Chapter 14

I feel like it is too quiet. No one has spoken for a while and nothing has happened. I know we are nearing midnight, which worries me as to why nothing has happened for a while. I cringed as I breathed deeply, causing my ribs to throb. "Jamie, do you want to rest?"     "I'm fine, Harry." I replied. "I am just thinking about how messed up this all is. Normal kids grow up thinking that all this is fake. I grew up knowing that it's real and I have to protect myself from it. I didn't think it would be like this, but hey, life gives what it gives."     "You sound negative and then go positive. I've said it one to many times, but I will say it again, you are confusing and odd." He stated.     "Says the one who became protective of me from the moment this all began." I pointed out.     "In my defense, I, myself, don't even understand that. It was like a pull since I met you. You don't think it's because of the ritual, do you?"  He asked, concern masking his voice.        "Personally, I don't think so. It is possible to become protective of someone right away, even if it is the first time meeting them. My grandpa said that is how his parents relationship began. Although, apparently his mom tried killing his dad for messing up a date. They started dating three years. They died together happily."     "You have an odd family." Harry declared.     "Can't argue with that one." I laughed. "My family has always been o-I don't want to die!" I yelled as I fell through a hole. I landed on my back and felt something break. I gasped in pain, while gasping for air.     "James! Are you okay?" Harry shouted. I groaned in response. "Don't move, I'm coming down!" I listened as Harry jumped down and landed beside me. He shined the light around us. "It appears to be an old tunneling system."     "That's cool. Help me up please." Harry gave me his hand and pulled me up. I flinched as a sharp pain shot through my side. "I'm not sure what, but I am pretty sure I broke something else."     "Okay...looks like luck really isn't on your side on this day." Harry said.     "Are you two okay?" Livy shouted down to us.     "Yep, we found a tunneling system. Looks like it is going towards the way we need. Come down here if you want. Might be safer." Harry explained.     "Anything that has connection to this isn't safe." I muttered. Harry gave a huff of laughter.     The others joined us moments later in the tunneling system. "This gives off a creepy vibe." Kiley said.     Harry led the way through the tunnels while keeping an eye on the compass. I did my best to keep walking, but pain enveloped my senses. I stumbled before falling against the wall. I squeaked as pain sharpened it's way through me. "Whoa there." Emit said. "Just sit."     "Do I have a choice to die yet?" I whined.     "Not any time soon. Where does it hurt at?" Harry asked.     "I don't know, everywhere I guess." I answered. "It's throwing me off. Just give me a few and I will be ready to walk again."     "I don't think we are going to have that luxury." Kiley pointed out. Looking at her, she had paled slightly and is looking to the left with her flashlight pointing that way. We all looked in that direction.     "Ha, ha, nope!" Harry laughed nervously. He scooped me up in his arms and took off running.      "Harry, you can't out run this!" Emit shouted.     "Watch me, b***h!" Harry shouted back. I would have snickered if I hadn't seen the three of them get pulled into the darkness, followed by a disgruntled laugh. "Okay, I am so going to need therapy after today."     "You and me both." I responded. I listened as the thundering of steps followed us through the tunnels. If it is possible, it appears that the tunnels have gotten darker and that the light from the flashlights are going out. "We are going to die."     "Shut up, James." Harry ran faster.     "Don't you remember my plan?" I asked.     "Oh, I remember it, doesn't mean I have to let that bloody demon catch us!" He exclaimed.     "True enough." I looked over his shoulder, but saw nothing. The only way that we know we are being followed is because the sound of the footsteps.     Harry suddenly stopped. "We have an issue. Which way to we go?" I looked and saw two tunnels. "James?"     "Right, go right!" I shouted. He sprinted into the tunnel. A roar of anger echoed through the tunnel. "Hide behind that rock. There is no way we are going to out run this thing." Harry rushed behind a rock as our lights died out. "Just in time." He didn't respond due to the lack of air.         We fell silent as we heard the footsteps run by us. Another roar of anger echoed through the tunnels, dangerously close to us. I fingered the knife that I have hidden in my boot, but I know it won't due much good for any of us.     Silence filled the tunnels. No voices, no roaring, or the sounds of feet pounding on the ground. "James, what do we do now?" Harry whispered.     "I have no clue." I whispered back. I shifted in my spot before freezing. Beneath me, the ground is becoming wet and sticky. "The ground is getting wet, Harry. Try turning out the flashlight." Harry banged the flashlight in his hand a couple of times before it turned on. He shined the light on my hands. I looked at my hands in horror. Blood covered them, confusing me all the more.     Harry shined the light around us. "The blood is coming through the walls and coming up from the ground. This is getting more and more messed up as we go. This makes no f*****g sense." Harry exclaimed.     "I think it's time that we start running again." I said.     "I agree." Harry and I started running. Even though I am in a lot of pain, my determination out did the pain.      Harry let out a gasp, which was followed a thump. Turning around, I saw that his right half of his leg has gotten stuck in the ground. "Okay, I can handle demons, ghost, and several other things, but having my leg being pulled into a bloody pit of blood and mud is something that I refuse to handle!" Harry exclaimed angerly.     "I will try and pull you out." I rushed over to him and grabbed his arms. I pulled put it didn't seem to work.     "I think I just went down even more." Harry whined. His eyes held panic as he tried to get his leg out. Our eyes widen as his left leg went through the ground. I cringed at the sucking sound. "James, you need to run!"     "I am not leaving you!" I insisted.      "Listen to me, James. It's me then it's going to be you. Run. Run and don't look back!" Harry urged. I looked at him, pained at the thought of going through this alone. He then began to sink through the ground some more. The stench of blood getting worse. "Run." So I did.
