Part 1:The Awakening of Jordan Gray
Jordan bounded down the stairs two at a time, his backpack bouncing against his shoulders. Breakfast smelled amazing - Mom must have made pancakes. But as his foot hit the fourth step from the bottom, something went terribly wrong.
His ankle twisted. His balance failed. He braced for impact... only to feel his stomach lurch as the world slowed around him.
For three impossible seconds, Jordan floated mid-air, his body parallel to the ground like a superhero in a movie. Then, gently as a feather, he drifted down until his toes touched the hardwood floor.
"What the...?" Jordan whispered, patting himself down. No bruises. No pain. Just a strange tingling in his fingertips. He glanced up the staircase - completely normal. He looked at his hands - completely normal. Except... were they glowing slightly?
Shaking his head, Jordan continued to the dining room. As he passed the hallway mirror, his reflection caught his eye. He froze. His mirror image blinked... a full second after he did. And in its pupils, Jordan saw twin pinpricks of silver light that swirled like liquid mercury before vanishing.
"Okay, that definitely wasn't normal," Jordan muttered, rubbing his eyes.
At the breakfast table, he tried to focus on his pancakes, but his mind raced with possibilities. Was he dreaming? Had he hit his head without realizing it?
Then his fork lifted from the table of its own accord, hovering six inches above his plate before clattering down.
Jordan's breath caught. This was real. Something impossible was happening to him. And if breakfast was this strange, he could only imagine what the school day might bring.
As he grabbed his backpack, Jordan realized with equal parts terror and excitement: his ordinary life was over. The real question was - what came next?
