Chapter 15

1362 Words
Sabrina stands frozen in place from shock and sadness. She falls to the ground crying. Another part of her heart shattered into pieces. When Jayden gets far away enough, he starts crying. “I’m sorry. I never wanted to hurt you, Sabrina.” Jayden says through his sobs. Kason catches up to Jayden and pins him against the wall. "Hey, are you just going to walk away as if nothing happened? Sabrina has been searching for you all this time, and you have the nerve to tell her to stay away from you. She's loved you this entire time." Kason growls. "Don't you think I don't know that, you dumbass? I never wanted to hurt Sabrina like this, but it was the only way for me to protect her. I can't let my Master get his hands on her. If he finds Sabrina, it'll be all over." Jayden replies, shouting back at Kason. "Give me one good reason why I shouldn't beat you to a pulp. If I do that, I'm not sure if I can hold back. I still have no clue how to control my strength right now. I’ve only been a vampire for less than twenty-four hours. Why is your Master after Sabrina?" Kason asks, trying to get some information on what Jayden is hiding. Kason already knows that Jayden’s Master is after Sabrina, but he doesn’t understand why he’s after Sabrina’s life. There is a long silence until Jayden breaks the silence by speaking first. Jayden’s eyes fill with self-loathing and sadness. "My Master is the person who killed my entire family," Jayden explains. "Killed your entire family!" Kason shouts in disbelief. Kason had no idea that Jayden’s family was murdered by the person who turned him into a vampire. "Yes. My Master is an old and powerful vampire. He murdered my biological family. I saw him with my own eyes kill my little brother, my older sister, and my parents one by one. He purposely spared my life and turned me into the same monster that killed my family." says Jayden with his trembling voice. "My Master is Sabrina’s uncle. His older brother is Sabrina’s grandfather. He comes from a family of powerful, pureblood vampires. His older brother gained power unique to him alone and wanted to find a successor to pass on that power and lead the family for generations to come. My Master wants that power for himself and planned to kill his brother. But he had no idea his older brother had hidden this power where he couldn’t find it. They fought to the death and my Master was gravely injured. He disappeared without a trace until he found out about Sabrina’s existence. He created a weapon to kill his older brother and the only way for it to work is if he kills Sabrina and uses her blood to activate it. You see, Sabrina is a half-witch. This means that her abilities as both a vampire and witch are ultra-powerful. That’s why my Master wanted me to get close to Sabrina and gain her trust. But from the beginning, I never wanted to hurt Sabrina. She’s the one who saved me from utter darkness and saved my soul from shattering. That’s why I agreed to turn Sabrina into a vampire." Jayden says through his sobs, continuing his story. "The worst part is knowing that I'm sired to that bastard I call my Master," says Jayden as he wipes away his tears. "Sired?" Kason asks in confusion. This is the first time Kason has heard of the term. "It's extremely rare. But vampires can sire any newborn vampire they create. Once a newborn vampire is sired to the vampire who turned them, they can never disobey them. If they do, it will end in death. Only the most powerful witches and warlocks can break the sire. If my Master finds out that Sabrina is here in Fairfield, he’ll stop at nothing to get her in his grasp. You have to keep Sabrina safe. I'm begging you. I couldn't bear it if I had to kill her with my own hands. I wouldn't be able to forgive myself." says Jayden with frustration and sadness in his voice. Seeing the frustration and sadness in Jayden's eyes, Kason lets go of him and stands there. He looks straight into Jayden's eyes with determination. "I don't care if I'm a vampire. Honestly, seeing Sabrina almost switch off her humanity scared me. Her eyes were devoid of emotion and I never want to see that again. Sabrina is like a little sister to me. I already lost someone important to me. I'm a genuine fool. I guess I still can't accept that my sister was killed right before my eyes." says Kason as he sadly smiles at Jayden. "Your sister was killed?" asks Jayden curiously. "Yeah. My sister was on her way home from cheer practice the night she was killed. I met up with her halfway at the pub. Rumors were going on that a wolf was attacking people at night. That wolf attacked my sister and killed her right before my eyes." Kason says as he recalls painful memories. From what Kason just explained, Jayden knows that it was a werewolf that killed his sister. "I see. So a werewolf killed your sister," replied Jayden. "Werewolf? You mean there are actual werewolves?" Kason asks in shock. "Yes. A werewolf must've felt threatened and started attacking people." Jayden replies. Kason clenches his hands into fists and grits his teeth in anger. "Damn it! Now that I know the truth, if I ever find the werewolf that killed my sister, I swear to hell, they will pay." Kason declares with anger in his voice. Kason’s eyes glow bright gray and he realizes that he needs to calm down. He takes a few deep breaths and once his anger subsides, Kason's eyes return to normal. "Sabrina and Miguel are important to me. They’re my friends. When I turned into a vampire, I vowed to myself that I would protect them both." Kason states. Jayden faintly smiles. "Thank you for being Sabrina’s friends. If you want to train for the upcoming battles, go to the abandoned cabin on the edge of the Grand Canyon. A Breaker who became a renegade lives there, protecting the small towns surrounding the canyon. He doesn't like to be around humans, especially vampires. He owes me a favor. So, when you meet him, tell him I sent you to him. He'll train you and your friend Miguel to defend against other supernatural enemies. And I'm sure Sabrina will help you with your thirst for human blood. He's a pain in the ass, but he's strong. If he had it his way, he would've killed me by now if it weren't for the favor he owes me. Oh, if you’re wondering what a Breaker is, they are a higher version of hunters. Breakers have a deeper understanding of the supernatural and have a deeper connection with their chosen hunter partners. You’ll understand more once you meet him." Jayden says, giving Kason some sense of what the future could hold for him and his friends. Jayden decides to take this chance and talk about his feelings for Sabrina even though he can never have her heart. "I love Sabrina. I have ever since I met her at the orphanage. But I know full well that our love was never meant to be. I'll hurt Sabrina even more than I already have if I stay by her side. So I'm asking you to protect her and be by her side?" Jayden asks Kason for this one last request. "You don't have to ask me to protect Sabrina. I promised her I would never abandon her. In that regard, I will never forgive you. But I do know that you care about Sabrina, and you gave me some peace of mind about my sister’s death. For that, I thank you. But at least watch over Sabrina from the shadows? That will mean the world to her." says Kason, giving Jayden a wry smile. "Alright," replies Jayden, agreeing to Kason's request.
