Chapter 1
“How dare the Luna steal from the Alpha!” A man clamoured. “There shall be eternal punishment from the Goddess herself!”
“Traitor!” I tried to ignore the incessant roars of the pack but the more I tried the more I could hear. With my head held low, my hands in shackles and two guards tailing me, I made my way onto the platform.
“Today we gather to witness the execution of our former luna, Andrea Maud for the crime of stealing against the Alpha.”
“Stop this!” A man screamed. “This is an act of injustice!” Somewhere in the crowd, there was a minute group of supporters who were willing to stand by me til the very end.
But why?
“Shut up!” A man responded.
“Listen to yourselves!” This was The gamma. “You’re willing to execute someone without a proper investigation.” A loud uproar of arguments spurred from the crowd.
I looked to the mourning sky, while doing so I wished anyone could hear my cries for help and show me sympathy, show me the attention I had before. Before I knew it, the loud shouts had been silenced into nothing more than meaningless whispers and my eyes were locked onto his. They were the same sea green eyes with a light blue that faded gradually into a green. The only difference was they were now welled with hate and disdain, rather than the love we shared at first sight.
His arm was linked with a woman whose lips were fixed into a malicious grin.
This was the woman who ruined my life. The woman who betrayed me. The woman who I once deemed as an ally.
She was Maria Alfonso.
“You were saying?” He muttered sarcastically to the gamma. However, what he probably meant was, ‘Go against one more time and you’ll be executed as well.’
As tension tightened in the air, all eyes fell on me.
Even though I knew I was going to die my eyes burned in this pain that was a fire of invading emotions. It wanted to be extinguished by a waterfall but wasn’t going to let them see me cry.
I never had, so why start now?
The blade was handed to him as the pair stood beside me on the wooden platform.
“Thank you.” He replied to Beta.
I was glad to see he was ready to get this over and done with but the trepidation of death shrouded my bones. I knew myself enough to know that if that blade even touched me I'd recoil immediately almost like a defenceless animal squirming away from the butcher.
It frightened me knowing I'd be nothing more than that weak, defenceless animal.
“Before we start the execution, I'd like to gain an understanding of the thief’s intentions for stealing the ring of my deceased mother.” I knew instantly that he had no intentions of discovering the truth, he only wanted to embarrass me in my last moments.
He wanted to send me to the afterlife with a shameless death.
“You may proceed, Andrea,” Maria said, sugar-coating her words with fake innocence whilst partially covered by the Alpha’s robust figure.
The energy of eagerness and curiosity emanating from the crowd was enough to scare me into silence.
Maria's eyes bore into mine, declaring a silent challenge but there was no point because she had already won the battle. The alpha was hers and I was going to die.
It was simple, for there were no happy endings.
I wasn’t living in a fairytale, just a cold, grey reality.
But if that was truly the case, then why did it all come back to me?
Why did I still see those walks in the forest? Why did I see all those love notes and massive teddies? Why did I still see the love we had at first sight? Was it all me being delusional?
“I have nothing to say,” I replied in a solemn tone.
It was the truth.
I knew I should have done more to stop the rumours about her being the prophesied Luna. I should have done more when I caught Jared cheating on me with her. I should have done more to stop myself from being framed but now I couldn't do anything because I was on the threshold of death.
And nobody would believe that the real prophesied Luna was me.
“Then let the execution begin.” With the sword in his right, he used his free arm to contain me in a taut bear hug.
All movement had been made impossible.
The crowd watched in awe while some looked away.
“I always knew you’d die in my arms.” He muttered, low enough for only me to hear. “Any last words?”
“Sure,” I replied, the blade made a small slit in my throat. “This is why your mother abandoned you.”
A pained gasp escaped my throat as the blade plunged through my heart. Black spots painted my vision.
I was invaded by the dark.
…
My eyes shot open to an abyss of gloominess. As I lifted my weak body off the ground, my hands were clouded by dry dirt. If it weren't for the small rays of light, I wouldn't be able to see at all whilst I lumbered onto the coarse wall, limping along.
What kind of place was this?
Getting closer and closer to the growing light, the view of towering, snow-capped mountains immersed. The sky was painted shades of lilac, blue and gold. When I reached the end of the cave, the liquid sunlight poured onto my bare shoulders.
I was standing on the edge of a cliff.
My head turned either way, searching for a way out to no avail.
What if I was stuck forever? I thought but I brushed it off as a black spec came into view. It was a man climbing the mountain.
“Hey!” I called, whilst waving my arms around. “Hey!” His neck snapped towards me.
The poor guy probably thought I was an i***t.
After a few minutes of climbing towards me, I was greeted by the man.
“Is there a problem, Miss?” The man questioned, he had an angry look to him, that caused unease to develop in the pit of my stomach.
“Yes, uh…” I waited for him to tell me his name.
“The name’s Daniel but I go by Dan.”
“Andrea,” I smiled as the awkwardness of the situation fell upon me. “Anyways, I’ve been stranded here and I have nowhere to go, is there any chance you could help me?”
“Sure,” He replied, “I’m the Alpha of the Rock Hill pack, I'm sure we can make some room for you.”
“The Rock Hill Pack?” As the Luna of the Crystal Pack, our packs had always been sworn enemies but that didn’t mean I knew the face of the Rock Hill Alpha. If he found out I was the Luna of the Crystal Blue pack, I’d die immediately.
The Crystal pack? Where did I know that place from?
Then the realisation dawned upon me while the memories gushed in like a surging flood.
Wasn’t I supposed to be dead?
