"What are you doing? I'm trying to return your clothes. Thanks for your help, but I don't need them anymore. Put your clothes back on quickly." Hearing Charlie's words, Amanda was momentarily stunned. Her fear instantly turned to anger as she said, "Do you know how much you scared me just now? I thought you were going to kill me too!"
Charlie scratched his head in confusion. "Why would I kill you when you haven't attacked me? I came here to save people. Put your clothes on quickly. There are a lot of branches and shrubs in this jungle. Without clothes for protection, you'll get scratched easily."
Amanda looked at the clothes, which were covered in wolf blood, especially the bra on the outside, which was completely stained red. Her face twisted in disgust as she said, "These clothes are filthy now. How am I supposed to wear them? Don't you have anything else?"
"Other clothes?" Charlie glanced around, realizing he had run back to the area full of corpses to avoid the wolf's attack. He said, "There are clothes everywhere here. Just take some from any of these corpses and wear them."
"These belonged to dead people! How can I wear them?" Amanda said, her voice full of disgust.
Charlie was momentarily speechless. "What's wrong with wearing these clothes? These people are already dead. Using their stuff to help us survive is what matters most. It's up to you, anyway. If you want to wear them, I'll get them for you. If not, you can stay naked."
Charlie had survived alone on the island for three years because he knew how to make use of every available resource. That was the only reason he could now stand before Amanda.
But Amanda, who had just arrived on this deserted island, clearly didn't understand the logic of survival. She still clung to the mindset of civilized society, unaware of how brutal human nature could become on this lawless island.
Amanda crossed her arms over her chest, but her impressive breasts pressed through the gaps between them. Charlie, however, didn't let his eyes linger on her body. Instead, he focused on the distant firelight and said, "Are you going to wear their clothes or not? If not, I need to save other people. With the loud noise at the crash site, I'm worried that besides us, other creatures might have noticed it too."
Amanda's face paled as she asked fearfully, "Other creatures? What do you mean? Wild animals? If it's so dangerous over there, maybe we shouldn't go. Let's just find a place to spend the night instead."
Charlie laughed and proudly patted his chest. "Finding a place to spend the night is easy. I've built shelters all over this island, and the nearest one is just an hour's walk away."
But then Charlie's tone turned serious. "But surviving on this island with just the two of us will be very difficult, especially with someone like you slowing me down. I'm not confident I can keep you alive so easily."
He continued, "More people means more strength. On this savage island, we humans need to stick together to survive. Otherwise..." His eyes darkened with sadness. "The tragedy from three years ago will happen again."
Amanda felt like her head was about to explode. Charlie's words carried too much information for her to process all at once. She even unconsciously lowered her hands from her chest and asked, "What happened three years ago? You have shelters all over the island? It'll be difficult to survive with me? What are you talking about?"
Charlie suddenly froze, realizing he might have revealed too much, and quickly changed the subject. "Do you still need clothes? If not, I need to hurry to the crash site."
"Yes! I want that person's clothes! Can you help me remove them?" Amanda nodded.
Charlie followed Amanda's pointed direction to a corpse. It was a woman's body, her face shattered beyond recognition, but judging by her clothing, she appeared to be young.
Amanda changed into the clothes, murmuring repeatedly to the corpse, "May God bless your soul." Charlie, however, urged her on, "Let's hurry. I'm worried the monsters might get there before us."
Although Amanda was very reluctant to help rescue others, on this deserted island, Charlie was the only person she could rely on. Especially after being chased by wolves, she literally wanted to tie herself to him.
Indeed, the saying "experience is the best teacher" held true.
The dark jungle concealed countless dangers, and even though Charlie had spent over a thousand days on the island, he wouldn't risk moving at night. He walked cautiously.
The distant fire grew larger, with small flames still licking the crashed fuselage. Through gaps in the branches, Charlie and Amanda finally caught sight of the broken aircraft lying on the shore.
But it wasn't just the wreckage that left a strong impression. It was the bodies scattered across the beach. These people had likely been saying goodbye to their families or chatting with friends just hours ago. Now, they were reduced to mere flesh, some of them not even whole.
Amanda covered her mouth, her whole body trembling. Charlie, though still shaken, was less affected after experiencing this before. "Come on, let's see who's still alive."
As they stepped out of the jungle and onto the beach, Amanda couldn't hold it in any longer. She fell to her knees, vomiting.
Charlie frowned and pulled out a face mask, partially blocking the stench of blood before beginning his search of the area. "There are nine bodies here. If everyone in this section of the cabin died, there should be more than this."
Charlie drew his machete and approached an area littered with scattered body parts. Using a stick, he moved the remains aside when his eyes suddenly widened.
"This is... brown fur! D*mn it, I didn't expect it to get here before me!" Charlie cursed, but his thoughts were interrupted by Amanda's voice. "Someone's alive here. Come quickly!"
Charlie dropped the stick and ran toward Amanda. Near a large beach rock, a man lay in a pool of blood clutching his abdomen, barely alive. When he saw Charlie and Amanda, he summoned all his strength to shout, "Don't come closer! Don't lead the monster here. Go somewhere else!"
"The monster's gone!" Charlie ignored the man's warning and crouched down to inspect his injuries. Lifting the man's clothes, he quickly pulled them down again.
"I can't save him. There's a huge gash in his stomach, and his intestines are spilling out. Even in the outside world, this kind of injury would be nearly impossible to treat, let alone here on this deserted island." Charlie wasn't sure if the injured man understood him, but after he finished speaking, the man shakily reached out toward Charlie and whispered, "Water... I want some water..."
