Chapter 13

Sabrina has just one question. How does Elias know that she is a vampire? She never told him.

"Anyway, how do you know about me being a vampire?" asks Sabrina.

"I sensed it. As soon as you bumped into me that one time while you were trying to meet up with your friends, I could smell your scent. I'm a vampire myself. I knew once you had turned your friend into a vampire, your emotions would become unstable. Besides, when your friend offered his blood for you to drink, you readily refused. I’ve never met a vampire who has such morals as you do. You must've been through a lot to have such morals." says Elias.

"I ran out of my blood supply at home. I don’t particularly appreciate hunting for animals in the woods. My family has been busy unpacking our belongings in our new home. So, I haven't exactly had the time to hunt for blood at the local clinic and hospital. Anyway, can I see Kason?" asks Sabrina.

"Sure. He should wake up soon. He's just down the hall to your left." replies Elias.

Sabrina gets up off the couch but falls back onto it.

She forces herself to smile.

"I guess I'm still too weak from the Juniper poison. The fever has already passed, but my body is still recovering," says Sabrina with a forced smile.

"I'll help you up," says Elias as he stands up and walks over to Sabrina. He helps her up to her feet.

"Thanks,” replies Sabrina.

Elias leads Sabrina to Kason's bedroom and helps her sit in a chair next to the bed. When Sabrina sees Kason sleeping on the bed, she starts crying again.

"I'm sorry, Kason. I didn't mean for this to happen. I never should've gotten you and Miguel involved in this world of darkness. This life will only bring you sadness and pain." says Sabrina as tears drop onto Kason’s cheek.

Kason weakly opens his eyes and puts his hand on Sabrina's cheek. He wipes away Sabrina’s tears.

"Don't cry… I told you that this fool didn't want to see another friend die," says Kason as he starts to wake up.

"You're awake…!" Sabrina shouts in surprise.

"Of course I am, you dummy. None of this is your fault, Sabrina. Miguel and I chose to be a part of your life. I chose to become a vampire. I know you have doubts about your future, and you’ve been searching for Jayden all alone this entire time. Miguel and I will never abandon you. Never forget that. And don’t go thinking about dying on me. Otherwise, me becoming a vampire would be for nothing." states Kason.

Sabrina never thought she would hear those words. Since becoming a vampire, Sabrina has blamed herself for hurting Jayden, for not protecting Brett, and for everything she’s done up until now. She’s always wanted somewhere to call home and she’s finally found it. She has always wanted someone to tell her that they would never abandon her. Now, that wish has come true.

"You should get some more rest. Now that you're a vampire, there are many things I need to teach you," says Sabrina as she wipes away her tears.

Sabrina takes Kason's hand and holds it in her hands.

"Alright," says Kason as he falls back asleep.

Sabrina sits beside the bed, holding Kason's hand and crying again. Elias leaves the room and does his own thing in his bedroom while Holly returns from picking herbs and retires to her room to brew her potions. Eventually, Sabrina leaves Kason’s side to take a shower. Holly leaves some of her clothes in front of the bathroom for Sabrina to wear after her shower. After her shower, Sabrina changes into the clothes Holly lent her and returns to Kason’s side. Holly sneaks by the bedroom and casts a sleeping charm on Sabrina to allow her to get some rest. Hours later, Kason finally wakes up and feels much better. By then, it’s nearly dawn and he sees Sabrina sleeping even though vampires don’t sleep.

"Are you feeling better?" asks Elias as he leans in the bedroom entryway.

Kason looks over to the door and sees Elias leaning in the doorway.

"Yeah. I'm feeling fine," replies Kason.

"There's a lot of stuff you need to learn now that you're a vampire. But most of all, be there for Sabrina. She'll most likely feel responsible for turning you into a vampire for the rest of her life." Elias says, making sure Kason will look after Sabrina. He knows that Sabrina has been through a lot in her life.

"I'll be there for her. No matter what." Kason declares.

"My name is Elias, if you're wondering. It’s nearly dawn. You and Sabrina should go home. I’m sure you’ll give your parents a good explanation of your whereabouts. My friend Holly cast a sleeping charm on Sabrina. She’ll wake any minute now." says Elias.

"Okay," Kason says, agreeing with Elias.

Kason catches the ring and piece of paper and looks at Elias in confusion.

"Take it. It's your daylight ring. Make sure not to lose it. I'm sure you'll do fine as a vampire. Seeing that determination and kindness in your eyes reminds me of myself. Just be careful from now on. You live a different life now. That piece of paper has a map drawn on it. It will help you get back into town." Elias says.

Kason puts the ring on his finger and watches over Sabrina until she wakes up. An hour passes by and Sabrina wakes up.

"Morning, sleepyhead," Kason says with a smile.

Sabrina rubs her sleepy eyes with her hands and sees Kason sitting up in bed.

"Kason, you're awake. When did you wake up?" asked Sabrina.

"I’ve been awake for a while now," Kason replies.

Sabrina looks at Kason with guilt and starts tearing up.

"Come on, don't look at me like that. I told you to stop blaming yourself." Kason says once again.

"I'm sorry," Sabrina says once again.

"I told you to stop crying already. Don't worry. I'm fine. There's nothing to be sorry for." Kason says, comforting Sabrina.

"You two better get up. Your parents are probably worried about you." Elias shouts from the living room.

"Coming!" Both Sabrina and Kason say in unison.

Kason and Sabrina both get up and walk into the living room. They see Elias sitting on the couch.

"I know that a lot has happened in the last few hours, but you’ve got to get home. I don’t want to be on the receiving end of angry parents." Elias says, standing up.

"Kay," Kason replies.

Sabrina and Kason say goodbye to Elias and follow the map back into town. They go their separate ways and get a good scolding from their parents. Kason and Sabrina meet halfway to school and walk to school while trying to figure out how to tell Miguel that Kason is now a vampire. Kason and Sabrina get to school and are now in the courtyard with Miguel for lunch. On the roof of the school building, Jayden is listening in on their conversation. He can sense that Kason is now a vampire.

"Can it be you, Sabrina?" Jayden asks himself as he watches Sabrina and her friends from the shadows.

Miguel looks at his friends in shock.

"What do you mean you turned Kason into a vampire?" Miguel shouts in surprise and anger.

"Don't be mad at her, Miguel. Sabrina was only doing what I asked her," explains Kason, trying to calm down Miguel.

"A few cheerleaders got under my skin and I almost transformed into my vampire form in front of them. Thanks to Kason, I didn’t reveal my vampire form to humans. He brought me to Elias’s office, the school nurse, by the way, to calm down and that’s when Kason asked me to turn him into a vampire. I refused right away, but in the end, he convinced me to turn him into a vampire." Sabrina says, explaining the situation.
