Odessa's POV
Just about all of my friends had shifted by now, including my best friend, Kayley Silverlight. I was so excited for my sweet sixteen birthday. It was the day I would get my other best friend back. Despite your first shift to be your most painful. I couldn't wait to have my connection with Maya back and to shift for the first time with her. I had craved it back when I was eight and she had gently appeared in my mind and introduced herself to me. Telling me that I was special, that not everyone one would able to do the things that I would.
My Mom and Dad had everything planned for my awakening and my sweet sixteen birthday party. My sweet sixteen cake was a massive four tier cake, with the top and bottom being lemon and the middle two layers being white and red velvet. My birthday party was to be earlier in the day.
With my awakening, happening tonight under the Crescent Moon, near Seers Lake. I spend most of the morning chatting with my friends. Most of them were excited to turn eighteen as that was the milestone before we were considered adults of the pack. A few of the girls were speculating wether they would be mated to this guy or another from our own school. I wasn't really worried about guys, there had never been any one I was attracted to.
Kayley, was always teasing me telling me that the Moon Goddess was making me hold out for my mate. There was only one guy who ever looked at me and that was Owen Clark, he and his remaining Alpha family joined our pack a few months ago after seeking sanctuary. Their entire pack had been murdered. Owen, his mother Heather and his baby brother Oliver were the only ones able to escape. Alpha Ripley and Holden had found Owen's father Duke two feet inside our border. Badly wounded and unconscious. He was still at the pack hospital in a coma. I prayed for Owen's sake that his dad would wake up soon.

Odessa's POV
I did the cake and presents part of my birthday. But the closer it got to night fall I feel myself getting more and more restless. So much so I found myself pacing in my room. I felt like my skin was to tight. The skirt of my sheer red and gold dress swaying with each movement. My blonde hair hung loose down my back, with some of it hanging over my right shoulder.
There was a slight knock at my door. I knew right away it was Kayley, she smelled of lilies and strawberries.
"Odessa, I know you're in there. I'm coming in." She warned as she started to open the door.
"Your Mom wanted me to bring you the rest of your attire for tonight. She also wanted to know if you've decided on a tatt...oo." I heard her words trail off as she looked at me.
"Oh my god! What's wrong you look like your wound up, tighter then a spring." Kayley asked coming in to the room more.
"Nothing, I'm just nervous I think. What if I don't shift they'll treat me like a Omega or worst." I confessed to my best friend.
"Well, if they do I'll beat them within an inch of their lives." Kayley said as she slipped a gold crescent moon arm cuff on my left bicep.
"Don't forget this." Kayley said as she held up a gold necklace with a large Moonstone pendant.
I smiled when I saw it had belonged to my father's mother, my Grams Pearl and her mother's before her. All the way to my great, great, great grandmother.
I remember admiring it as a child. She passed the year before the rouges attacked. She had told me that I had great power with in me and that I was destined to surpass everyone in my family. I still had no idea what she meant.
Letting out a breath I didn't realize that I was holding. Brushing my fingers over the stone as Kayley fastened the clasp.
I then smiled at my best friend.
"Yes, I know what tattoo I want." I pulled out a sketch I did in blue and purple ink, of a Celtic knot within a crescent moon.
"What is it with you and the crescent moon?" Kayley questioned.
"I don't know I've always felt soothed whenever I look at it." I confessed.
Kayley raised an eyebrow before smirking at me.
"I know what else soothes you. My brother Holden, you look at him like he's your own personal eye candy." She said rolling her eyes.
"I do not!" I practically yelled at her and grabbed her and pulled her out the door.
"Let's go, I still have to have my torcher session with my tattoo artist."
Once I finished my tattoo session, Kayley nearly knocked me to the ground begging to see it.
Kayley had shown me hers. Which was a triskele covered in ivy vines. So lifting the hymn of my dress I showed her the purplish-blue crescent moon that was made out of Celtic Knots.
I did everything that I was supposed to do. I was starting to get restless again and started pacing as the crescent moon rose above the trees and over the lake.
Even though I felt uncomfortable in my skin right now, nothing happened there was no shimmering or shifting of my skin.
I could feel everyone's eyes on me. So I took off at a run. I heard the voices of Kayley and Ethan call after me, followed by my parents voices. But I didn't heed their cries, I just kept running. After awhile I realized I didn't want anyone finding me. I closed my eyes and focused on my scent and imagining it vanishing.
When I finally stopped running I found myself half way up a mountain side. With my lungs burning and sides aching. I knew I had to go back soon and when I did, my life would be over.

"Odessa, wait it's going to be fine." Her best friend Kayley Silverlight called out.
"Dessa, wait we're here for you and we'll help you get through this." Odessa's brother Ethan called out to her. But she didn't stop she just kept running.
She didn't even respond when her parents called out to her.
"Odessa, sweet heart please come back." Her mother, Edith NorthStar pleaded.
"Odessa, wait!" Cliff NorthStar called out to his eldest daughter.
But still Odessa didn't stop. Her father and mother shifted into their wolves a big gray and white wolf and a slightly smaller chestnut wolf.
Ethan shifted into his light grey wolf, while Kayley shifted into a black wolf with brown spots. Alpha Ripley shifted into a massive black wolf with light brown eyes. Holden's wolf was black as well, the only difference was the grey-brown patch on his chest and the deep golden color of his eyes. They took off after Odessa as well, as did several other pack members.
Taking in Odessa's cherry blossom and honey scent. They tried to keep up with her, but she was moving so fast that a few of the others had to stop and rest.
"Dad, Odessa didn't shift how is it possible for her to move this fast?" Ethan asked their father through the pack mind link.
"I'm not sure, son. I wish I knew for sure." Beta Cliff replied to his son.
Kayley took the the chance to talk to her father as well.
"Dad, Alpha what are you going to do went we catch her?"
"We will take her home and let her wept for her wolf if she must. We will treat her like any other pack member." Alpha Ripley said responding to his daughter's question.
Ethan and his parents soon ended up stopping as well as Kayley. While Holden and Alpha Ripley kept moving. Until Holden came to a stop first making his father stop beside him.
"Holden, what is it? What's the matter?" His Alpha father questioned him.
"I lost her scent I can't find it anywhere. It's like it was never here." Holden said in answer to his father's question. Shifting back into his human form a second before his father did.
"What do you think is going on with Odessa dad?" Holden asked his father.
"Honestly, son though I'm not a hundred percent positive. I think that Odessa has a dominant wolf now. After surfacing when Odessa was so young and getting hurt caused it to retreat deeper into Odessa's mind. The mere fact that she was able to out run us in her human form. Tells me that she is having an Internal struggle with her wolf. We will most definitely be very gentle with her." Alpha Ripley said to his son before speaking again.
"With no scent to follow we best head back." Alpha Ripley replied back to Holden.
"We're just going to leave her out here?"
Holden questioned his father.
"We'll go back to the pack house and send out our most experienced trackers. But for now we'll have to wait and hope she'll be safe. As long as she stays within the Moonstone territory, Odessa will be ok. She learned years ago where our lines are you learned the same thing." Placing a firm hand on his son's shoulder. He urged him to come with him.
"Come on now, I'm going to need your help calming down her family.
