Chapter 4: The Truce

“Sarah, I am sorry for everything that happened and how I treated you in the past. I know I was not the best father, and I am here to make everything right for how I treated you in the past.” My father said with remorse in his eyes. “D-a-d..” I find it difficult to say that word because it just reminded me of the pain I had to deal with myself growing up, and he is suddenly back to making things right after how many years? “I don't want to talk to you, at least not now,” I said as I tried to control the tears that welled up in my eyes. “The family wants you back, I want you back, everyone wants you back. You are Sarah Sinclair, the heir of the Sinclair Conglomerate, and it's time you get back to the family business.” My father said. I was shocked to hear him say, ‘The heir of the Sinclair Conglomerate?’, ‘Me?, 'How?’. “Yes Sarah, it's time you went back home and claim back what is rightfully yours and your boyfriend here has said a lot about you.” He said, pointing at Andy, who was smiling foolishly. “Boyfriend?” I was surprised at the term he used to describe him. “Babe, I am so sorry I did not wait for you earlier. It was more like I knew your father would be around, and I needed to keep him company before you got back.” Andy said as he wrapped his hands around my shoulder. “I need to speak with you for a moment. I will be right back Dad.” I said as I dragged Andy with me. Whatever games he was playing this time would not work out. “What the f**k are you doing in my house? And why did you tell my dad we are together?* I asked, glaring at him angrily. “You know he can hear you, right?” He said, trying to calm me down. “I think I should call Christian right away, we both know what he will do to you…” “And what will you tell your father? That you are engaged to a man almost twice your age?* Andy said, interrupting me halfway. “That is none of your business!” I shot back at him. “Think about this Sarah, you just got your family back, and you are the heir of the almighty Sinclair Conglomerate. Do you want to ruin your chance at getting back all you deserve because of your clumsy feelings for my dad?” He asked. “And that is the mistake you are making. It's not just some clumsy feelings. I love Christian with every bit of my being, but you will never understand what it feels like to love someone because you are selfish, and you only care about yourself!” I shot back at him angrily. “Okay fine, all you have to do is get your rights back and when you are on your own, I will leave.” He said. “Oh please, don't act like you care now. We both know you are not that generous, so tell me what you want and what is your catch in all of these?” I asked, knowing fully well he was doing this for a reason. “Fine, I need money. I mean my Dad will not give me any shares again because we are not on good terms at the moment and that is all thanks to you. So all I have to do is act as your fake boyfriend until you get everything in place with your family, in which you will give me some money, and after that, we can both go our separate ways.” He stated. I was quiet for some moments as I tried to digest all he had just said. He is right to start with, telling my father I am engaged to a man twice my age would not bring anything good, and he would consider it a forbidden romance and this was my chance at getting back at my family and getting back my rights. “So what do you say?” Andy said, breaking me off from my thoughts. “The moment I get my family sorted, you are out of the picture and do not mistake this for any sort of emotional attachment whatsoever. This is purely transactional, so it's best if you are on your best behavior.” “And most importantly, I do not want you around me except when necessary. I will also talk to Christian about this myself, so don't you dare say a word about this to him. Do we have an agreement?” I asked, knowing that was the only available option I had at the moment. I know this would hurt Christian, but I will explain all of this when the time is right. “The car is waiting outside to take you to the family house”. My father said as we joined him back in the living room. “Sure,” I said as I picked up my bag and followed him reluctantly. ******************************* “Hey babe, I have been trying to reach you for some while now, since the engagement party. Is everything okay?” Christian asked as I eventually picked up his call after some days. I was still trying to get things sorted out as soon as I could, so I could go see him and explain things to him. Most importantly, I can also get rid of Andy for good. “Uhm, everything is fine. I am just trying to sort things out from here. Let me call you back.” I said as I quickly ended the call. He is just about to see the worst news ever, and I don't know how he will handle it. I could tell that he was about to read today's paper as his friend George was fond of bringing him the news, and it was one of Christian's hobbies. Reading. “The missing heiress of the Sinclair Conglomerate, SARAH SINCLAIR is back to claim her rightful position as the heiress of the empire alongside her lover, ANDERSON GREY”. The paper states. I could see Christian's eyeballs almost popping out of his socket as they turned red immediately. I could see betrayal, anger, and pain shredding through every part of his body. As I saw him through the large camera lens stationed directly at his window while I was in the other building of his Sinclair properties, my heart shattered into pieces as I fell to the floor trying to contain the pain I was feeling in my chest. I am stuck between fighting for the love of my life and choosing my family. I picked up my ringing cellphone with my shivering hands ready to face my reality. "Sarah?" The voice on the line sounded so cold, sending chills down my spine.
