replied Condor, the most intransigent of the betas. "Since it is precisely his status that makes his daughter's crime unforgivable. I plead on behalf of those who think he should be ostracized. His mere presence threatens the cohesion of our pack." "Come on, come on..." resumed William, the most flexible of the three betas present. "Of course John is partly responsible for the choices of his offspring, but that's no reason to brush aside what John has done for our pack so far." Kane leaned forward a moment, his eyes fixed on the betas."We will not abandon him. John will be given a chance to redeem himself and to prove his loyalty to our pack. But for now, he must stay away from us and our pack until we can be sure that Skylar is no longer a threat." The betas nodded in agreement, understanding the gravity of the situation. Kane stood up, his towering figure casting a shadow over the room. “I also called you here to discuss a much more sensitive subject. I have reason to believe that there are lycans spying on our territory. They are among us." He said in a deep voice. His betas glanced at each other in concern, surprised by this disturbing and confusing statement. "How do you know this, my alpha?" Memphis asked. "I've picked up their scent and tracks in the forest," the alpha replied, leaning forward on the table. "They're not from our pack." The betas nodded in understanding, their expressions grim. "We must find a way to unmask them," the alpha declared. "We cannot allow outsiders to interfere with our affairs. This is a flagrant violation of our territory. " The betas nodded in agreement, their eyes burning with determination. "But how do we go about it?" Someone asked. The alpha sat and leaned back in his chair, deep in thought. "We'll have to set a trap," he said finally. "Lure them out into the open and confront them." " And if we unmask them, they can tell us where Skylar is being held." Another one said. The betas nodded in understanding, their jaws set in determination. "But we must be careful," the alpha warned. "Lycans are smart and merciless. They could be dangerous." The betas nodded again, their eyes fixed on their alpha. "We'll need to plan carefully," the alpha continued. "And we'll need to move quickly. We don't know what they're after or how much they know about our pack." The betas nodded once more, their expressions determined. The alpha stood up, signaling the end of the meeting. "We'll reconvene tomorrow night," he said. "Be ready to discuss our plan of action." As the betas filed out of the room, the alpha remained seated, his eyes fixed on the empty chairs around him. He knew that the stakes were high and the safety of his pack was at risk. He couldn't afford to fail. *** Darkfire Grendel, one of the betas of the lycan king entered the king's private room, bowing low before his ruler. The room was dimly lit by a few flickering torches, casting long shadows across the stone walls. The king sat upon a large throne, carved from the bones of fallen enemies, his massive frame imposing and powerful. He wore a simple tunic of black leather, adorned with silver clasps and a thick fur cloak draped across his broad shoulders. "What news do you bring, Grendel ? " the king asked, his voice rumbling like thunder. "The people are crying out for blood, my king," the beta replied, his eyes darting nervously around the room. "They demand justice for the act committed by Asher and that werewolf." The king leaned forward, his eyes narrowing. " It had to happen , it's in our nature, but it's annoying because Asher hasn't fully recovered from his wounds yet, he can't present himself showing up weakens in front of the people, he will return a bad image as a successor". The King's attitude was starting to seriously annoy Grendel, but he didn't let it show. "I understand your concerns, my king," Grendel said, his tone respectful. "But we cannot ignore the will of the people. We must act swiftly and decisively to restore order and maintain the peace." The king sighed, his expression softening. "You're right, Grendel. As always, you see the bigger picture. Very well, When Asher recovers fully, within two or three days I think, he will execute that wolf to calm the crowd and serve as an example." Grendel nodded, pleased with the king's decision. "I will make the necessary arrangements and inform the people about it. We must ensure that justice is served." The king stood up, his regal bearing commanding respect from Grendel. "Thank you, Grendel. You are a true ally and advisor to me. Together, we will lead our kingdom to greatness. I let you take care of the preparations for the execution. If the people are claiming blood, they will have blood. Now i would like some alone time." Grendel bowed respectfully, a small smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "It is my honor to serve you, my king." As he left the room, Grendel's smile faded. But he was determined to see it through, to punish Asher and that wolf to ensure that justice was served and the peace was maintained. And that even if it was necessary to disobey the king . Grendel spent the next few hours in his laboratory. He had recently captured a group of werewolves, and he was determined to use them to make himself stronger. He had always been fascinated by their abilities, and he believed that if he could unlock their secrets, he could become invincible and eventually immortal. In the depths of the basements of the royal castle, far from prying eyes and windows, and in the greatest of secrets, Grendel continued his experiments. on living werewolves whom he reinforced beforehand with various concoctions, he tested their ability to bear the pain, exceeding their limits under incessant howls and supplications, until they succumbed. On the others, armed with gloves, he carefully extracted samples from their corpse, taking blood, tissue, and hair samples. He ran tests on the samples, analyzing their DNA and studying their physical and mental abilities. As he worked, Grendel felt a sense of excitement building within him. He knew that what he was doing was dangerous, and that he was disobeying the king's orders. But he couldn't help himself. The lure of power and immortality was too great.
