Sabrina looks at Kason in her vampire form.
“Are you sure about this? You’ll never have a normal human life.” Sabrina asks.
“You’re like a sister to me, Sabrina. I care about you and want to protect you. I know we haven’t been friends long, but I’ve never been happier than I am right now. So please, allow me to protect you.” Kason replies as he confidently smiles at Sabrina.
“Alright,” replies Sabrina.
Sabrina pulls Kason close and bites his neck. Several minutes go by and all you can hear are the sounds of Sabrina drinking Kason’s blood. Elias watches silently, ready to help if Kason finds the transition too unbearable. Kason's heartbeat becomes faint and Sabrina stops drinking his blood. Sabrina sees Kason smile and put his hand on her cheek.
"Don't hold back, Sabrina… As long as I'm with you, then it's okay." Kason says as he goes in and out of consciousness.
Sabrina stops drinking Kason’s blood and backs her head away. She cuts her neck and blood starts forming. It’s an offering to Kason. Kason accepts Sabrina's offer and drinks the blood from her neck. As Kason drinks, Sabrina's blood flows through every vein in his body. His eyes change to a bright grey color. The pain from the vampire fangs growing inside Kason's mouth becomes unbearable and he screams in pain. The school nurse puts up a barrier around Sabrina and Kason so that other people in the building can’t hear what is going on in the room. Making barriers is one of his powers as a vampire. Several more minutes go by and all is quiet. Kason has completed the transition. His eyes turn back to normal and his fangs disappear. Kason falls on top of Sabrina after he passes out.
Elias looks at Sabrina and Kason in exasperation.
"Well, this is unexpected. I didn't think you would agree to turn your friend into a vampire.” Elias says as he stands up from his desk.
Sabrina sadly smiles at Elias.
“I’m surprised as well. Ever since I became a vampire, I vowed to myself that I would never turn a human into a vampire. Now, I have, and it feels unbearable because I know his life has been forever changed because of me.” Sabrina replies as she starts crying again.
Elias walks up to Sabrina and ruffles her hair.
“You must have strong willpower to restrain yourself from feeding on humans. I don’t know what happened in your past, but I can tell that you care very much about your friends and don’t want to hurt humans. Now that your friend is a vampire, he’ll be unstable when he wakes up. I’ll call a friend of mine and she’ll teleport you to my house. Rest in here for now, and I’ll let your teacher know you’re in the nurse’s office,” says Elias, smiling gently at Sabrina.
“Okay. And thank you for saying that,” replies Sabrina with a weak smile.
Elias called Sabrina’s and Kason's teachers and told them their students were resting in the nurse's office for a while. Once school is over for the day, Elias takes out his phone and dials Holly’s number. The person he calls answers on the third ring.
"Yeah. What?" the person says, irritated.
"Holly, it's me. I need to ask you a favor. Could you charm a daylight ring for me? There's a newbie vampire who needs one," Elias says on the phone.
"Did you go off and turn another kid, you lazy ass?" Holly says through the phone.
"Don't call me a lazy ass, you little brat! I need you to teleport two vampires to the house. There was a little incident at the school and the little vampire I told you about decided to lose control and agreed to turn her friend into a vampire after he eventually convinced her to do it. Not that it's a hassle. The kid wanted to be turned into a vampire, so, in the end, he survived the transformation. He'll be needing a daylight ring." retorts the nurse.
"Fine. But you owe me three weeks of Callie's grilled steak from the café." says Holly.
"It's a deal," Elias says and ends the call.
A few minutes pass when a blue light appears in the nurse’s office. Within the blue light, Holly appears. The blue light disappears and Holly looks over to Elias and then over to Sabrina and an unconscious Kason. Holly takes a moment to look around the room and decides to tease Elias a little bit.
“So this is the puny school you work at? There’s nothing much to look at.” Holly says as she laughs at Elias.
Elias glares at Holly and Sabrina giggles at Holly’s remark.
“Yes, Holly, this is the school I work at. And this school has a name, you know. It’s Fairfield Preparatory Academy. And the school mascot is Fairfield Warriors.” Elias says as he grumbles.
Holly starts laughing.
“Hahaha! I’m just kidding. Can’t you take a joke for once?” Holly says as she catches her breath from laughing so hard.
“Let’s get to the point already. Can you teleport the girl and boy?” Elias asks as he points over to Sabrina and Kason.
“Sure thing. I’ve already enchanted a daylight ring for the boy. It’s on the kitchen counter at the house.” replies Holly as she smiles.
Holly teleports Sabrina and Kason to Elias’s house on the outskirts of town. She also teleports Kason to one of the spare rooms down the hallway. Holly turns her attention to Sabrina.
“Elias will be home shortly. Your friend is resting in one of the spare rooms. You can rest on the couch over there in the living room. I’m going out into the woods to pick herbs for my potions.” Holly says as she points over to the couch.
“Okay,” replies Sabrina.
Holly again teleports to the woods to pick herbs. Sabrina walks over to the couch in the living room and plops herself on it. She covers herself with the folded-up blanket that’s on the back of the couch. She waits for Elias to get home. A few hours later, Elias returns home and sees Sabrina curled up on the couch. He saunters over to the chair across from the couch and sits in it. Sabrina looks over to Elias and faintly smiles.
“Thank you for being there when I turned Kason into a vampire,” Sabrina says.
“I didn’t do anything,” replies Elias.
"Who are you?" Sabrina asks.
“Elias McCray is my name," Elias says as he introduces himself.
Sabrina doesn't hear any lies in Elias’s voice and decides to introduce herself after a long silence.
“I’m Sabrina Abrams. My family and I just moved here to Fairfield from Phoenix,” replies Sabrina.
Sabrina thinks about what happened in the nurse's office and starts crying. Even though she agreed to turn Kason into a vampire, she still regrets it. She knows that she has changed Kason’s life forever.
"I… turned Kason into a vampire. This is all my fault. I shouldn't have involved Kason and Miguel in this dangerous world. They could get killed. Kason is never going to forgive me. I just know it. He'll never forgive me." Sabrina says, crying.
Elias gently smiles at Sabrina to reassure her.
"It's not your fault. Kason is willing to sacrifice his life to save you. That’s what friends are for. Besides, you did agree to turn him into a vampire. You must take responsibility and look out for Kason. He'll need you now more than ever. It must've been tough for you. You've found a good friend to take care of you. Just remember, Kason's life is forever changed, and you must teach him how vampires live until that debt has been paid." Elias says as he gives Sabrina another reassuring smile.
