On the way to Mary's house, I kept thinking about what Asher had said back at the morgue. If guilt was making it seem like I was ignoring my boys, then I was feeling even worse now. There were two reasons why I ran to be with Joy. I had already explained the first one to Asher. Two, while I had more time left with Joe and Jayden, this was it for me and Joy. After that, I wouldn't get to see her or even hold her in my arms, so I was milking every minute of it.
"Are you going to come in or will you keep standing there?" I nearly jumped up in fright when I heard Mary's voice. I couldn't even remember getting here, to be honest. She went back inside before closing the door behind her. I must have been standing out here for a while for her to come out.
