Carlos left the freeway and cruised through a residential neighborhood filled with activity. Lawn mowing, a driveway basketball game, and a garage sale were in progress. Cars from the garage sale were parked at the curb near the Valois residence. He joined them and sat for a moment, thinking of the questions he had to ask. There was a risk in confronting the scientist before having talked with his boss, but he had to do something.
Kayten answered, escorted Carlos into the den, and left to get Peter. Carlos marveled at the completely human behavior of what he knew was a robot. Peter arrived with a questioning look.
