Hearing the man speak fluent English, Charlie was momentarily startled but quickly unscrewed the water bottle from his bag and helped the man take a few sips. In cases of severe blood loss, people often feel intense thirst, a grim signal that death might be near.
After drinking some water, the man's thirst eased slightly, making his final moments a bit more bearable.
Noticing the slight improvement in the man's condition, Charlie understood it was just the last flicker of life. He anxiously asked, "Sir, what attacked you? How did you get these terrible injuries?"
Fear lingered in the man's eyes as he shook his head and replied, "I couldn't see clearly. It was pitch black, and there were screams everywhere. I just ran desperately in this direction. Then I felt a sharp pain in my stomach and blacked out. When I came to, I saw you guys."
Charlie sighed in frustration, disappointed that the man couldn't provide any useful information. He then asked, "Do you know where the others went?"
"They all ran," the man said with a bitter smile. "Those who failed died here. But before I passed out, I saw several people running that way." He raised a trembling hand, pointing toward the jungle near the shore, close to the crash site.
Once the man finished speaking, Charlie patted his shoulder and stood up, leaving the half-full water bottle behind. He prepared to head in the direction the man had pointed.
Amanda stood frozen, her eyes wide with shock. After Charlie walked about thirty feet, he turned back and noticed she hadn't followed. He called out sharply, "Come on, what are you waiting for?"
"Are we just leaving? What about him?" Amanda pointed at the man, who was still desperately drinking water. Her voice trembled. "Are we going to leave him here?"
Charlie replied helplessly, "I already told you, he can't be saved. Shouldn't we focus on saving others who still have a chance?"
Amanda glared at him, her anger rising. "But he's still alive! How can you just abandon someone who needs help?"
"How should I help him? Do you have the ability to save him? Do we have any medicine? Even if you did, can you guarantee it would work?" Mixed feelings crept over Charlie's heart. Although he had grown accustomed to dealing with death, each experience still brought him deep pain.
He emphasized, "This is a deserted island. We don't have endless supplies! I used to think like you three years ago, but now I know how naive I was. You'll understand one day. If you want to survive, follow me. Now!"
Amanda clenched her fists, tears streaming silently down her face. The dying man turned to her and said weakly, "Go with him. He's right. I won't make it. He has the qualities of a leader. Following him will give you a better chance of survival."
With those final words, the man's expression froze, and the water bottle slipped from his lifeless hand. The water spilled onto the sand and vanished instantly, just like his life.
Amanda covered her face and sobbed uncontrollably. Watching someone die before her eyes had shaken her deeply. But knowing she had no other choice, she followed Charlie, tears falling as she walked.
Charlie, meanwhile, was already thinking about where those survivors might have gone.
The direction the man had pointed was due north of the island, near the crash site. Charlie mentally mapped the area, searching for possible hiding spots, and quickly thought of one. "Follow me," he said. "There's a cave a few hundred yards from here. We'll check there first. If we don't find anyone, we'll head back to my camp nearby."
Charlie seemed very familiar with the entire island, which piqued Amanda's curiosity, especially when he mentioned "three years ago," making her feel that Charlie's identity was anything but ordinary.
However, this wasn't the right moment to ask detailed questions, as Amanda was busy keeping up with Charlie. Under his confident guidance, they soon arrived at the entrance of a cave.
The sea breeze blowing through the cave created a haunting "whooshing" sound that sent chills down Amanda's spine, especially with the pitch-black path ahead. Nervously, she moved closer to Charlie.
"This is the cave I mentioned. There's no real danger inside, but we should keep an eye out for some cave-dwelling animals during the day... Hey, what are you doing?" Charlie suddenly froze as he felt his arm being wrapped by Amanda's soft breasts, the pressure making his blood circulation feel almost restricted.
Amanda clung to Charlie, her body trembling slightly. "I... I'm scared! It's so dark inside, and I only feel safe holding onto you!"
"But what if there's danger inside? If you're holding onto me, I can't react quickly. Let go and just follow behind me. I'll protect you as best I can," Charlie assured her.
"No, I'm too scared!" Another gust of sea breeze echoed through the cave, making Amanda tighten her grip.
Charlie tried to pull his arm free, but Amanda clung to him like glue, her soft chest pressing firmly against him, making it impossible to move.
"In that case..." Charlie raised his free hand and, holding Amanda close for balance, suddenly slapped her booty.
"Ouch!" Amanda let out a startled yelp, instinctively letting go of Charlie's arm and preparing to slap his face. "You shameless pervert!"
Charlie caught her hand mid-air, finally freeing himself, and smirked. "How am I the shameless one? You were the one hugging me. I didn't say anything, but now you're trying to hit me? Should I report you for harassment?"
Amanda felt both embarrassed and angry. Her face turned bright red, which made her rather adorable. She stomped her foot in frustration, her chest bouncing slightly, and snapped at Charlie. "But you didn't have to spank me!"
"You think I wanted to? What else was I supposed to do when you wouldn't let go? Alright, enough of this. Let's get into the cave and find the survivors. We need to get back to my camp before dawn. There's more to do during the day!" Charlie turned on his flashlight and walked into the cave, leaving Amanda to fume as she quickly followed behind him, her earlier grievances momentarily forgotten.
Charlie, still grinning mischievously, glanced back and, taking advantage of Amanda's reluctance to make a scene in the cave, teased her, "You should exercise more. Your booty isn't as bouncy as your b*obs!"
Hearing the sound of teeth grinding behind him, Charlie ducked his head and quickened his pace. Amanda, dropping all pretense, caught up with him, closing the distance between them.
