Chapter 38: Twist of fate

1218 Words
The Capital of Althas Kingdom is wider than Arion anticipated. Together with his companions, they were traveling over the further northern-west of the capital, observing the lively crowds across the streets made him feel homesick. Every party members were called by the Supreme Magister to go at his mansion, where his base is located, and discuss things regarding the appearance of the Mythical Beast that's been camping outside of the kingdom for almost a couple of months. After disembarking in the carriage and paying for the ride, Arion was greeted by an enormous gate that expands from the corner of his eyes up to the edge. A few meters away from the entrance is where the mansion is situated, it has a little discrepancy from the design and aesthetics of the contemporary composition but also kind of appeared to be a Spanish royal house, which is what he thinks of it as a first impression. Marget kind of entered the premises without informing the owner, she gets past through the gate that doesn't have any locked at all without batting an eye. Beckoning them and rest while wearing a sharp look that pierces one's confidence, he no longer wonders why they call her the Ice Witch. All of a sudden when they are at the elevated threshold of the mansion's front door, Arion instinctively released the Bounded Chains on his right hand and reloaded his Elemental Crossbow attached to his left mechanical arm with an elemental-imbued arrow when he felt an unknown aura abruptly popped behind him. "Woah there!" It was actually Welven, the Supreme Magister himself who's about to greet them in an unexpected way. "Oh, it was just you." He jerked both of his arms, pulling back his armaments in rest mode. The way he reacted when Welven just planned on pulling a prank on Marget is out of his expectation. His keen and reflexes were not someone of the rank of Apprentice, and instead saw the deftness that can rival a Magister in terms of sheer power. "My, my, you truly have an exceptional talent. I had hidden my entire self through the help of an advance Magister Spell yet you easily detected me? I commend your exceptional ability." It was the first time they heard him compliment someone other than his fellow Magisters. To top it off, Welven couldn't fathom the formation of alloys that replaced his arms or how they were created and most of all, he noticed his left eye contains the ability to somehow absorb the neighboring mana around him, but he couldn't tell the amount it receives nor the capacity it can digest. "I will take that as... Uhm, a compliment? Well either way, since you are here, shouldn't you guide us now?" Arion told to him and he woke up from his daydreaming. The others couldn't say a thing or two since they are aware of the Supreme Magister's illustrious and prominent social position. "Well then, everyone is here, please enter my mansion and feel at home." Welven raised his index and middle finger before the front door opened. The party has now entered the mansion, they were mesmerized by the grandiosity of the lobby and its aesthetic mood. For them, it doesn't look like the house of a Magister, it has more the vibe the same that the Guildhall had visible from the long narrow reception desk in the middle, and the two sides and left corners are where the hallway starts, along with the stairs next to the right passage connecting to the later part. The gleaming crystals attached over the chandeliers reflecting and refracting the light coming from the glass window from the side was truly eye candy. "So, why did we came here? We are actually busy and have no time for this." Arion showed his true personality being the busy man he truly should be. After he changed his perception over the magical world he awakened onto, he had now changed his way of life too. Although this time, Adriel and Marget couldn't scold him of his impudence, not when his blue eyes depict the seriousness he conveys. "To be honest, I invited you all here as a guest for two things. First I humbly apologized for pushing you on a quest that almost marked your death. I heard everything from Marget. But there is a reason for that." Welven finally showed his true colors. The Supreme Magister guided them on another chamber next to the lobby. What lies in the middle of the room after they entered is a round table, at least 12 wooden chairs with arms are around it, 2 males were sitting next to each other, and 2 females were perching on the sofa doing nothing, except for the one beside her who was diligently reading a thick tome. "They are the party who came in contact with the Mythical Fox?" One of the guys stood up ticking his fingers, arms were crossed. "I told you its a Mythical Boar! I have seen it alright." Lazing around the corner, the voluptuous lady relishing her time had inadvertently met eyes with Arion. Her eyes suddenly sprout the blossoms of affection upon seeing his beautiful face and strange arms that work through the gears of various attached alloys. "You guys are dumb. I already confirmed it's a Mythical Chimera. Just stay silent will you?" It seems the bookworm lady has a cold attitude. She couldn't lean behind because of her wings, the same race with Sarra, a harpy of a higher class. The Supreme Magister clapped twice to wrap things up. "I said they are already here. Please sit at your respective seat and–" His announcement was suspended when the cold-silent lady walked past through him slamming the door. "Ah, Yulia is pissed off. She hates crowd and noise the most." The voluptuous lady held Arion's hand that made him turned his head in a jerk. "What? Oh, I would like to get my personal space back." Arion pushes her away but she persisted. "C'mon, you have a masculine build under your strange clothing, no lovely muscles can escape my all-seeing clairvoyant eyes even when you are wearing that protective armor." This girl shamefully insinuated her index finger over his neck up to his lips. Arion would of course resist again and push her back with force but he felt how tight her hold was. Leaving a bitter taste on her tongue, Adriel was jealous and want to get him back but she couldn't because she knew the position of those who are present in the room even if she is a Magister herself. Before the situation gets worst, Welven pounded his hand over the table to get their attention. "Please position yourself, Marget's party is waiting for us to begin this joint meeting." He said that got the attention of the Magisters present in the room, the other left the room so they didn't care about her much. Everyone also sat on the vacant seat in front of the round table. Next to Arion is Lilith and on the other side is Adriel, and on the opposite side is Marget, both Yuna and Sarra were beside her. "Well then, just make sure this meeting will be worth my time." Arion sounded condescending. In presence of him is the pinnacle of the strongest wizards and witches of the Althas Kingdom, and surely it would weave into another twist of fate the Goddesses has prepared for them.
