Damn Tests
Tired of crying, she had to prove that Lexi and Rick had been together. That night, after calming down and convincing herself that she couldn't kill her sister—not for infidelity with her husband, but for letting him do that to her without defending her—wasn't she supposed to now want to marry Lexi and have beautiful, blue-eyed children with her? Why wasn't she pleased to reach an agreement and have them both annul that prenuptial agreement? But if she thought about it... Candy didn't want that either. What she wanted was to destroy Rick Johnson, not even for his money; she just wanted to see him crushed, like Lexi, for being a treacherous b***h.
She was capable of cutting off Rick's balls if she saw them again. Coming up with a quick plan before losing her mind and wanting to get ahead of Rick, because she knew that he would resort to looking for proof that she was with Alaric Jackson, since it couldn't just be through word of mouth, Candy decided that she had to go to her friend's house—her sister.
She would look there for the perfect proof that could be in her passport; with that, it would be very confirmed that they traveled together, and in turn, that she was there that same day of their honeymoon. She called her best friend, who was also her secretary at the most important law firm in all of Southern California, where Candy Weber was more than a star, being ashamed of herself for the trap she fell into with the gorgeous Rick Johnson, thus creating that damn agreement.
She worked for “Group Smith,” one of the youngest lawyers who had achieved a good record in that law firm. She was highly esteemed for her excellent career, short but important.
"Samara, are you very busy?"
"Candy? But why are you calling me? Don't tell me Albert has been bothering you even on your honeymoon. Because right now, I'm calling you to insult you."
"And how do you plan to insult the boss?" she laughed to herself, needing her friend's witticisms. "He hasn't called me; he respected the time I took to organize the wedding, the entire celebration, and the week and a half for the honeymoon. It's not about Albert. I want you to call that friend of yours, the one who made me get on the flight that day."
"Asher?"
"No, the other one. Alaric Jackson."
"I have no idea who this is. He's Asher's friend, not mine. But I'll call Asher, so he can tell you. What do you need me to tell him?"
"It will sound strange, but... tell him not to tell Rick anything about what happened between us if he contacts him. Avoid him at all costs."
"Candy, what's wrong?" Samara was a little alarmed.
"I already told you it was going to sound strange, and now I don't have time to explain. I'm not on the honeymoon; I found Rick with Lexi. I'm back."
"Which…Lexi?"
"So far, I only know one person with that stupid name, and so do you. My sister and Rick had been sleeping together for months. I found them when I arrived at the hotel. One thing led to another, and the alcohol did its thing, leading me into your friend's friend's bed. Demons! I don't know what a mess this is. Anyway, we have both been unfaithful and now it is a race against time to prove the other's infidelity. Talk to your friend, so he doesn't talk to Rick no matter what, but do it right away."
"Are you okay?" It must have been very hard for Candy to find her new husband in bed with her sister.
"No, I'm not." She began to cry. "I told everything that happened, but my parents didn't believe me. I hope to wake up from this nightmare and continue seeing Rick the way I did before, but inside me, only a terrible hatred for him is growing. I swear I feel capable of killing both of them. Why did they do this to me? Why did my sister let me marry him knowing that she was getting into his bed? Why such humiliation for me? She didn't even let me have it on my honeymoon; I don't know how the hell she or he changed the plane tickets, but I feel like it was a whole plan from the beginning. They took too much risk, they trusted that I wouldn't arrive. Samara, I still don't believe all this."
"Sorry, we didn't see that coming. But Lexi? And what is it about having to prove each other's infidelity? Just divorce that asshole as soon as possible, Can."
"I was the i***t, Samara. We made a prenuptial agreement where infidelity took away half of what you owned."
"Then let's leave him without a damn penny in his pocket! Let that dog suffer!"
"I just don't have the evidence to prove that he was with Lexi. But I will get them. Call your friend, then the hotel; find a way to get Lexi's name. Maybe on the reservation or something. Otherwise, I will have to travel there again to try to get the security cameras from those days."
"Then Rick can catch you the same way. Think about it. If you were at the same hotel, you arrived on the same flight, did you also arrive at the same time? Rick could have those security cameras and prove that you were indeed unfaithful. His story may apply to you.”
"Don't mess with me!" The details were true. In those recordings where she could identify Lexi and Rick, she would also appear, arriving with Alaric Jackson, at the same time. With the airplane seats next to each other. You could say that she missed the previous flight on purpose, to arrive with him. And then, in those same recordings, there was her other arrival with Alaric, staying in her room until almost noon. What she could work in her favor, she also played against her. "I just hope Rick doesn't have those recordings."
"Candy, you're in trouble."
"I have to hang up now. Call your friend. Although right now the recordings are more important. I'll try to get Lexi's passport, but I don't know if I should risk getting the recordings anymore, even if Rick has them, it would be better if I had them too."
"I do not know what to tell you. Instead of going with your sister, you should get a flight and go get those recordings. I'll take care of Asher's friend."
"Thank you, Samara."
"Good luck."
"At this point, that no longer works for me." A race against time, where Candy still had the disadvantage. Those recordings could also condemn her. She took her cell phone and booked a plane ticket for three hours, the only one where there was room for something so fast. She only took her bag with her documentation, she intended to return once she got the recordings. She would not stay a single second that was not necessary in that place where she discovered the big lie of their relationship. She had to take a taxi, because that afternoon, before Rick left, she crashed her car several times, rendering it useless. On the way to the airport, she received a message from Mr. Unmentionable. Rick.
She opened the message, unleashing one of her fears.
It was a photo of her and Alaric at the bar, very cozy. She didn't even remember that, but she could distinguish both figures perfectly. Under the photo, he had written something.
"Do you want to see what else I have or will you start looking at your account to see how much my half is? I got you, Candy, Candy. Sweet candy."
More and more Candy knew that her fight against Rick was lost. He was taking more steps ahead of her. Another message arrived, it was a video. Alaric Jackson and her again, this time entering her room.
Rick had all the evidence. He just needed to act.
