Gigi
Standing in front of the mirror, I take one at myself before the door of the room knocks twice. I allow the person to enter and it is Roger who approaches me with a gentle smile on his face. “What do you think, Roger?” With a deep sigh, I turn to look at him, watching the expressions on his face changing swiftly.
You look amazing,” he carefully says and biting my bottom lip, I nervously ask, “Are you sure? What if I can’t handle everything at the party?” he scoffs casually before he assures me that everything is going to be just fine. “Perhaps I am just exaggerating.” shrugging my shoulders, I take my clutch as both Roger and I exit the room. Sitting in the car after instructing the nurse Natalie to look after my mom, I am now relaxed that someone is there to look after her.
Soon the car stops outside a grand gateway where many cars are parked accordingly. People are getting inside, dressed in expensive clothes and jewels. Roger helps me get out of the car and both of us make our way to the entrance where the host of the party is standing with a smile plastering on his face. “Welcome, The Knights -” he approaches me, placing a soft kiss on my cheek and finding it awkward. I don't flinch, reminding myself whatever Roger explained to me.
Forcing a smile, I utter, “thank you for inviting us,” and in return he flirts in my direction, “of course, this party without a pretty girl like you would be incomplete.” I step inside the grand party, looking around and I find luxury and wealth in every corner. The clinking of the champagne glasses, the soft laughing of the women and the lively chatter of the men along with the soft background music gives me the uneasy vibes. I have this feeling that something might be wrong, however there is nothing I can do but to enjoy the party.
My mind is alerted and Roger stays by my side just in case. He leaves for a moment, excusing himself finding someone familiar and I am left alone. The wealthy men also appear as danger and a waiter arrives with the glasses of champagne for me, informing me that Jade Jenkins has especially sent these for me. Roger’s words carefully come across my mind that I cannot refuse directly.
With a smile, I take the glass from the tray and turn to look at Jade Jenkins, raising my glass for a toast. He gives me a single nod, the playful grin plasters on his face. As I turn around, the smile abruptly changes into a scorn. Clenching the glass in my hand, I am thinking of ways to get rid of the drink which might be spiked.
By the time Roger has arrived I have already placed the glass in one corner without anyone watching it. “What is it?” he inquires, sensing the tension on my face and I inform him everything and he just nods. “This is one of their tricks. You have to be extra careful tonight, Miss Genevive.” The couples begin their slow dance as the lights are dimmed by now and the soft music plays in the background.
Jade approaches me, insisting on me for a dance. “But I don't know -” I try to throw away his offer, however after he forces me to do it, I give in. walking onto the dancefloor with him, I see Roger is prepared with his pistol which is set between his pants. Jade diverts my attention towards him, his hand slowly caressing my bare back as the dress I am wearing is backless. “Do you know you are the first woman I have ever approached for a dance?”
My mind unexpectedly takes me to a flashback where my stalker became aggressive with me for talking to someone else. He is might as possessive however ever since Alex disappeared he hasn’t showed up. With a deep sigh, I coarsely answer, “Well, this too shall pass.” He laughs at my face, his chuckle gives me the idea that I have cracked the funniest joke in history.
“You know, I like your sarcasm -” he says, after a brief pause, he inquires, “And I haven’t catched your name yet.” I take no time before I express with uncertainty, “Alex Knight doesn’t pay me to do that. However there is a name that you may call me…cupid.” a wide smile crosses his lips as I gaze right into his piercing green eyes, “Cupid, huh? Impressive -”
The dance comes to an end and I walk back to Roger who inquires about whatever I have discussed with Jade Jenkins. “Well, I told him my name…” Right after I finish speaking, Roger’s face turns pale and before he parts his lips to speak, I immediately add, “Its Cupid.” frowning in confusion, he murmurs my name under his breath and I tell him to leave. We walk back into the car and a few men are waiting for us in the parking lot.
All are dressed in black suits, tall and muscular men and I realise that the security we carry is not enough for our protection. “Are we in trouble?” I whisper to Roger who doesn't respond right away until he approaches the men, asking, “What is it you want?” the tension between both the parties starting to rise and at this point, I am scared if I safely make it out of here.
One of the men from the opposite party pulls the trigger and our driver is shot dead on the floor. My eyes are wide with fear, my heart palpating into my chest. Roger turns to look at me, mouthing for me to run. Without looking back I start to run as the sound of gunshots echoes around me. In this long dress, I continue to race on the dark road with a few men chasing me.
Within a moment I bring out the heels from my feet, throwing them in their direction until they appear closer and closer to me.
