"No, you're lying. Asher will never hurt me." Skylar shouted.
Ginger crouches down, sliding her fingers over the bars. "That's what you think, but the reality is quite different. Until now, I've never lied to you. Why would I do it now?"
"You are ridiculous, my dear. I would almost cry for you. How could you, a f*****g werewolf, think for a moment that a lycan could feel the slightest ounce of love for you?" Ginger said, looking disdainfully at Skylar before continuing.
"Acher only used you to accomplish his mission. It's too bad for you. You won't realize that until he cuts off your head. I can't wait to be there."
Skylar smiled. "Even if you were right about Asher, the energy you put into trying to convince me that he doesn't love me would have made me doubt you." Skylar said, then shook her head and continued.
“No, you weren't there that day when we bumped into each other in the street. We had gone so long without seeing each other that he couldn't help kissing me; or that day he valiantly fought against his people to protect me; or all those times Asher declared his love for me. No, you weren't here, otherwise you wouldn't be here talking to me."
Skylar, locked in her cell, continued to talk about her love for Asher despite Ginger's hurtful words.
"It's true, I'm a werewolf, but that doesn't change my feelings for Asher. He's the one I love, and I know he loves me back." Skylar spoke quietly, almost as if talking to herself. Ginger, on the other side of the cell, listened with a mixture of anger and jealousy.
"You're pathetic," Ginger finally said. "You don't understand anything about him or me. Asher will never love you. He can't afford to love a werewolf, even if he wants to. You are nothing to him, just a pawn in his plan."
Skylar shook her head. "You can't understand how I feel about him. It's something real and deep. He'll be there for me, even if you forbid him."
It was too much for Ginger, who violently hit the bars while shouting "That's enough!".
She felt anger welling up inside her, jealousy of Skylar and Asher's bond consuming her. She began to transform slowly, hair was beginning to appear on her face and her eyes were glowing bright red. Then, she stopped her transformation and resumed her normal state.
Like a storm, she rushed towards the exit of the cells but could not help but turn around to the last word. "In two days, your big mouth will be in hell." Then she disappeared into the darkness.
After hearing the complaints of the people, the Lycan King decided to go to the infirmary to see Asher.
The door to the infirmary swung open and in walked the Lycan King. Asher had been lying in bed, staring at the ceiling, when he heard his father's heavy footsteps. The king came over to Asher's bedside and placed a hand on his son's shoulder.
"How are you feeling?" he asked in a formal tone.
"I'm okay, just a little sore," Asher replied, struggling to keep the anger out of his voice.
"I heard about what happened," the King continued, "I'm sorry that you were injured. But, I have more urgent matters to discuss with you."
Asher braced himself for what was to come. He knew why his father was really there.
"As you know, in two days' time, I will be executing that werewolf girl. People want to see you prove your loyalty now that you've recovered," the King said.
Asher couldn't believe what he was hearing. "You can't just execute her! She's done nothing wrong!"
"Her crime is being a werewolf," the King replied coldly. "And as for you, I heard some disturbing news from Ginger. She thinks you're dating that werewolf for information."
Asher's blood boiled, but he kept his composure. He knew that reacting negatively would only make things worse.
"I'm not dating her for information," Asher said through gritted teeth. "I care about her."
The King raised an eyebrow skeptically. "That's funny, because Ginger seemed pretty convinced. In any case, there's no room for werewolves in our society, especially not in our family. Besides, I have the firm belief that she tried and continued to seduce you even after discovering that you were a. You probably had to tell her at some point or another to gain her trust."
Asher not reacting to these words, the king understood he had been right.
"My son, even if she made you drink a love potion or something like that, you will break this evilism by executing her with your hands." He insisted.
Asher clenched his fists, feeling more helpless than ever before. His father was the Lycan King and he had to obey him, but this time, it was tearing him apart inside.
"I understand," Asher said finally, struggling to keep his voice steady. "I'll do what needs to be done."
The King nodded once and then turned on his heel, leaving Asher alone in the infirmary, seething with rage. He knew he had to find a way to save Skylar, but how?
Having been strictly forbidden to visit Skylar, it was impossible for him to help her escape.
No matter how hard Asher racked his brains, no concrete solution to save Skylar came to mind.
Perfused in his thoughts, he was seriously beginning to consider pretending not to have recovered from his injuries yet, to delay Skylar's execution.
During the day, Grendel had been busy spreading the news of Skylar's execution throughout the city and installing the execution device he had specially designed for the occasion.
The meticulous scientist that he was neglected no detail. Despite the Lycan king's multiple refusals, he had never taken his final goal of reducing werewolves to s*****y from his mind, and he intended to take advantage of this execution, which would appease the anger of the pack, to spread his ideals.
In the evening, he returned to his laboratory where he then spent more and more time.
As for Skylar, she had been meditating on her fate since the moment of Ginger's visit. Despite the words of consolation from Mathis, who had heard all of their conversation, despair was winning her over.
She slowly lay down on the rocky floor of her cell, getting ready to spend one of her last nights alive, her thoughts directed to Asher, who was probably her last hope for recovery and perhaps, one day, to see her family and friends again.
but Skylar couldn't help wondering if Ginger was right about Asher, if she wasn't just a pawn in his plan.

The Alpha Kane betas had gathered around him again as agreed the day before.
To the right of Kane, Memphis and Condor, the most intransigent betas, and to his left, two empty seats, those of William and John, Skylar's father.
More than a quarter of an hour had already passed while waiting for the beta William.
Condor, who was fuming from within, could no longer contain himself and broke the silence. "Alpha Kane, forgive my impertinence, but beta William's attitude towards you is extremely disappointing. How can he make you wait on time for such an important meeting?"
"I agree with you, Condor. Should we have reminded William of the urgency of capturing the lycans who have infiltrated our territory?" Memphis added.
Alpha Kane, who remained calm and unfazed, showed no signs of annoyance. He finally spoke. "William's attitude puzzles me, I must admit, but I recognize the fact that he never failed in his duty to the pack. Let's give him a few more minutes."
No sooner had he finished his sentence than the door of the room opened wide, letting in William.
He bowed in rêverence before Alpha Kane. "Forgive my delay, Alpha. But I was so late because I was gathering information of the utmost importance. The lycans are planning an attack on us," he said with a seriousness that chilled the room.
