Prologue Part 2: The Future
2017
Teddy Lupin was dashing around in his flat. His turquoise hair was disheveled and his clothes were creased. He had slept in that morning and he didn't want to be late in his Auror training and have to explain to Harry why.
He had been up late last night, thinking about Victoire. He had finally gotten together his childhood best friend just as she was about to go to Hogwarts for the last time, just a few days previously.
But there was no way he was telling Harry that.
He loved his godfather a lot, but he knew him too well to know that he'll never hear the end of it if he told him…
He had grabbed his jacked from his room, and was about to dash into the hall to the front door when he froze in his tracks.
A ball of light was floating before him in the hall. It went up to him and the room was filled with light.
Teddy vanished with the light.
Victoire Weasley was walking to the Great Hall for breakfast with her younger sister Dominique.
She was gushing still about Teddy.
Dominique couldn't help but smile at her, even if this was already the thousandth time she had heard about Teddy's 'beautiful eyes', or Teddy's 'delicious scent' (she had to admitted she was little creeped out there), or Teddy's 'heart-stopping smile'.
She understood how Victoire felt.
Victoire had thought that her feelings for Teddy would never be reciprocated and that it will only ruin their friendship. She had resolved to act normal, but she found it difficult to do so, so she just avoided Teddy altogether. This was easy when they were at Hogwarts, and she could just not reply to the tons of owls Teddy was sending her, asking what was wrong. However, that previous summer vacation, she had to come home and avoiding Teddy there was harder and more noticeable. Even the adults noticed. That's why when they were about to board the school train, and Teddy still kept asking her what was wrong, Victoire finally cracked and shouted "I'm in love with you!". Of course her family watching them had frozen then, and Victoire had looked mortified. She had turned to run away, tears in her eyes. But Teddy had snapped out of shock. He had grabbed her arm and spun her to face him. He had then pulled her to him and kissed her. Everyone cheered and wolf-whistled at that (except Bill of course, who was grimacing, hehe).
However, Dominique was distracted from her sister's rambling by the sudden appearance of a glowing ball of light towards them.
Victoire had not yet noticed its appearance, but she did notice that her sister was no longer paying any attention to her.
"Dom, are you even listening? If you are getting tired of listening to me, just say so, I'll stop!" Victoire had realized she must be boring her sister already. Dominique was, after all, the more boyish one between them, and she occasionally loved playing pranks with their brother, Louis, and their cousins, Fred and James. Maybe it was because Dominique had the Weasley red hair, while she got their mother's blonde hair, but Dominique was more active and, if she may say so, temperamental.
Dominique still took no notice of her. She had stopped walking and was staring at the ball of light.
"Dom?" said Victoire again, turning to her, now slightly annoyed. "Dom? Dom! Dominique!" She knew she hated being called by her full name, much to their mother's displeasure, of course. It did the trick however and she snapped out of it.
"Look, Victoire!" Dominique shouted, grabbing her sister and turning to face the light.
Victoire's eyes widened. "What on earth is that?"
Before Dominique could respond however, the ball of light went up to them, expanded, consumed them in light, and they vanished with it.
Molly and Lucy Weasley were arguing again.
For sisters, they couldn't be more different. Lucy was bubbly and carefree like their mother Audrey. Molly, however, had seem to have gotten their father's, in her sister Lucy's words, 'uptightness'.
Molly was badgering Lucy again to work with her studies and strive to get higher grades, as Molly, for her part, believed that it was her duty as the older sister to make sure Lucy did well in her studies. Lucy had gotten enough and they were bantering in Lucy's dorm room, which empty now besides from them.
A ball of light suddenly appeared. It was on top of Lucy's bed, near them.
"What on earth is that?" Lucy cried, first to notice it.
"What on earth is what-?" Molly turned around, annoyed. She looked at it in shock, and then rounded on her sister. "What are you playing at this time, Lucy?" she said, mad.
"What do you mean 'what am I playing at'?" shouted Lucy, momentarily distracted from the mysterious ball of light, as her anger towards her sister flared up again. "How do you know I've got something to do with it?"
"Well it is on your bed!"
"That's not enough proof for you to-!"
But the ball of light went up them then and they vanished.
Fred Weasley and James Potter were in a hidden passageway. They were waiting for their cousin, Louis Weasley, who had been keeping a look out. They had just played a prank on McGonagall.
At that moment, Louis dashed in with them. "She's coming! She's gonna be walking in this corridor soon!"
As one, the three of them peered behind the tapestry that was concealing the passageway. Sure enough, there was McGonagall, walking past them and hissing furiously. Her robes were now bright pink, frilly and with ludicrous large pink flowers.
The three of them ducked behind the tapestry again, looked at each other, and roared with laughter. They laughed so loudly however, that McGonagall, who had not gone far yet, heard them.
They didn't even notice a ball of light appear as they clutched their stomachs in laughter. It soared to them and they disappeared.
As they did so, the tapestry swung sideward, revealing McGonagall.
"Aha! I've found you three-!" McGonagall stopped in confusion. The passageway was empty. But she could have sworn she heard the laughter from here…?
Roxanne Weasley was in the Quidditch pitch. It was deserted this early in the morning, as there were no team practices yet being so early in the year. She was here to get some practice because she wanted to get into their House team that year.
To be a brilliant Chaser just like her mom was is her dream. George was a bit disappointed. He had rather hoped that his daughter would rather play Beater, just like her old man (not that he was old, or anything…). Of course his son, Fred, was a Beater like him. But he also very much wanted that his baby girl to be one as well. They'd have been brilliant together, George often thought. Angelina, on the other hand, was very thrilled with Roxanne's position choice, of course. And she had been constantly reminding her husband about that fact too… George may be her husband now, but that doesn't mean she can't annoy the heck out of him now, does it?
Roxanne was up in the air riding her Comet Three Fifty, when she caught sight of a ball of light. She braked and turned to it. She was just in time to see it soar to her.
Albus Potter was standing by the entrance of the Ravenclaw common room. It was his turn to wait for them today, and he had to get up early because he still wasn't familiar with the castle and the Ravenclaw common room was far from his common room in the dungeons. (A/N: not sure if they really are far from each other, but I assume there'd have to be some good distance between them. Ravenclaw is in a tower after all, and Slytherin is down in the dungeons…)
The door finally opened and out walked his cousin Rose Weasley, and their new best friend, Scorpius Malfoy.
"Took you two long enough!" Albus grumbled. "If I knew you were gonna be late, I'd have come a bit later!"
"We're not late! You just got here earlier than the past few days! I guess you've gotten lost less than last time, huh Albus?" Rose retorted.
Albus flushed scarlet.
"Knew it!" said Rose.
Scorpius snickered at him.
"Shut it, Scor!" said Albus, flushing even more. "You're not suppose to side with her!"
"Well, she's right," said Scorpius, shrugging. "Besides, Housemates have to stick together, eh Rose?" He laughed.
"Yeah," said Rose, playing along.
"Rosie! My own cousin, turning on me!"
"I didn't even want to be your cousin," Rose snickered. Scorpius was trying to muffle his laughter.
"Fine, be that way, you two!" Albus said, turning around and marching off to the Great Hall. He paused at the end of the corridor. They were still laughing by their common room door. "Don't blame me if you two miss breakfast"
That had them walking quickly towards him.
"They value breakfast over me…" Albus mumbled, shaking his head, as he watched the two join him.
"Oh, stop your whining, Albus Severus. At least we give you some value!" Albus scowled Rose.
"Guys, what's that?" said Scorpius.
Albus and Rose turned around and saw a glowing ball of light before them.
"Woah!" said Rose, taking a step back. Albus, seemingly inheriting his father's knack for getting into dangerous situations, moved towards it however.
"Albus Severus Potter! Don't go you dare go near it!"
But before Albus could react to Rose's cry, they were engulfed in light, tugged, and disappeared.
Lily Potter was standing in garden of the Burrow. She was still upset about being left alone, now that both her brothers were now in Hogwarts. Harry and Ginny had thought it would be nice for her to spend a few days with Grandpa Arthur and Grandma Molly, to cheer her up.
"Lily! Lily!"
Lily turned to see her only other remaining cousin not in Hogwarts yet, Hugo Weasley, running towards her.
"Hugo!" she said in surprise. "What are you doing here?"
"Mom and Dad dropped me off. They're going to some convention at the Ministry and won't be back 'til past midnight. They didn't want me alone in the house, so I'm here until tomorrow morning when Dad picks me up," Hugo explained.
"Great! I'll have someone with me here to play with!"
"Yeah, it's been kinda boring at the house without Rosie-"
Hugo's words were cut by an appearance of a glowing ball of light.
"What's that?" Lily cried.
"I dunno," said Hugo, looking at it nervously. "Maybe we should go call Grandpa and Grandma…" He turned to looked anxiously back at the house.
"No, don't! They won't let us go near it! I'm bored, and I wanna do somethin' fun!"
"Well, they might have a good reason to keep us away from it! It might be dangerous, Lils!"
"It's a ball of light, Hugo! How can it be danger-"
They were suddenly surrounded by light and soon disappeared.
