It took twenty minutes to discover that Jane was not at her boss'. According to him, she'd snuck out around the time we talked. An Audi came to pick her up and she left without telling him.
She lied to me.
I guessed I deserved that for not telling her about the mate bond sooner.
I spent the rest of the night scouring the entire town. At some point, I caught a whiff of her scent along the way, but that was all. It was too faint, which meant she'd merely passed by.
