Chapter 18

1425 Words
Sabrina wipes away her tears and sadly smiles. "I'm sorry. The only thing I seem to do lately is cry. I finally found Jayden and all I seem to do is drive him away." Sabrina says as she starts crying again. Kason and Miguel become concerned. "Sabrina, go on inside to your bedroom. We can tell Brett about what happened with Jayden." Miguel says as he wipes away Sabrina’s tears. "Okay," Sabrina agrees. Sabrina walks into her house and to her bedroom. Miguel and Kason set down their book bags on the ground and turn their attention to Brett. "Sabrina told us about your encounter with her when you two first met. Would you at least hear us out on what happened these last few weeks?" Kason asks. "I'll at least give you the benefit of the doubt. But if I sense any lying, you're dead meat. Besides, I never thought Sabrina would permit you to know about her being a vampire." Brett says threateningly. "Well, a lot has happened in these last few weeks. It was her first day of school when we met. We had no idea that Sabrina was a vampire until she told us a week or two later. It took her some time to warm up to us before she told us about her story of how she became a vampire and how she met you. She told us that she was looking for a certain boy. Another vampire named Jayden. The person who turned her into a vampire. She told us that she wanted to tell him what she couldn't say on the day he left. We both knew from the way she talked about Jayden that she loved him.” Miguel explains. “Sabrina and I were on our way to our next class at school when she collapsed. She drank the last of her blood supply and was silently starving herself. I managed to bring her to the nurse's office and he automatically knew what to do. Sabrina didn’t want to drink my blood at first since it reminded her of unpleasant memories. But I was able to convince her to drink my blood before she went mad. The school nurse injected Sabrina with Juniper poison. Only enough to sedate her. He had no intention of killing Sabrina. A week goes by and Sabrina is back at school. But some stupid cheerleaders got under her skin and Sabrina almost blew her cover. One thing led to another and I asked Sabrina to turn me into a vampire. Of course, she refused, but I made a promise to her and I’m going to keep that promise no matter what. I want you to remember one thing. I chose to become a vampire. I wasn't forced to do anything. I guess you could say that meeting Sabrina has changed my life for the better." Kason explains as he recalls painful memories. A sad smile forms on Kason’s lips. "I was a good-for-nothing athlete trying to find a reason to live for. I was close to ending my own life at one point. It’s not something I like to talk about. I have so much to live for. Sabrina and Miguel are important to me. They’re my friends. I don't want to see them die like my sister. Yes, I did shed a glimmer of fear but not because of death. I don't fear death. I was scared that Sabrina and Miguel would be consumed by darkness if I died. After I awoke from the transition, all I could see was Sabrina crying. Just seeing her cry because of me is something I will never forgive myself for. As it turns out, the school nurse is also a vampire. Don't worry. He's one of our allies. He reached out to a friend of his and set me up with a daylight ring. Elias told me that Sabrina will blame herself for turning me into a vampire for the rest of her life. That's why I made a silent oath to myself that I would always protect Sabrina. It's especially true now that Jayden is in the picture." Kason says, continuing the explanation of the last four weeks. Brett looks at Kason and Miguel with surprise. "Sabrina found Jayden?" asks Brett. "Yes. Sabrina had an encounter with Jayden the other day. But their meeting didn't go too well. Jayden told her to stay away from him." Miguel says. "Why would he tell her to stay away from him? Something doesn't add up." Brett says in response. "You're damn right there's a problem!" Kason shouts out angrily. "Calm down. We've already been through this. If you let your emotions run your mind like that, they'll cloud your judgment." Miguel says to calm down Kason. "Sorry. Getting used to my new abilities as a vampire is still new to me. Anyway, Jayden is trying to protect Sabrina from the vampire who turned him. From what Jayden told me, Sabrina is a descendant of the oldest and most known vampire alive. Aka, her grandfather. As it turns out, Jayden’s Master is Sabrina’s uncle. Miguel and I have decided not to tell Sabrina about William Vaughan being her uncle just yet. It’s for the best that she doesn’t know right now. Though, I’m not looking forward to telling her this when the time is right. I know that I’m gonna get the crap beat out of me. The worst part of the situation is that Jayden is sired to the vampire who turned him. This guy wants to kill Sabrina and use her blood to activate a weapon he created to defeat her grandfather. That’s what we know so far." Kason says as he explains the whole situation to Brett. "So, who is the bastard that Jayden is sired to?" Brett asks. "William Vaughan. That's the bastard's name. Jayden agreed to watch over Sabrina in the shadows while Kason and I are with her. He knows that if he were by her side, he would only hurt Sabrina, in the end. That's why he's cutting all ties with her." says Miguel. "Jayden offered a piece of advice. A renegade Breaker lives near the Grand Canyon. He protects the towns surrounding the canyon. He owes Jayden a favor. If we go there and tell him that Jayden sent us, he'll more or less train us to fight against William Vaughan." Kason says as he looks at Miguel. "Anyway, we should take our leave for the day. Tell Sabrina that we'll see her tomorrow at school." Miguel says as he smiles. Miguel grabs Kason by the collar of his shirt and drags him away with their book bags. Brett watches as Miguel and Kason leave. Once they are out of sight, Brett uses a teleportation spell and appears in Sabrina's room. He sees her curled up on her bed, crying. He walks up to Sabrina and hugs her. "I'm sorry," Brett says as he embraces Sabrina. Several hours go by as Sabrina finally calms down. During that time, Sabrina looked deep into her heart and decided to tell her brothers about her being a vampire and her past with Jayden. She knows it’s risky. Allowing humans to know about vampires and other supernaturals is dangerous and could result in their death. "Brett, I've decided that I'm going to tell Leo and Jesse about me being a vampire. I swore that I wouldn't tell anyone about who I am. Especially now that I’ve turned Kason into a vampire. But I can't go on living unless Leo and Jesse know who I am. The real me. The part of me that I've kept locked up. My mom and Lunette must not know about this. My mom will worry about my safety and Lunette is still too young to understand the double life I live in. I’ll feel better knowing my two capable older brothers can protect our family." Sabrina says as she stares into Brett's eyes. "You know what's best for your family, Sabrina. You know better than anyone about what's out there in the shadows. But understand that there is always a chance that your family could be caught in the crossfire." Brett says, warning Sabrina. "I know. I've known that deep in my heart. All that matters now is to keep my family safe from William Vaughan." Sabrina says, still looking deep into Brett's eyes. "Leo, Jesse, can you come in here for a second? I need to talk to you." Sabrina calls out to her brothers.
