Chapter6

Jake's eyes darted around the whole building. He watched in awe and wondered if he actually belonged to this type of family. A young lady walked out of the building, her eyes looking at Jake with disdain. “Do you think he is the real deal? I mean, look at him. He looks more like a beggar to me.” Stella said with sarcasm. Jake said nothing, his mind a whirlwind of what the man who had picked him up earlier had told him. “Well, we are going to know right after we take a few drops.” Stella said again, eyeing him. “Few drops? Of what?” He said almost immediately. The man walked out again with a man in a white uniform. “Are you sure he is the real deal?” He looked at the man. “Just take the damn blood samples, Josh. I don't have the time for any of this.” He snapped at him. “Fine.” Josh said immediately, walking towards Jake with a syringe. “This is going to sting a little.” Josh said, looking at Jake as he rolled up his clothes. “Why do you even need my blood samples when you had me picked up?” Jake winced again. “He is hurt. We need to check him out.” Josh looked at the man who had brought Jake in earlier. “We can do that right after you confirm what I need. Mr. Reynolds would be back in town, and he is going to want to know if I had the package. Do you think he is going to be pleased to hear I picked up a strange kid out of nowhere?” Jake's hand balled into a fist. A part of him wished that he was the lost son of the house he was in, then the thought of being thrown out, cast aside once again. It was the only way he could get back at Maxwell and Bella. His thoughts went back to what the school head had told him. He needed to get his parents down to the school, but he was just an orphan. He had no one. But then his phone rang. “Hello, just one sec,“ Jake said, slowly getting to his feet. “Jake, you need to come down right now. Someone is here on your behalf begging Maxwell to drop the charges against you.” Jake furrowed his eyebrows. He had no one, so who could have possibly come down to the school on his behalf? “I have to go. This is very urgent.” Jake looked at the man in front. “I told you already. He is not what you want him to be. You are wrong.” Stella said, stamping her foot in the well-furnished room in front of Jake. Jake wanted to tell him he was going to be back, but then, he wasn't sure of anything. He was in a rage and wanted to see who had come to school to plead on his behalf. “I will be on my way now, Sarah.” Jake said immediately, hanging up the call. “Can you get me back to school?” Jake looked at the man who had his eyes narrowed at him. “You have his spirit child, but let's see if you are the real deal.” He grabbed the car keys while Stella had her hand folded in the middle of the room, staring at them. “Don't say I didn't warn you.” She said with a scoff and jammed the door. As they drove, Jake couldn't stop thinking about who had come for him. He had not told anyone and wasn't sure Mrs. Penelope would lift a muscle for him. “Can you drop me off here?” Jake looks at the man who stopped the car and looked at him. “Why?” The man stared at him. “You could use the help of a big figure like me. Isn't that what you need? Judging from your state, it looks like you are a mess.” “I can't handle myself. Just back off. I will come find you.” Jake replied. “Well, here is my address. Come find me when you are ready. I will be waiting.” The man dug his hand into his pocket and brought out a card, which he gave to him. Jake snatched the card and rushed out of the car, racing towards the school. Many of the students were now gathered to see what was going on once more. “You know, if you kneel before me, I might consider letting all of this slide.” Maxwell said with a wide grin, enjoying the bully. “I will do anything. Just let Jake go; he has been through enough, and I don't think this would make his life any better. Mrs. Penelope said with teary eyes. She had raised Jake up since he was a kid. “Don't do it!” Jake shouted as he raced towards her. Everyone tilted their head to see him walking towards the scene. “Well, well, well. I thought you would be in the hospital judging from the last encounter. But here you are, “Maxwell said with a smug grin. “Here I am. And what are you doing, Mrs. Penelope?” “Stay out of this, Jake. Let me just make this right.” Mrs. Penelope said again. Mr. Thomas saw the crowd and walked towards them to see what was happening. He was surprised to see Mrs. Penelope on her knees with Jake fuming with anger. “Please, sir, I can't afford another round of tuition fees. If Jake misses this exam, then he would have to retake the class.” She pleaded. Jake was dumbstruck. He had never thought Mrs. Penelope had been helping with the tuition fee. He looked at the man who turned his gaze away from the woman. The money, where has it all been going to? “I am sorry, Mrs. Penelope, but Jake should have thought well before he attacked the most prominent student in our school. I don't think kneeling will cut it this time.” Mr. Thomas said, walking away. Jaw gritted his teeth in anger as he looked at Bella and Maxwell. “This has gone far enough. Do you think I am powerless? You have mocked me enough. I think it is high time I show you that you are messing with the wrong person.” Jake shouted at them, his hand clenching the card he was given by the man that drove him down to school.
