Chapter 1 - The Shift

Sarah POV

My parents and brothers have always been honest towards me. They told me how I became their little princess. They all adore me and treated me like their own . I couldn’t ask for more.

My brothers have always been protective about me. We were not allowed to leave the enchanted forest and cross the river.

We once crossed the river accidentally when I was four years old while playing and the rogues sensed us .

Rogues are werewolves who became feral creature due to loneliness. My parents were immediately alerted and came to our rescue. That was the only one time we went outside. I always wondered how life would outside these boundaries.

Now I am 16 and I got my wolf when I was 12.

Flash back

I was sleeping one midnight and I heard a voice. “Hello Sarah” . “Who is this ?” I asked.

“Its me” said the voice. “Saaly, your wolf” . I was shocked. Usually werewolves shift at 15.

I could not feel my legs and some energy took control of my body and forced me out of the cabin and into the nearby woods . I fell on my knees and cried in agony . I screamed as I started feeling the burning sensation on my skin and saw white fur growing out of it. I heard the snapping of bones braking and rearranging as I cried in agony. I could feel my jaws grow . After ten minutes, the pain stopped . I finally opened my eyes to see I am on all four and white furry paws with silver coating at the end . I heard gasps and turned towards the sound . I saw my parents and brothers shocked. I slowly walked toward them. “ Your wolf is so mesmerising , you should look at your own reflection . Follow me” mom said shifting into her blond wolf . Dad and my brothers shifted too. She started running and we all started following her.

She took us to a secret lake. It was full moon and I could see its reflection in the crystal clear water. The lake was sparkling like they were moon dust floating. I looked at my own reflection and felt proud of my wolf . My hearing, sight and strength enhanced. I ran freely around the lake enjoying the breeze blowing my fur. I could feel Sally being happy. Mom dad and brothers joined me and we started communicating through mind-link. Even though I was an adopted daughter as this family took me in as their own and as we are living inside the enchanted forest, every one can communicate with each other through mind-link once they get their shapeshifter counter part.

Dad asked us to follow him inside the forest where we can hunt. We hunted and ate small animals and slept around. Mom and dad were attached and were purring in satisfaction. I loved the way dad looked at my mom loving wondering if I would ever experience it. I shook my head telling myself I am still a kid and it’s a long way to go.

“Saaly, how did you like our first expedition ?”

“Oh Sarah! What can I say ? Those animals were delicious”

My wolf can’t think about anything other than food! .

“ Saaly! I am talking about my family. I have to confess to you I am not their biological daughter”

“I know everything about them Sarah, I have gone through your memories as soon as I woke up. Biological or not, we cannot ask for anything more. They have been the best parents we could ever ask for” when my wolf said this I felt satisfied.

“One more thing Sarah, don’t ever shift in front of people who you don’t trust. We are special. We are blessed by the goddess”.

I nodded at my wolf thinking what could be the reason.

I didnt know how to shift back. Mom istructed me to take back control and imagine my human form. I did just as she told.

My wolf gave back the control and I shifted back to my human form with clothes still on. I couldn’t believe shifting on my 12th birthday without shattering my clothes. They all shifted behind the tree and got dressed with the clothes tied to their legs. Mom walked and smiled towards me. Usually all wolfs shift on their 18th birthday but i shifted when i was just 12. Because i was adopted no one knew my actual date of birth. I thought today must be it.

“I know you have a lot of questions. Don’t worry I have all the answers that you seek.

Sarah my darling , you are a special child . U have been blessed with your wolf early as you are destined for greater things. This won’t stop here. You will unlock few magical abilities as you are a pure breed. But you must remember one thing child , never shift in front of others. Never train in your wolf form until you are 18 years of age. Even if you do , its only with us and in a secluded location. Use your abilities only in front of people you trust” mom stated.

I nodded my head , still processing everything she said . I wanted to learn more about this pure breed and the abilities and was confused about the warning as no one with evil heart can enter the enchanted forest.

I told my mother the conversation I had with my wolf .

“Your wolf if right dear. Always trust her instincts. They can never go wrong. Always relay in her judgement. You and your wolf are one not two separate entities.”

“Okay mom I will do as you say”

“Magnus and Micheal , now it is all the more reason to protect your sister more fiercely. Sarah, you will be joining your brothers for training from tomorrow” dad ordered.

“Yes dad” my brother answered in unison.

Dad was good at combat skills and weapons like swords. Mom at archery. They were both training my brothers since 15 . An year before shifting. I always sat on the balcony and saw them train. I was not allowed to train as I was too young and they couldn’t bare to see me from getting hurt.. I think it came out as a shock to them as I shifted early . Now that my strength has increased and thanks to Saaly my wolf I would be allowed to train.

I was so happy and giddy , thinking about tomorrow’s training , I nearly jumped unable to contain my excitement and went to bed with that thought in mind .
