Chapter 28: Soft cap

1164 Words
The mages who were swarming the Guild earlier dwindled down where they can be counted with fingers, Arion quickly noticed Calix lying on the floor lifeless as Marget and another handsome wizard wearing flashy priest-garments with embroidery of the holy cross on both of his sleeves was by her side. "Master Marget! What happened here?" Adriel addressed the issue as soon as she got in touch with their party master. "Good thing you came early. See what of became of Calix, see it with your very eyes." Marget speaks mystery and so they certainly did. A dreadful sight filled the mood horror of the unknown, Arion, Adriel, and Lilith widened their eyes upon realizing that Calix whom they left earlier ultimately met his demise. He's not unconscious or anything and rather he's literally motionless. In order to vouch if he's truly dead, Adriel even placed her palms on top of his right chest and it turns out his pulses were blank. "Another one dies of 'that' quest? I think it's time to get away from this kingdom, it's cursed." One of the elf ladies said before leaving the front door. The doubt brewing within their heart is creating a distance between the kingdom and whether who they should serve or anchor onto at times of hardships. The mages in the Guild never bat an eye towards their fallen fellow and instead, they turn a blind eye towards what they should accept. "It seems it truly is paranoia... or is it?" Adriel clenches her fists and bit her lower lip. She was infuriated by the fact she couldn't do anything to save his life, and yet the worst part is they left him behind thinking he's alright. "I think paranoia has a different meaning here? Just what is it?" Arion asked. He's aware the paranoid is the state of mind where someone who's experiencing this mental disorder has a tendency to think they were being watched and this affects the mind triggering anxiety during the process. "Paranoia is caused by a cursed that whoever is stricken will be fated to die due to overthinking of a repeated moment that traumatized them." The flashy handsome wizard answered his question when he's not the one being asked. "And who are you?" Arion sounded a little condescending. This is one of his inclinations as he had the tendency of acting superior to those he deemed to be more formidable than him, just like when he has beaten up Adriel during their duel. Simply, Arion got this attitude back when he was still on earth, monthly, he's required to share a table with all of the presidents of powerful countries, wealthy personalities, and various more people so they could discuss together who would get access to his groundbreaking, revolutionary inventions that will surely benefit the entire human race. Of course, to solve this problem, he certainly used every card up his sleeves and played a higher role and so what he does is stand above the table, look down on everyone, and say to everyone that each sitting in front of the roundtable will be given a chance to speak, and while they are speaking, they should explain why they were worthy of his glorious inventions. Then everyone gets their turn conversing with him in a concealed room where no one will be able to hear a single soundwave. And he will simply rebuff them all and go home as nothing happen. It was a part of who he is. Seeing the haughty attitude of the guy with a priest get-up, he can sense his social position. Adriel flickered his forehead without prior notice and pulled his left ear whispering. "i***t! He's the Supreme Magister, Welven Husztyn, a direct wizard of the king, and currently the strongest Magister across the Althas Kingdom! Show some respect will you?!" She strongly reprimanded him so he won't repeat the mistake of exhibiting impudence. It's fine for her to be informal with her but she's just explicating that the Supreme Magister is on a whole different level. "I forgive you, young mage." The Supreme Magister addressed him kindly. "A new face here? It appears you must be from another kingdom. I am the Supreme Magister who administers all the Guildhalls in the Althas Kingdom." "Oh, I'm very sorry! I tend to talk that way, I apologized again! I'm Arion by the way." He bowed many times to show that he deeply regrets his action. His humility as the greatest inventor across the earth is unmatched outside political businesses, so he was thinking he should maintain his relationship with the inhabitants of the new world where he reincarnated. "It's fine really. I came here to get this Guildhall's monthly report myself and I ended up witnessing the death of a Magister... this is a grave matter since it affects our kingdom's line of power." Welven discussed the subject right away or else they will leave desecrate the fallen mage lying on the floor. "They said y'all are the last person he had a conversation with. What happened to him?" Marget inquired. "He was stricken by paranoia, just as we were thinking earlier," Arion answered. Both Marget and the Supreme Magister had a sharp, critical countenance. The seriousness is written all over their face. "Wait Arion, we are not sure that he was stricken and died because of paranoia." Adriel had a hunch that it's the same ailment yet they can't prove it. However, he already had seen right before his very eyes above Calix's head that it truly is paranoia, and in fact, he can still see the information of his current status. Name: Calix Level: 45 Class: Fire Sorcerer Rank: Sorcerer HP: 159 MP: 2342 Debuffs: Paranoia | Sleep Observing carefully over the information of his health, Arion had another discovery that the health system of the numerical value printed over the strange navigation system doesn't have any kind of limit as he had seen from the role-playing games he played. But instead, a person's life portion is directly calculated into numeral value. When he first saw Calix's health earlier, it was about 1123 Health Points, this implies it can go beyond this value but if he gulped an entire health potion, his HP cannot double its value so he assumed the system has some kind of soft cap. "Honestly, in fact, he's not dead yet..." For those with his presence to not suspect his inventory system as compression magic, Arion acted as if he's grabbing something in his pocket when he's just getting another one of his healing potions. Pulling out a vial of healing potion, Lilith remembered the vial that touched her lips when Arion forcefully made her drink its contents, and it's stunningly effective. An alchemist would never mistake the potion he was carrying. "Is that...?! Impermissible!" Adriel was shocked she almost passed out. "I have no idea why you are surprised." Arion scratched his scalp. Before it's too late, just like what he did to Lilith, he pulled the cork and forcibly pushed the opening of the vial into his mouth without mercy, and right after, he slapped his face that woke up the supposedly dead person.
