ALPHA ADRIAN'S POV
I looked at Sara coldly in her eyes and turned my back on her.
“Take her away.” The wolves dragged her out of my sight and out of the pack.
“The Alpha must not look weak.” I could hear my father's voice ringing in my head. He always said it to me and my brother even though my brother already looked weak.
He always beat up Tyler and waited for him to respond back. But most of the time, Tyler would stay beaten. Then my father would spit on him and look at him with disgust on his face. “Pathetic.” Father always made me watch as he beat up Tyler. There was a day that I got very angry at father that I pounced on Alpha Damon and started punching and kicking him. Father was a bit surprised that I would react like that. Even when I slashed his face, he hardly got angry. He pushed me away and I hit my back on the floor. But I wasn't ready to stay down like Tyler would. I stood up in rage and charged at the big wolf. I was still thirteen years old and I had not gotten my wolf yet, but I did not care at all. He carried me and slammed me to the ground again.
“Stay down!” He roared at me with his Alpha's voice and I was forced to submit. My entire body ached and I had gotten some injuries. My father was more impressed with me than angry. He walked up to me and raised me by my chin and looked at me. I stared back at him without a hint of fear in my eyes.
“I have seen a fire in you but never like this before. You have the fire of not just any Alpha. You have the fire of the greatest Alpha that will ever rule the Crescent Wolf Pack. You are going to be the Alpha. But before that, I will have to purge out this weakness in you. Anytime an Alpha responds based on his emotions, he is weak. And the Alpha must never look weak.” While he was talking at that time, it sounded very ridiculous, but he did not give up.
“I will make you become the Alpha that you are meant to be. When I'm done with you, you will be the greatest Alpha to ever rule.” He said with so much pride that I forgot my brother that I was robbing his own birthright.
From then on, my father really abandoned him and when my wolf came out some years later, he practically shunned Tyler from the pack and focused on me. I became more ruthless by the months.
When I had defeated my father in the rigorous battle for the title of the Alpha, I wanted my father to submit, but I remember his words like yesterday.
“Yield!” I roared at him with my Alpha's voice. But it was not powerful enough to make Alpha Damon submit.
“What is wrong with you, boy? Are you going to be a coward? You never show mercy to your opponent! The Alpha must never look weak!” He stood up and waved his claws at my face. I quickly dodged it and kicked his side. He was injured there already and he fell again.
I couldn't bear to stop this time. Father had already warned about being weak. To him, compassion and empathy will never make a good Alpha. He was panting and I was hesitating, with tears welling up in my eyes. Father looked up at me. He was getting angry that I was about to cry.
“Do it!” He yelled, and impulsively, I waved my claws and slashed his throat. There was no going back from this one. He can't quickly heal from this. He would die. The entire pack remained silent. I rushed to him to hold him up.
“Do not let that tear drop from your eyes.” He warned me and I fessed up.
“Now, you are the Alpha that I dreamed of. Never forget the lessons I taught you. Rogues and rival packs will invade you if they see that you are weak.” He struggled to say, in his final words before he died in my arms. Alpha Damon was a terrible man, but he was still my father. Like he warned, I have not cried since then. I pushed all the emotions inside and made everyone see the scarier version of me. The one that made my pack and even my rivals fear me. The only ones who have seen the other side of me are my mother, Sara and probably, my exiled brother, Tyler.
I walked into my mother's chambers and barged into her room without knocking the door.
“What is the meaning of what you did, mother?” I demanded from her angrily. If I hadn't taken over the situation, my people would have looked at me as weak. Luna Veronica was ever calm and was known to never throw the same energy back. She was the complete opposite of Alpha Damon.
“You were about to allow a mistake to happen and I merely stopped it for you.” She replied rather calmly, ignoring the fact that I was being rude to her.
“What mistake?” I asked. “You were about to allow your mate to be executed. You need to know that I perceive that she's not just your mate, but the key.” Mother spoke as she always does sometimes. Most times, she never speaks clearly and we will need to sit down and listen to her closely before we have a glimpse of what she is saying.
“Mother, what are you talking about?” I retorted.
“Sit down, my son. Let me tell you a short tale.” She advised me and I respectfully sat. No one was in her room to look at me otherwise.
“You know that my pack also trained with some mages. We knew every prophecy and signs from a distance. Long ago, there was an Alpha belonging to your lineage. You know all about him. Alpha Simon together with six other Alphas helped drive away the most dreadful enemies of the werewolf kingdom away from our territory. Up until date, we do not know exactly who those enemies are. We only refer to them as the sky people. Legend says that by the time the sky people return, there will rise an omega, with the purest wolf and the mark of the moon goddess. She will carry the spirit of the moon goddess and help the Alpha free this land and secure a victory over the sky people. I can sense that your mate has the spirit of the moon goddess.” Mother said.
“Mother, you are wrong. She is not my mate and she doesn't even have a wolf.” I argued with her and she smiled.
“You do not know a lot of things, my son. Do not listen to everything your father told you. Your father was not always right, you know? If he was, he would have seen that he was creating a monster in your brother. When you have gotten wiser, you will look for your true mate and stop joking around with that dummy.” She said, and stretched herself on her bed to have a nap.
I couldn't help but wonder about what my mother said. Is it all true? Where is my brother too.
TYLER'S POV
I walked amongst the rogues. Our eyes were bloodshot and I walked with a limp. It has been a rigorous two years of harnessing and rebuilding myself. Alpha Adrian still thinks that his weak elder brother is the leader of the rogues. He has no idea what he is going to face.
“Brother, you and I are just starting. You will beg me for mercy by the time I am done with you. You will beg for death and you will not even find it.” I promised him, as I looked at a strange object that fell from the sky and crushed it with my scaly, stronger arm. The battle line has just been drawn.
