Chapter 11: You Tried to Run

596 Words
I shouldn’t have kissed him. That thought repeated in my mind over and over again. But no matter how many times I told myself that… My body remembered something else. His touch. His voice. The way everything felt when he was close. Dangerous. Too dangerous. I stood in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection. I didn’t look like the same person anymore. And that scared me. “You need to leave,” I whispered to myself. That was the only solution. Before it got worse. Before I completely lost control. Tonight. I would leave tonight. I waited until the mansion grew quiet. The lights dimmed. The guards changed shifts. I paid attention this time. Learned their patterns. I wasn’t weak. I just needed the right moment. And now… I had it. Slowly, I opened my door. The hallway was empty. Silent. Perfect. My heart started beating faster. Not from fear— From determination. Step by step… I moved forward. Past the staircase. Past the living room. Almost there. The main door stood ahead. Freedom. My hand reached for the handle— “Going somewhere?” My entire body froze. Slowly… I turned. He stood in the shadows. Watching me. Like he had been there the whole time. My heart dropped. “I—” I had no excuse. No explanation. He stepped forward. One step. Then another. The light hit his face— And I saw it. Not calm. Not controlled. Angry. Really angry. “You tried to run,” he said quietly. Not a question. A fact. My throat went dry. “I…” I couldn’t lie. Not to him. “Yes,” I whispered. Silence. Heavy. His jaw tightened. “After everything…” His voice dropped lower. “You still tried to leave.” My chest tightened. “I had to,” I said. “Why?” He was closer now. Too close. “Because this isn’t my life,” I said, my voice shaking slightly. “Because I don’t belong here.” Silence. Then— His hand suddenly grabbed my wrist. Not gentle this time. Strong. Firm. “You belong where I say you belong,” he said coldly. My heart skipped. “You don’t own me,” I shot back. Big mistake. His eyes darkened even more. “Don’t test me,” he warned. But something inside me refused to back down. “Then let me go,” I said. Silence. A dangerous one. For a moment… I thought he would actually do it. That he might release me. But instead— He pulled me closer. Suddenly. My breath hitched. “You kissed me,” he said quietly. My heart stopped. “You didn’t stop me,” he continued. His voice lower now. “And now you want to run?” I couldn’t answer. Because he was right. “You don’t get to do that,” he said. My chest tightened. “I don’t belong to you,” I whispered. His grip loosened slightly… But he didn’t let go. “Maybe not,” he said slowly. “But you’re not leaving.” The finality in his voice made my heart drop. “Why?” I asked quietly. He looked at me— Really looked this time. And for a second… The anger faded. Just a little. “Because I won’t let you,” he said. Not loud. But absolute. My heart raced. This wasn’t just control anymore. It was something deeper. Something I didn’t fully understand yet. And the worst part? I wasn’t sure if I still wanted to leave.
