Chapter one
Alistair roams throught his father's former land. Before the lords and dukes pillaged his homeland. Allister will never forgive them for what they did. They murdered his family during a riot. They killed them for solely one reason....because his family came from a long lineage of vampires. Vampires are a rare sight to see. The 'vampires' born in this age are usually just human with small bits of vampire blood flowing in them. So they were stronger than humans, but not as strong as vampires. They don't drink blood like vampires. His family was one of those 'vampire' clans. Only Alistairs dead younger sister and himself are real vampires. Alistair walks through one of the villages. His cloak drapes over his body and his hood covers his head, so nobody could recognise him. Would somebody even recognise him? He hasn't been in this land since he was a child. He wasn't even allowed from his father to go outside. So he snuck out with his guardian many times, but still no normal citizen knew how he looked back then. He sighs and looks around. The village is poor and the smell disgusts him. Humans perish before his eyes and the corpses just lay there being eaten by insects and birds. Even the food people are eating, looks death. Kids run around playing in pis and dirt. Not caring what kind of disease surrounds them. Alistair sighs again. It's sad how this place deteriorated after his father's death. He wants to help them but this is not the time. It only fules his determination to save them from the current tyrant, Webb. Alistair walks to a merchant. He needs food to survive his trip to the next village. It's a two day walk and the last time he ate was 2 weeks ago. Drinking from a human would bring to much attention to a newcomer in a little village like this. He looks at his limited option of decent appaering vegetables. "Something to eat, is always better than nothing." he thinks to himself. The merchant is happy to be able to earn some money. Alistair continues his walk throught the market and buys everything he needs. Now he just needs a place to sleep. He finds a place to stay. He wants to be completely rested before continuing his travel. He stays with a family of twelve. They look just like an average household in this land. Brown hair, brown eyes, pale skin. The house is small, has only 3 rooms and no bathroom. Most importantly, it's a warm place to stay. The mother puts a blanket down on the ground right before the stove for him. He thanks the mother and settles down on the blanket. The mother blushes and continues to cook. They are a nice and close family. The children play with eachother, the father plays along and all eat together. They even gave Alistair a meal with the little bits they had. Alistair never felt this warmth with his own family. After a few minutes they all goes to sleep. In the middle of the night, a loud noise wakes up the family and Alistair. The family hugs eachother scared. Only the father stands before them with a shovel to protect them. Alistair recognises the sound all to well. Soldiers plundering houses. The father of the family yells at Alistair to stay behind him. How sweet...he wants to protect the traveler. They must think that he is weak. Alistair can't blame him. Most travelers are because they barely can eat and drink during their voyages. He's different. He turns to the family. "Hide. This will end ugly." Alistair takes his sharp long two-edged sword from under his dark blue cape. It's a beautiful, but oh so deadly and dangerous. The sword is black from the black magic flowing in it. It's one of a kind and the only gift he ever got from his father. He clings to this sword with his life. When the blade starts to glow a little, the family looks even shocked at him, wondering who he really is. Just as Alistair wants to go out, someone bangs on the door. "Open the door and surrender! or you all will be killed!" The soldier screams from the other side. "Sorry for your door. I will pay you after this." Alistair kicks the door with his boots and it flies to the other side of the road. The soldier is immediately death on impact. Blood drips on the floor. You can see the head is massacred by the impact. Other soldiers in green uniforms heard the slam or saw the soldier flying. They see Alistair walk out a house with a glowing sword. Some soldiers watch in disbelief. Other soldiers immediately attack Alistair. In one smooth move the soldiers collapsing death on the ground. The bodies lose immediately their colour and warmth. "too easy..." he sighs. Alistairs cleans his sword. it glows even more due to the blood and soul energy it consumed. "I hoped for a challenge." for a second the others stay frozen, but then charge at Alistair. Alistair readies his sword. Before he can hit them, fast light kills all of them. They drop dead on the ground. "Why can I never leave you alone." Alistair groans when he recognizes the scolding voice. "Everytime I look the other way you make a mess." "This wasn't my fault. They were plundering this village. I couldn't let them hurt any of them." Alistair clasp it back onto his back. Alistair turns around facing the man who has been Alistairs guardian since he was a little child. Alistair trusts this man with his life. "Álarick, I couldn't let them die. These villagers don't deserve it." Álarick Fraser crosses his arms. He is a big pale middle-age man with broad shoulders. He has short brown hair with a few grey hairlocks. His stubble beard is still completely brown. His brown eyes are fearless. Álarick wears a comfortable dark grey armour with black clothes under it. His sword hangs from his hip belt. Álaricks sword is almost as impressive as Alistair. It's a sharp two-legged sword but it doesn't have magic flowing in it. "You have luck that I found you in time. Webb will pass through this village in the morning. So we need to hide the bodies and leave before they come." Álarick crosses his arms, shaking his head and sighs annoyed. "Truly, one day I leave you alone to gather information on Webb and his people's movement and you make a mess." He pinches his nose. Alistair laughs with his best friends reaction. A little girl tugs on Alistairs cloak. Alistair looks down at a fragile little girl. She is the youngest of the family that helped him. "Sir, Thank you for saving us. You are a hero." Alistairs smile disappears from his face. "I'm not a her...." Álarick covers Alistairs mouth. "You are welcome, miss." Álarick smiles sweet at her and the girl starts blushing before running back to her mother. Just now the two men noticed that the whole village was looking at them in awe. "Fuck..." Alistairs mumbles. He quickly covers his head with his cloak to hide his red face. "Now they will recognise me everytime I come here. I'm f****d if they tell Webb." Álaricks looks calm and this infuriates Alistair even more. "Why are you smiling?!" He growls at his best friend and guardian. "Because you have no idea how good this is. If we can convince them to stay on our side then we have a shelter to hide when we need to..." Before Álarick could continues explaining. The father of the little girl approaches them. "I'm sorry to bother you, sirs. I overhead your conversation. We are on your side. We are sick of the tyrant ruling over us. He thinks we are toys! His soldiers r**e our woman and young children! If you promised to protect us. We will follow you into death!" His head held high. Other men and woman start cheering and agreeing with him. "We had enough of all the torture. We need to starve so they can become fat from our food!" Another man joins in. Alistair looks down...this is too soon. He can't lead these people...not like his father. Álarick lays a hand on Alistairs shoulder. "We appreciate it. We need your help in this." Alistair is thankful for Álarick his charisma. Alistair lacks this skill. "We will talk more in private with the heads of this village." Álarick gathers all the important people in the town while the father, named Frederick, guides Alistair to a big room in the village. Alistair is suprised that there is such a big and caredfor room in a decaying village like this.
