Chapter 30: Keep the change

1085 Words
The quest they accepted is way too sudden even for a beginner mage such as Arion who can't even chant a single magic spell, at least they were packed with the necessities, items, and equipment needed for the mission nonetheless. On the spot, he was led by this strong emotion driving his will to discover more of the world of magic where he woke up. A strange vivid mystery and wonder occupy his wildest fantasies from the possibilities he can create, for he believes before he can create revolutionary inventions, an inventor must find the reason for one's own creation. The party consisting of Arion, Lilith, and Adriel were on their way towards the place where they can hunt the mythical beast that is said to have consumed hundreds of mages that tried bringing subjugating it. Logically thinking, a prodigy such as himself would figure out the quest they're going to undertake will just be a suicide mission. There are better things to do like accepting mid-range difficulty quests where he can gather materials and create a better armament other than his Mechanical Exoskeleton as a starter weapon. And he's thinking it isn't even a weapon since it acts defensive coiling all over his limbs, from his neck, torso, and even the soles of his feet. But Arion would never forget what Azrael or the Goddess said before he was reincarnated with the other chosen and the reason why they were in a magical world is that they were competing for a war. The question arises for him thinking what the war means even though Azrael sugarcoated the war as some sort of game, it must have a reason. It's been bugging his mind though he really can't argue with it since if he asked Marget, the alleged incarnation of the Goddess of Sun and Moon, he knew she won't tell a single soul. "Isn't there a better way to get there much quicker?" Arion complained, they've been walking for minutes and he's already tired. His body is physically built to be strong, yet he doesn't have the proper endurance considering he stays in his laboratory all day and night when he was still on earth. "I don't have an idea of why we are walking, but we can always ride a carriage," Adriel told pointing out the carriage as the coachman is beckoning them to get inside. "Why didn't you told me?!" Arion stomped and darted inside the carriage as soon as possible. "Well, I got too absorbed thinking about things that I forgot there are horse-drawn carriages." Lilith snorted a little bit and covered her reddened face. At least she could express a bit of herself than being a lady who had no life in her eyes, is what Arion thought to himself. "Either way, even if we are facing a mythical beast or average monster, we should think of our team composition." Arion was trying to speed-run the world where he reincarnated by applying the knowledge and wisdom he learned from his previous life. "Team composition?" Lilith's ears swiveled. She never heard the term Arion used before. "To put it simply, team composition is like the formation of our party. For example, my role is guarding the frontline as I am the only one who had defensive equipment. And Adriel could be the support since she's an alchemist, as for Lilith, you can be a spellcaster." Arion was throwing random ideas that came from a game. As he had seen from their navigation panel that indicates their characteristics, current rank, and status, Lilith is a fire mage that has average magic numerical values since he's level 23, which is pretty low when looking at Adriel's level 56 in the art of alchemy. "Oh, that is pretty much the standard thing one should understand before becoming a full-pledge mage, wizard, or witch. In the first place, before anyone could get accepted at a party, they should show what they are capable of and explain their role." Adriel told. It seems Arion was glad they already had the basic knowledge of the team composition taking into account that they are enduring in a fantasy world and survivability is a must. "Then since we know each other, I'll formulate thousands of possibilities based on your abilities and skills." Arion closed his eyes. Both Lilith and Adriel silenced themselves while he's critically thinking. He became one with the surrounding, hearing the voice of the wind, sensing the vibrations of the ground notwithstanding the bumpy road.  For them, they thought he's just meditating or doing some contemplation; little did they know within that mere minutes, based on the strength of the slimes and the ascending level of the monsters and beasts as well as their level up, he calculated at least millions of possibilities where their abilities could be used. Though he didn't care much since his ideas will dwindle down whenever he discovers something new. Scientifically speaking, Arion can overcome the world of magic, but magically speaking, he had none. They chatted for the remainder of time until they finally reached their destination, which is none other than Boulderkeep Plateau located at the further north of the Althas Kingdom within the borders. "Here, keep the change." Arion thanked the coachman and gave him 3 gold coins. He almost fainted when it got on his hands with an expression of 'what-the-hell-is-happening' face. "Mi-Mister... this is..." The coachman was trembling, his hands were shaking as he never touched a gold coin let alone own it. "What? Is it not enough? Here, keep this, we'll be going now." Arion gave him another 6 gold coins and just left him together with Lilith and Adriel without saying anything. However, the coachman couldn't take it anymore he burst in tears as the meager gold coins Arion gave will enormously change his life. Arion remembers that a single gold coin cost is really high, yet he remembers when he's playing games during his free time, he tends to use a premium teleportation pass so he could pass through the towns at ease and focus more on leveling. Besides, Arion's concept of currency is pretty broken since he's a billionaire back in the earth so he kind of forgot he got too absorbed in the world he inhabits rather than being economically frugal. "Alright! Let's find this mythical beast so I can expand my collection of inventions!" Arion declared and covered half of his face, laughing hysterically as if he was a villain himself. Although the determination that drives his desire to explore the vast magical world will crumble the moment he realized the four Goddesses peers and weave his chosen path.
