I HAD NO IDEA HOW BAD it was until I got there.
Auntie Anna called me to say my grandmother was in the hospital, but not to worry: she’d had a fall, but broken no bones. According to the emergency room doctor, it was just a potassium deficiency. They'd keep her in overnight, put her on a drip, and she’d be good to go in the morning.
That was the story last night.
This morning, Auntie Anna called me again to say my grandmother wasn’t bouncing back as fast as they’d hoped. The hospital wanted to keep her in another day, at least.
Again, she told me not to worry.
I could hear in my aunt's voice that she wasn’t taking her own advice.
