Intro
Hi, my name is Aria. I just turned 18 years old and I live in a small town that’s called Blue Belle. This town doesn't have a lot of people, but just enough so we don't know everyone in town. I’m an orphan. I don’t remember my parents but when I was just a baby, Amare and her husband Ekon, took me in. They’re from Africa. I look nothing like them. I’m lighter than they are and my hair is light brown, medium length, and wavy if you were wondering. But I love them and they’re amazing. They are the only ones with darker skin color than everyone else in town which gave my family special energy around our house because we’re different. But we are very accepted and everyone is friendly of course, well maybe not everyone. Blue Belle is not very known but it’s not a bad place to live in. I’m more similar to the kids that I’m in school with than Amare and Ekon, except for my eyes maybe. Don’t get me wrong, I have hazel brown eyes but they are a bit purple too which shows a lot when the sun hits my eyes. I was kinda bullied for that in the summers when the sun shone the most. But that was when I was younger and Amare had told me that I was beautiful and strong no matter what anyone else says and that really stuck with me and. I now always stand up for myself and I never let any negativity bring me down. Amare and Ekon really know how to talk to me, unlike my teachers. When they are trying to explain something I don’t understand, I usually just nod and ask Amare or Ekon about it later instead. Maybe it’s the African accent. It just sounds so soothing and comfortable to listen to. Everyone in this town is so, what can I say? Normal? Well not normal, no one's normal, but no one is like us. It's obvious that my family is different. It's just us three. Everything about us is different. We have weird traditions and we have many statues and weird wooden masks hanging around the place. We believe in ghosts, spirits, and even fairies. But I do get bullied now a lot for that but as I said before. It doesn’t bother me. I do have friends if you thought otherwise.
One time a girl was walking past our house with some new friends that had just moved to town and she looked at us as said; “Those people are the witches in town, they’re freaks. Don’t be friends with them.” she said very loudly so we could hear her as we were eating chicken-soup out on the front porch. We all looked at each other smiling. "Some people just act stupid and it’s not our job to fix it." is something that Ekon used to say and he says that they’re just afraid of us, that’s why they’re being mean to hide the fear and to try and drive us away. “We must always be brave and kind.” is our motto and we go by it.
Our house has two floors and is crammed with random stuff laying all around the house. Our theme, I would say, is natural, like nature. We have a brown carpeted floor and wood kitchen chairs and table. Our sofa is black and we have a new TV in front of it. The stairs up to my room are wooden and creak every time I step on them. My favorite place is in our garden. It’s so peaceful there. It has grey brick walls around it so no one can see inside which makes it also feel very isolated in a good way.
“Aria, come down to the kitchen. I have food for you.” Amare called from the kitchen, her accent strong. By the way, they named me Aria because they knew my biological father. His name was Ario. They wanted me to have something to connect me to him. Both my parents drowned when they went out sailing together for their anniversary. A sudden storm hit. Sometimes things like that happen. But I’m thankful for Amare and Ekon for taking me in.
I rushed downstairs. They creaked like hell and for a moment I thought I would fall right through them. “What I tell you about running down the stairs? They will break you know.” says Ekon who was sitting on the sofa reading the paper.
“Oops, yes. Totally forgot.” I said and went to the kitchen. There was already a plate with an omelet and fruits on the side. I quickly ate my meal.
“You shouldn’t be eating so fast. It’s not good for you.” Amare said as she took my plate to wash it.
“I know but I want to get to school as fast as possible.” I stood up and started to walk out.
“What, go to school as fast as possible? That’s new.” she said with wide eyes.
“What’s wrong with you?” Ekon said teasingly from the living room.
I laughed. “No, I want to get to school to see Hailey because it’s her birthday today and I have a gift for her that I want to give her.”
They just giggled as I walked up the stairs. “Tell her I said “Happy birthday!”.”
“I will!”
