Chapter 1
Mari's POV:
"Mari get up before you are late for school again!" Yelled my aunt.
"I'll be down in 5!" I yelled back at my aunt.
I hurried to get ready when I realized I had 15 minutes to get ready,
"s**t" I whispered to myself as I was packing my books into my backpack. I hurried down the stairs to say goodbye to my aunt, once again skipping breakfast.
As I was closing the front door of my house, I saw my friend Max waiting for me in his car. A big smile made its way to my face as I knew I was getting a ride to school today.
" How long were you waiting for me today?" I asked Max.
"About 10 minutes or so" he replied.
To be honest, I had no idea why Max would be waiting outside for me when he could've already gone to school. Max and I have been friends since my aunt and I moved here to California when I was three. Max is two years older than me, he is like a brother to me that I've never had. When he turned 16, he started to act more protective of me. I never understand why he would act over protective of me.
I didn't mind because I kinda liked it, even though the girls at our school hated me for having Max's full attention. Since last year I felt this strange pull towards Max I can't describe what this feeling is, but I am able to sense when he would enter the room.
I don't have memories of my parents at all. I've lived with my aunt since I was one year old. She told me that my parents died in a car crash by a drunk driver. I haven't seen pictures of my parents, especially of my mom. My aunt says she is still hurt and doesn't feel ready to see the pictures of my parents.
Living with my aunt has been great. She takes good care of me as if I was her own child.
