Chapter 3

686 Words
Hours later, Ara and her parents were walking down the street after a filling meal. They were excited about the movie, it was supposed to be really good. When they walked by a dark alley, a noise caught Ara's attention. She could hear the crying and whimpering of a young child, then the echo of sick laughter. Ara and her parents looked at each other and then peered down the alley. To their horror, there were two men and a woman torturing a young child, his dead parents at their feet. The boy was no older than maybe three or four. His yellow glowing pain glazed eyes met Ara's and she knew that she couldn't just walk away. Ara and her parents moved as one, using their vampire speed to attack the trio. They knew that the hunters would put up a hell of a fight, they were using silver weapons. Ara grabbed the woman and ripped her head clean off her shoulders. She reached down and grabbed a hold of the child. He seemed afraid so she revealed her glowing silver eyes to him, showing him she was supernatural like him. The two men were harder to take down and before long, they were overpowering Ara's parents with silver. " Darling run! Take the boy and get the hell out of here!" Ailsa half yelled, half hissed. With tears in her eyes, Ara mouthed,' I love you' and then took off, the boy curled protectively against her chest. Ara instinctively knew that she would never see her parents again. Ara raced home. She made sure that the boy's face was away from the wind so that he could still breathe. Tears poured from her eyes as she shut and locked the door behind her. She kept seeing the looks on her parent's faces right before they were killed. Ara had never thought she would ever be without her parents. They had lived together for a thousand years. Ara looked down at the little boy in her arms. He was so small, no older than maybe two. She walked into her room and lay him down on her bed. He was covered in bruises, cuts and burns and each one made her flinch. Ara inspected each wound before cleaning it. Ara sighed when she came to the really nasty one. It was big and very deep, possibly fatal. She only had two options, she could take him to a hospital and risk him getting caught again or she could give him some of her blood to speed the healing. Ara walked into her bathroom and splashed some cold water on her face. She was a vampire so she had no idea how her blood would affect a werewolf but on the other hand she couldn't take him to a hospital; he would be in danger there and she felt a bond to this boy. Sighing, she walked back into the room and kneeled down beside him. " Okay little one, this wound is really bad and if I don't give you blood to heal it, you'll die okay?" she asked, wanting to know that he understood her. The boy nodded at her." I'm Wyatt" he whispered. Ara nodded at him, tears filling her eyes. She bit into her wrist and offered it to him. Wyatt didn't hesitate to drink from her and it showed Ara just how much Wyatt trusted her. He whimpered when his wounds began to heal and then cried for a while afterwards. Ara lied down on the bed beside Wyatt and he fell asleep curled into her side. " It's okay Wyatt. I will take care of you" she said. While Wyatt slept peacefully, Ara packed a bag and then grabbed her wallet. The hunters hadn't known who she was but she was sure it wouldn't take them long to find out and so, that meant that she and Wyatt could not stay in her loft. They were no longer safe there and so very gently Ara picked up the sleeping Wyatt, grabbed her bag and wallet and disappeared into the night.
