Chapter 12

"Anyone else feel like we are being watched?" Kiley asked.      "I'd imagine we are." Harry replied. Annoyance filled his voice. "Now stop asking that question, it's getting really annoying."     "I'm sorry, I'm worried about my life! James killed Edward, so how do you want me to feel?" Kiley snapped.     "You seriously have no clue when to shut up, don't you?" Harry snapped. "James, how far do you think we are from the mansion?"     "Not as far as I would like to be. I'm going to climb the tree and take a look. Bella, give me your belt." Bella took off her belt and handed it to me. The belt barely fit around the tree as I wrapped the leather around the trunk.     I climbed up the tree carefully. Once I was close enough to the branches, I began to use those to help me up to the top. I looked down. The others looked like little ants. I snickered. Now I know why Uncle Jim likes to climb trees/     I looked over the tree stops. I spotted the mansion, that is now a great distance away. "On a much brighter note, we will never see that place again. Thank God for that one. Should probably hire someone to knock that thing down."     I made it safely back to the ground after ten minutes. "Well, the good news is we are miles away from the mansion. The bad news, way too much land to walk. I couldn't see the river from about. I did see smoke. I think they are preparing for the ritual. We need to pick up our pace. The smoke is about twenty miles from us to our west. With luck, we can stay clear of any danger for the next hour." I explained.     "The chances of all of us making it out alive is very slim." Livy pointed out.     "I know." I replied. "I just don't care. Some of us will be condemned to hell for entreaty and some of us will make it out alive and live a fulfilled life, hopefully forgetting about this place."     "Let's get moving then. I don't want to be here any longer than what we have to. Anybody have any funny stories to tell to keep the silence away?" Harry asked.     "I do. When I went to Sunday school with my grandpa, this little boy wouldn't leave me alone. Grandpa was talking to his dad. Uncle Jim went to do something. I was left to watch over Uncle Jim's Bible, not that I had a problem with it of course. When grandpa turned away, the little boy grabbed my hair and yanked rather hard. My reaction was taking Uncle Jim's Bible and whacking the boy over the head with it." Harry laughed.     "What did grandpa do to that one?" Bella asked.     "He looked at me with a raised brow and questioned what I did. My response, Jesus told me to protect myself from the little demon. My grandpa burst out laughing and the little boy and his dad never came near me again." I laughed.     "Wow, talk about hitting someone with the word of God." Emit laughed out.      "That's what grandpa said. Of course he told me to never do it again, I didn't listen though. I did it twice in middle school. Got detention from two teachers for a month. A bit excessive, but it was worth it," I said.     A low, deep growl came from in front of me. I paused. "Jamie?" Harry whispered.      "Demon is here." I responded.     "Well, looks like someone else may be dying soon. Sure as hell isn't going to be you."     "Ah, Harry, you're so sweet. You're showing you have a heart." I joked. He hit me lightly, earning a laugh from me.      The growl came again, only louder this time and much closer. "Oh my God, that is ugly." Turning to where the growling didn't stop, I had to hold in a laugh. "Jamie?" Harry questioned.     "That thing is so ugly, I don't even know whether to laugh or cry. Should I do both?" I asked, amusement leaked into my voice. I shined the flashlight on the demon. "Never mind, I know what do."     "What? Laugh? Yeah, you can do that later. GET DOWN!" Harry jumped at me, knocking me to the ground.     "I think I just swallowed a mouthful of dirt." I whined.     "I just saved your ass, be happy it was only dirt." Harry grumbled. I patted his head. "Should we run?"     "Nah, I got a better idea." I answered. "The power of God my friend, the power of God."     "I'M TOO YOUNG AND PRETTY TO DIE!" Kiley screamed.     "Why is that right out of a horror movie?" I asked     "Because it is." Harry growled.     The demon swiped at us, barely catching Emit as he ducked. "HEY DEMON, LOOK AT ME! FRESH MEET!" I screamed. The demon paused in its hunt of going after Emit. It looked at me and snarled. "Oh, it's a lot bigger up close."     "James, run!" Harry shouted.     "Don't have to tell me twice." I ran. The ground moved as the demon came after me. "Why did I think this was a brilliant idea?"      I tripped over a tree root and landed on my stomach. "Oh, that's going to leave bruises." I whined.     I looked up as the demon came upon me. The demon reached out to me, a gleeful smile gracing it's features. "Oi, you are even more ugly as you smile." I stated. The demon touched my leg before letting out a pained screech. It quickly pulled away, holding it's hand. The hand has smoke coming off of it. "So, that's why Uncle Jim wanted me to drink the holy water. The demons can't touch me."     "James, get up and whack the thing!" Harry shouted.          "What do you want me to whack it with?" I shouted back. I heard him groan. "Oh...never mind! Can you toss me the Bible?" Harry tossed me the Bible as I stood up. The demon growled and looked at me with pure hatred. "THE POWER OF CHRIST COMPELLS YOU DEMON!" I screamed. The demon was too tall to hit it on the head, so I hit it in the shoulder instead. The demon let out a screech of pain and hissed at me. I grinned. "DIE BASTARD, DIE!" I continued to whack the thing with the Bible. It only seemed to anger the demon. The demon swung at me, throwing me back into a tree. I felt three ribs break.         "James, are you okay?" Harry asked as he knelt beside me. I groaned in response. "Jamie, where does it hurt?"     "I broke three ribs and probably cracked a few. Oh, that is a feeling I never want to experience ever again. On a munch brighter note, it can't exactly touch us without burning itself. Drinking the holy water gave us some protection." I said.     "You are odd. Any other person would be crying with your injuries!" Harry exclaimed. I grinned sheepishly. "I would also like to point out that you are extremely insane. You just kept hitting the demon with a crazed look in your eyes."     "Worth it." I said. Bella let out scream that reminded me of a banshee. Looking up, Harry and I witnessed Bella being grabbed by the demon and disappearing into the darkness of hell. "Damn, you know, if we make it out alive, we are so going into hiding and changing our names so no one finds us."     "Seriously, that is your reaction to never seeing your sister again?" Harry said with a puzzled expression. "Again, you are insane."
