CHAPTER 8
VALERIA
I
'd been roaming through the mansion, my footsteps echoing in the marble-floored corridors wandering for over an hour, but there were still lots of areas I hadn't yet seen.
Kai went to his office and I had nothing to do except explore this enormous and magnificent mansion. I nearly ran into Eli as I turned the corner; he was coming out of a doorway, his face thoughtful. His eyes twinkled with mischief and he smiled when he saw me.
Eli smiled, "Exploring the mansion, I see?"
I nodded. "Yes, it's so big, I feel like I've barely scratched the surface."
"I am headed to a bar, would like to join?" Eli offered.
I shook my head, "I am not allowed to leave the mansion."
Eli laughed. "I'm staying right here. This is the way to the bar," he gestured to the east.
I frowned. "Of course, how could I forget Kai had a small bar in his office full of whiskey bottles."
I went to the bar with Eli and we sat down. He filled our drinks before I asked, "Are you also obsessed with whiskey like Kai?"
Eli shook his head, "In my case it's scotch."
I picked up my glass. “Shouldn’t you be with your wolf girl?”
Eli gulped the whole glass at once. “Her name is Anna.”
I sipped at mine. “Anna, nice name.”
Eli poured himself another glass. “Her brother Alex is with her. We are taking turns watching her and the babies.”
I looked at him, “Do you know there is a law in this world to not reveal yourself to humans?”
Eli gulped down another glass of scotch like it was orange juice. “When we fell into this world we didn’t know anything about it. We jumped as werewolves and when we landed here we were in our human form. We were shocked because there was no sign of anyone like us. But over time, we got to know about humans, shapeshifters, vampires, and warlocks. You know there are more species on Earth than Eldaria but we never encountered any dragons here on Earth.”
I was intrigued by the way he told his side of the story. Although Kai told me a lot of things about their jumping to this world, the incident, and Eldaria I was interested to know more about Eli and Anna.
“Can I ask you something?”
Eli nodded, “Sure.”
I cleared my throat. “What was Anna’s reaction when you told her your true identity?”
Eli put his glass back on the counter. “She laughed and didn’t believe me.”
“So how did you make her believe? Did you show her your enormous wolf size?”
Eli shook his head. "She had to believe me since, aside from shape-shifting, we Eldarians have several additional powers. And for your information, I showed her my wolf after I marked her as mine,” he winked.
I laughed, “You wanted to make sure she wouldn’t leave you after seeing your wolf first.”
Eli laughed. “No, I had no idea she would change with my mark.”
“Am I allowed to see your babies and meet Anna?”
“Sure. come with me.”
Eli led me to a different area of the mansion and we entered yet another massive building before heading down to the basement. When I saw the height and width, I was astounded.
A girl that had to be Anna was lying in bed holding a baby. Alex, I knew already because I had seen him driving Kai to the office. Alex was standing next to Anna holding another baby. Anna smiled when our eyes met and I walked up to her. “Hello, I am Valeria.”
Anna and I shook hands. “Eli told me about you. Come, sit.”
I smiled as I glanced over the two babies. I adore newborns, but I lack the bravery to hold them because they are so small and have no bones to support them. I asked Anna. “How are you and the babies?”
Anna smiled and looked at her baby. “We all are doing fine.”
“Have you guys named them?”
Anna shook her head and looked at Eli. “Have you thought of any names?”
Eli nodded, “I was thinking of naming them after your brother and mine Alexis and Kairos.”
Anna smiled and looked at Alex and a whisper escaped his lips. “What?”
Alex's eyes got moist but he refused to let the tears show. “You have no idea how honored and happy I would feel and I am sure Kai would feel the same.”
“I know what Kai would feel but what he is going to say I am going to tell you all in advance.”
We all looked at him. “Kai is going to say that now Uncle Kai and Kairos will make your life hell.”
We all laughed. I turned to Anna. “Is your wolf enormous also?”
Anna shook her head. “No, my wolf is bigger than the regular wolf of Earth but not as big as their wolves.”
I asked, “How did you feel when you changed from a normal human to a shapeshifter?”
Before Anna responded Eli asked, “Why are you so curious about all this?”
I looked at him and sighed. “Because I am thinking maybe I might feel some changes in me when I get the mark.”
Anna was shocked and asked, “What? Kai still hasn’t marked you?”
I shook my head. “That’s why I am asking tons of questions because I want to know the reason he hasn’t done this. I looked at Eli, “Did he like someone in Eldaria?”
Eli’s eyes got widened. “What? How could you even think that? You are his eternal soulmate; how could he have any bond with anyone else?”
“I am not asking about the fated mate bond. I asked if he liked someone else or not with her in this world or your Eldaria?”
Eli exhaled, “It’s nothing like that Valeria.”
Anna asked Alex to take the baby back from her and then she turned to me. “Listen, Valeria, I have known Kai for thirty years, and trust me the way Eli told me he felt for you I never saw him feel that way for any other girl.”
I looked at Eli, “He talked about me with you?”
Eli raised his hands in the air. “Yeah, a lot of times and I have seen how miserable he has been when he was trying to stay away from you. So please take those doubts out of your mind. Kai has no interest in someone else.”
