Chapter 1 Ismene
The howls of wolves could be heard from afar as the full moon shone brightly up the sky.
Ismene kept staring at the sky, as she bit her nails.
This was one of those times, she'd find joy in staying alone and looking at the sky.
She had never expected things to turn out the way they did.
She was sitting under the cave, near the mountain and when she thought that peace was on her side..her sister had come looking for her.
"You godforsaken weakling, can you just stop acting like this and let father and mother be at peace!" She yelled.
Ismene said nothing, just like usual.
She didn't blame Eline, it was her fault for getting adopted by a family that never considered her as part of them.
Wait a minute? Was she even part of the family?
"Are you done? The full moon is coming so slowly, I didn't know my sweet sister would come to look for me so quickly." Ismene huffed.
"You shouldn't worry about the full moon dear sister, you should worry more about yourself! How would you act knowing that there's nothing the full moon can do for you or to you, unlike me you're just some pathetic excuse of a child."
"If I were you, I'd watch my tongue dear sister."
"What would you do Ismene? Pick up a rope and whip me? I thought better." Eline Chuckled, stamping her feet as she walked away.
Ismene sat back on the rock.
Earlier the week she had learned about her wolf form. There was no wolf form, she was just some female that could mate with any male.
She was beginning to think that Eline was right...maybe she was just some pathetic excuse of a child.
Wetting her lips, she headed for the house.
"Where are you coming from Ismene? There are so many packed-up clothes upstairs for you to wash and some curtains packed in the storage room don't forget to clean the cabinets when you're done. All these would have been cleaned and washed years ago if you didn't go fucking."
"Remember Ma, no crude words and no. I didn't go fucking." Ismene replied, rolling her eyes as she climbed the stairs.
Her feet gave way and she staggered but stood her ground on the stairs.
Why were they slippery? She could remember cleaning and mobbing them this morning!
"Oh and don't forget to mob the ground too, your sister brought friends and they threw a little party."
Ismene chuckled lightly, her lips curved into a smile.
The annual celebration was near and she was up to age to get a mate and leave.
Leaving long ago had been in her mind but she had to repay them for taking her in.
Sooner or later they'd regret making her suffer, that was a given.
"Hi, Gretchen." She waved at the older woman down the stairs as she watered the garden.
"Hi Ismene, come down when you're free. I have something to tell you." She nodded, smiling as she continued to wave.
Their compound was a round one, with two buildings facing each other.
Well, she was an independent woman and she had never once cried to anyone for help.
But if it hadn't been Mrs. Gretchen, the oldest woman in the clan, she would have been cooked to death by her mother and sister.
"What are you still doing sweetie? Come downstairs, come greet our guest." She knew who it was.
Whenever he needed her and visited, her mother would be the nicest she had ever seen, but when he was gone.. the woman would turn vile.
The guest was none other than Alpha Maxdole, the Alpha of the Coral Spring.
Ismene had never heard a thing about him before she met him.
He was sweet and that was it, she had fallen so deeply in love. He was cool and she loved him.
Although he was not the most powerful Alpha, he had a small amount of power.
When she would present herself at the annual celebration, he would choose her as his mate and they would live together forever. Well..that was her vision.
A vision she was sure would come to pass.
"Alpha Maxdole." She giggled, running down the stairs and into his arms.
"Easy there, your little peanut." He mumbled.
"How are you doing, Alpha? Would you mind drinking first before leaving?"
Ismene shook her head.
Her mother was never nice, the woman was set to ruin her life and although she had helped her and taken her from the orphanage, there was a certain line one was not meant to cross.
"Be gentle to the Alpha you problematic slut!" Her mother sent daggers with her eyes.
"Let's go Maxdole." She said, grabbing his hand and walking away.
And just then Eline was coming down the stairs.
"Alpha!" Eline gave a bow and he smiled widely.
"How have you been, Eline?"
"Oh, I've been well, unlike some certain people who clean and wash everything at home. I have been well Alpha Maxdole." Elina gave a well-feigned smile.
Her eyes darting to her sister's, Ismene smirked.
Although they could do whatever they wanted to her at home..with Maxdole she was safe.
"You should smile often, it'll help you," Ismene said as Elina left them.
"Smiling is a choice and I choose not to." His voice came out sharply.
"Well, it's not my problem whether you smile or not. I don't care, so please keep up the frown." It was at the tip of her tongue to tell him to go to hell, but just because he was her boyfriend didn't mean she would insult him.
After all, she loved him so much.
She could recall the day she met him, he was so handsome and so heavenly sexy.
Although she was an adopted child and good for nothing, as her parents and sister called her..she was beautiful.
No one could compare to her beauty and everyone who saw her gave her a smile.
There was no need to look in the mirror every day but when she looked... she'd be feeling more happier than she already was.
She was sure her beauty was one of the reasons Eline hated her.
Recalling the day Eline had tried to paint her face with pepper while lying that it was grounded herbal make-up..she felt her belly tighten.
••
"I promise, sister, these are the ingredients I got from Ma Gretchen, she said if I were to apply this to my face.. I'd be the most beautiful in the clan, but seeing as you have already reached the top, why not let us rub it on you." Eline had said, smiling cutely at her.
They were just twelve and yet Eline was evil.
With one look at the thing in her bowl, one would know that it was no makeover herbs but dry grinded pepper.
"You're lying Eline, this is not a makeover. These leaves and the one in the bowl are not the same." She mumbled, glaring at her sister.
"You know nothing, you poor little thing, and I am not your sister. You're just some poor weakling with a fine face. Come here, let me run this on your face or I'll tell mother and father to chase you out. Come here right now!" Eline yelled, as she stood up to run.
"Go away with your poison makeover, I don't want a makeover." Ismene had kept yelling over and over again.
The fight was a huge and silly one, but at the end, her sister ended up rubbing the pepper on her chin.
She could recall how it stunk and how she cried so badly that day only to be saved by Ma Gretchen.
"Ha, you poor thing. Tell me sweetie, tell me who bullied you and I shall go have a fight with them." They woman said, with a sigh.
"It is my sister Eline, she hates me so much and she keeps wanting to rub pepper on my face but instead rubbed it on my chin." Ismene kept crying like a child.
"Is that why you're crying? I thought you said you were friends with Superman and superman would come save you anytime you called his name?"
There was no sure things as superman. The cartoons they watched at a tender age had messed up their brain pretty well and they older woman was trying to take advantage of that to make the little girl to stop crying.
"But you said it the last time, that there's no such thing as superman."
"I did to scare you sweetie, many people have their superman, someone who comes to them when their in trouble...maybe one day, you'll find yours!"

Ismene snapped out of her many thoughts.
Damn! That was a long time memory.
Turning to the man that looked like he really needed some rest, she smiled.
"Besides? Where are we going?" She asked.
"My castle. My head needs some rest and I think you can give that to it." He said and she smiled.
One thing was sure.
The day's activity her mother had drawled out was meant to stress her life but with Maxdole...she was going to get a good relief!
