Chapter 6: Dangerous Protection

stayed in my room. Just like he told me. But staying didn’t mean resting. My mind refused to be quiet. Everything felt wrong. The mansion… The silence… And most of all—him. His words echoed in my head again. “In my world, control and protection are the same.” I hugged myself tighter, standing near the window. Outside, the sky was slowly turning darker. Night again. Another night in this place. A sudden sound made me freeze. Voices. Not calm. Raised. Urgent. Something was happening. I stepped closer to the door, my heart beating faster. I shouldn’t go out. He told me to stay. But curiosity… And fear… were stronger. Slowly, I opened the door just a little. The hallway was dimly lit. And empty. But the voices were coming from downstairs. Without thinking, I stepped out. Quietly… carefully… I moved toward the stairs. The closer I got… The clearer the voices became. “We found him near the gate—” “He’s not alone—” “Boss needs to know—” My breath caught. Gate? Someone was outside? Suddenly— A strong hand grabbed my arm. I gasped, spinning around— And froze. Him. His eyes were darker than before. Sharp. Dangerous. “What are you doing?” he asked coldly. My heart raced. “I heard voices, I—” “I told you to stay in your room.” His grip tightened slightly. Not enough to hurt… But enough to remind me— He was in control. “Something is happening,” I whispered. He stared at me for a moment. Then— “Go back.” “No.” The word slipped out before I could stop it. Silence. Dangerous silence. His gaze hardened. “You don’t say no to me.” My chest rose and fell quickly. “Then stop treating me like I’m blind!” For a second… I thought I went too far. But instead of anger— Something else appeared in his eyes. Interest. “You really don’t know when to stay quiet,” he murmured. Before I could respond— A loud noise echoed from outside. Gunshot. My entire body froze. “What was that—” He pulled me closer instantly. One arm around me. Strong. Firm. Protective. “Stay behind me,” he ordered. More voices. Running footsteps. The atmosphere turned chaotic in seconds. “Boss!” one of the men rushed in. “They broke through the outer gate!” My heart dropped. They? Who are they? His expression didn’t change. “Handle it,” he said coldly. “Already trying, but—” Another loud noise. Closer this time. I instinctively grabbed his arm. I didn’t even realize it until he looked down at my hand. Our eyes met. For a brief moment… Everything else disappeared. The noise. The danger. Just him… And me. “You’re scared,” he said quietly. I didn’t answer. Because it was obvious. Suddenly— He pulled me even closer. My back pressed lightly against his chest. “Stay here,” he said near my ear. His voice was low. Calm. But firm. “I won’t let anything happen to you.” My heart skipped. Why did that… sound real? “Take her upstairs,” he ordered one of the guards. “No!” I protested. “I’m not leaving—” He turned to me again. His hand lifted slightly… Then stopped. Like he was holding himself back. “Don’t make this harder,” he said quietly. I froze. Something in his tone… It wasn’t just command anymore. It sounded… Almost like concern. Slowly… I stepped back. The guard gently guided me toward the stairs. But before I disappeared— I looked at him one last time. Standing there… Calm in chaos. Dangerous… And somehow— the only person I felt safe with. And that scared me more than anything else.
