"What do we do now? Splitting up is clearly going to be a bad idea." Susan said. Bella glared at her for stating the obvious. Bella looked at my hands again. Harry gave her some of the torn sheet he cut before we left. Bella wrapped both of my hands.
"If you would follow me back to the mansion, that will be better for you all." Fear coursed through me as Edwin appeared. Harry growled.
"We don't have a choice guys. Our van is destroyed." Edward said. He gave Harry a look. Harry scowled but agreed. I shifted and look back at the van. "James?" I crawled through the window and shifted through the back that I had left in the van. I found the crucifix my grandfather had given me the night he died. I quickly put it on and left the van once more.
Edwin scowled but said nothing. "Why do they want James? Who wants James? She is only fourteen and has done nothing wrong." Bella questioned as she pulled me close to her.
"She is innocent. Her innocence is what draws them towards her. They will claim her as their own and there is nothing you can do. Once they claim her, then we will be free at last. Now follow me before any more harm is done to your little group. After all, this is only the beginning." Edwin turned and began his walk back to the mansion.
"Well, that's it, I am going to die." I declared. "I hate cursed objects and places. What if mom and dad knew about this and that is why we were forced by them to come here for the weekend?"
"I hope they didn't, but if they did, I hope they die a painful death." Bella snarled.
We walked into the mansion. The broken window has been repaired, which should have not been possible. "Food will be served in your room. Someone will come and get you for the ritual that will take place at midnight. I wish you luck." Edwin vanished.
"So they are expecting me to comply!" I exclaimed angerly. Fear has left my system. "Who do they think they are?"
"Let's go to your room, James. We'll think of something." Bella assured me. I sighed but followed her up the stairs. "I think we now know why grandpa forbid you to come here the moment you were born."
"He forbid me to come here?" I asked.
"Yeah, but this probably would have happened at one point or another. Our parents would have said something about this place and would have convinced us to come here either way." Bella explained. "This just makes more sense. Halloween was known as one of the most powerful time of year. Mom and dad always acted odd on that day. They have been acting odd the last few months. They must have been planning this for a long time."
"That would make sense. They aren't exactly the best parents." I muttered.
A phone started to ring. "Oh, I forgot I brought my phone!" Susan exclaimed. She ran down the stairs to her bag. "It's still fully charged too! Wicked. An unknown caller though. Hello?" Silence. "No, but I am her sisters friend." More silence. "Okay. James, it's for you." I bounded down the stairs and took the phone from Susan.
"Hello?" I said.
"James? It's Uncle Jim! I don't have good connection, so I have to make this quick. I just found out that you are at that mansion, whatever you do, do not stay in that house! You need to run! There is an attic. Go into that attack and collect some weapons. Guns, swords, anything. There is an old Bible up there your grandfather left. Grab it! It will keep the ghost and demons away from you. Run north! Run as far and as fast as you can. There will be several acres of land to run and you have to go through a forest. Once you get to the river, swim through it. Never look back. Avoid the cult! I will meet you there as soon as I can. Be safe. Don't st-" His voice cut off and the phone went dead. I looked down and tried to turn the phone on.
"Follow me." I ordered.
I ran up the stairs and up to the third floor. I ran into Mandy. Her eyes widen. "I was just looking for you. I will do everything I can to help you. I refuse to let a child go through such a ritual." Mandy declared.
"I need to get to the attic. Do you know where the opening is? My uncle called, he said that there are somethings there that can help us." I explained. She nodded and beckoned us to follow her.
We rushed to the end on the top floor. She showed us the opening of the attic. Emit pulled it down. "Thank you, Mandy."
"Of course, James. I knew your grandfather when I worked here. He moved out as soon as his father died. I worked for him, but I suffered a tragic death due to the cult. Please, get away as fast as you can. Never come back here after you leave. I must warn you though. Not all of you will make it out alive as you try to escape. Two or three will make it. I wish that there was more that I can do for you. Keep that cross on you. Never let it out of your sight. It may be your only safety in the end." I nodded and followed the others up the ladder. I looked back and saw that Mandy had vanished.
"This stuff must be really old." Bella said.
"Hey, these bullets have been dosed in holy water. James, I think you should take this gun." Edward said.
"You're joking. James doesn't know how to use a gun." Bella shouted. I blushed and rubbed the back of my head. "Let me guess, Uncle Jim." I smiled and nodded.
