4. I Keep Coming Back To You

"I don't understand why's he's interested in me all of a sudden," Payton said, as she stood at the lockers with Mal.

"Maybe he's just trying to get to know you?" Mal questioned, taking out a pink note book. "Do you like him?"

Payton looked up, mouth half way open, unsure of what to say, "I guess? I mean- I would like to be friends, but not like that."

"Oooh," Mal giggled and waved it off, "Sorry. Silly me, right?" she paused, "So, what about you and James?"

She shrugged, "He's nice but-"

"You like someone else?"

"Maybe? I don't know. No guy has really liked me before."

"Really? In any of the schools you've gone to?!"

"Yeah," She nodded and looked ahead and saw Derek walking towards her. Quickly, she shut her locker, glanced at him and walked to the music room. Mal carried on and made her way towards the lunch room in search of Lily.

"Payton we need to talk-" Derek stopped as he heard piano and someone singing.

He listened and leaned on the door frame and watched her, completely shocked.

" I know you say you know me, know me well But these days I don't even know myself, no. I always thought I'd be with someone else. I thought I would own the way I felt, yeah."

Payton continued to play the piano and sing as Derek walked in and stood behind her, " I call you but you never even answer. I tell myself I'm done with wicked games. But then I get so numb with all the laughter. That I forget about the pain. Whoah, you stress me out, you kill me

She sighed and stood, still facing the piano, but as she tried to back up, she bumped into Derek which caused her to jump and trip. Her breath got caught in her throat as Derek grabbed her by the waist and pulled her up, they were inches apart from each other.

"I'm telling you she went in here Lil," Came Mal's voice and she opened the door of the music room, she stopped and stood gawking at the sight. "Ma-" Lily came in behind her and gasped, "S- sorry, didn't mean to interupt anything!" she said and dragged Mal out and closed the door.

Payton was still in the same place she had been for a few moments now, still looking into those brown eyes of his, and falling in a trance. For minute, she actually started to lean in closer, Derek the same, then she quickly jerked away and shook her head. "You were going to kiss me..." She said, looking at him.

Derek turned to her, "You'll know when I'm going to kiss you." He answered and walked out, leaving Payton to stare at the wall in thought.

"So.." Lily looked at Payton, her and Mal were both still wondering what went on in the music room when they walked in. "What happened with you Mr. Hale?"

"You mean Derek?" Payton didn't look up from her notepad as she was putting the final touches on the two wolves. "Nothing."

"He had you by the waist!" Mal said, leaning over, her red hair falling in her face, causing her to brush it away. "You can't say it was nothing."

"It was nothing. Look, I got up and tripped, he grabbed me and basically saved me from falling."

"But you guys were so close, like really close. I could see the want in your eyes." Lily pointed at her with her for for her salad. "You wanted him to kiss you Pay."

"N- no I didn't, I wanted to get away. Yeah we were close, but too close for comfort." She stopped sketching and stared blankly at the table, thinking of the music room incident. Derek's warm brown eyes looking into her soft green ones, they're faces inches away, his tight grip around her waist- no! This was not good! 'Snap out of it Payton!' she thought.

"Say what you want," Mal sighed, "he's got the feels for you girl."

Payton's heart fluttered, the feels? Derek had the feels for her, really? 'Ew, no.' she rolled her eyes and pushed the thought away. "We're just friends." She muttered.

"Maybe." Mal replied.

"Or maybe, more.." Like giggled and made a heart with her two hands.
