Chapter 1
Odette's POV
“Odette.”
“Odette…”
“Run Odette…”
I couldn't hear a thing but the crackling of fire in my head as I ran barefoot, enduring the stabbing pain in my legs as I just did the one thing I was ordered to do and that was run.
“Go away, far away…”
“Where's the girl? Where is she?” I could hear distant threatening voices and I wanted to run faster but this was as fast as my tiny feet could take me. “If you find her, get rid of her immediately. We're asked to get rid of the entire Stones.”
Tiny feet? Of course, I was just a five year old running from danger. “There she is, get her. Get rid of her…”
“Mommy…!!!”
“...help.” I screamed out, huffing and panting as I looked down at my hands. I was still in bed, covered in sweat with my alarm ringing next to me. “I'm awake… I'm awake.” I whispered, drawing my knees to my chest, trying to regulate my breathing.
It was that dream again.
Dipping my face in the water to get myself awake, I sighed as I looked at myself in the mirror. I haven't been able to sleep well for weeks now since the dream has been coming and I've been unable to sleep well. Even sleeping pills now didn't seem to be working anymore.
“God… what is wrong with me?” I groaned, looking at my reflection in the mirror.
“Sorry for being late.” I let out a sigh as I pushed the doors into the store open. “I couldn't hear the alarm sound.” I apologized to my coworker who was standing behind the counter.
“It's so unlike you to be late Odette. Are you sure working overtime and a lot of jobs isn't affecting you?” He asked with his arms folded across his chest. “You have to take it easy girl. And look, you looked like you haven't had enough sleep I'm a while.”
How could I take it easy? I lost everything and as if growing up with the worst person to ever exist as my uncle wasn't enough, I have to pay up all the debts he piled up from my late parents.
“I’m really fine. Thank you for worrying about me, Jude.” I smiled at him, going back in to dress up for my shift.
After the whole day, I dragged my feet as I walked towards my apartment. The ding of my phone made me look down with a dragged sigh. “[Web Loan] Odette Stone, this is to remind you of the month's payment due in two days. Failure to meet up with the deadline will surely attract penalties.”
When will this end? Ever since highschool, I've been paying debts that keep piling up from students loan and all. Do I have to live my entire life in debts? It's as if I was pouring water into a dried up well with a spoon. It was as if I was just working for nothing at this point.
The tunnel looks extremely dark with not even a spec of light in sight. I'm even tired of expecting a flicker of light to appear at all. I want a damn way out of this dark and empty life.
“Do you not know anyone else to carry on the debts if it's getting too much?” their voices rang in my head, repeating the same words I've heard.
“You're an omega, you can easily get a much higher paying job.” “Omegas have it easy, you can make the amount you want away in a month making in a few hours if you work in an alpha's club.”
Even if I did all they said, I won't be able to to live with myself. And I'd rather stay in debts and remain clean to myself than give myself to a bunch of alpha to gang up on me.
“...yes, hello.”
“I saw your message, the debt is due in two days. I'll make sure I pay up before then, just give me time to…”
“That's not the issue right now, Miss Odette.” The feminine voice on the other side of the phone said to me and I could hear the hint of shock in her voice but I didn't pay much attention to it.
“W-what do you mean by that isn't the issue?” I asked.
“What relationship do you have with Black Corporation?”
“Black? I have none I can remember. Why do you ask?” I asked, wondering why she would bring up a Black now of all times. I didn't have any association with anyone named Black or the Black family of the country.
“They called us…” She paused for a few seconds. “It has arrived earlier today but the authenticity was just confirmed this evening. This transfer contract was signed by the Chairman of Black Corporation himself. They said, they will be taking over all your debts.”
“Excuse me?” I asked in shock, the phone I was holding almost slipped out of my grip. I could see my apartment in a distance but I didn't bother moving from the spot I was standing because I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Was this some kind of sick joke, because I wasn't in the mood to be joked with right now. “Please, are you sure about this? This isn't some joke because I don't think it's funny at all.” I confirmed with her again and there was no mistake.
“From the looks of it, you seem to be surprised too, Miss Odette but that's the truth. The receipts will be forwarded to you very soon.” The lady said, “Also, I might not be in the place to tell you this, but be carefully of the Blacks if you have no association with them before now.” She immediately hung up before I could ask any further questions.
My eyes finally went ahead towards the stairs leading up to my apartment and I could see two men in black with sunshades standing by the stairs. Sunshades at this time of the day?
One of them suddenly looked in my direction, startling me. I wanted to turn and run but where would I go? “Excuse me, miss. You are Odette Stone I presume?”
“How may I help you?” I asked, ready to make a run for it at any time.
“Chairman is waiting for you, please.” He said, pointing up towards my apartment.
Hesitantly walking up to my apartment, I wondered who on earth they were. Strange things just started happening to me this evening and now some shady looking men are standing before my apartment. Were they trying to kidnap me now?
A creaking sound made me pause as I got up to my floor. There he was, a black haired man standing there, leaning against my door with his hands in his pockets.
He was dressed in black suit underneath with a gray coat draping over his shoulders. His black hair styled beautifully with a few strands trying to get in the frame of his face. He had a light scar from the right corner of his lips down to his chin which strangely suited him. Was it possible for someone to be this handsome at this time of the day?
The thing that made me even more curious was the stench of his pheromones mixed with a woody cologne and it almost choked me.
“So you're the Odette Stone. Nothing special about you to be sold at that amount of money.” He said, not even looking in my direction as he lit the cigarette he was holding in his hand.
“Excuse me?”
“You haven't heard?” He tossed a bunch of papers at me before walking past me. “Your uncle sold you to my company to pay all his debts including your late father's.”
“I’ve done my part of the deal, so, from today, you are branded my property.”
