Chapter 4

Two years later

Time has moved fast, it seems like just yesterday I left the Outland, when I got here, Kaden took me to his home, were they made sure i got an education and it became compulsory to attend the near by school, I also assisted in the kitchen I can't say it was a bad life I was feed, clothed and I had a place to sleep but I always felt like something was missing

Eva, Aunt Agnuis called, yes I responded, help chop these veggies soon breakfast must be served she said, Aunt Agnuis is a wonderful old lady who has worked as the head cook for many years in this house she knew better than anyone what and how things should be prepared, you see everything here is run in perfect order, done at the exact time and way just as the master likes it I haven't seen him in the last two years since I arrived here, I only remember the day he took me.

I busy myself cutting the veggies as Aunt Agnuis jokes that someday I may be a better cook than her if only I paid more attention I laugh along with knowing that I do love cooking but sometimes my mind drifts like when Aunt Anguis told me when I first got to the house that it was strange that they assigned me to a home usally the people that are brought go into camps depending on the test results, they assigned to learn new things and develp a good life here so that the human population can grow, she said that only the babies and extermly young are taken into homes to be taken care of

The other servants come in to take the food to the table, Layla the lady that in charge of running the rest of the house comes in looking a little panicked, what's wrong Aunt Agnuis asked her, we short staffed Marie is sick and Berie is off today we need more hands to serve Aunt Agnuis turns to me, you go help them I am fine in the kitchen for now we don't want the food cold by the time it reaches everyone, I am a little taken aback I have never served or came into actual contact with the masters of the house

Layla seems to relax a bit oh thank goodness she says a little help would certainly save me she smiles I try to hide my worries and smile back at her taking the plate, ok I can do this I try to convince myself walking towards the dining room.

I try to steady myself as I enter looking down I move towards the table Isabel directs me towards the front of the table she tells me that plate goes to the head master I thank her and move in that direction.

I can feel the power of all the people in the room making me want to run for the hills but I am stronger than this I tell myself I place the plate in front of him too afraid to look up I turn to leave but slip he catches me before I hit the ground when I look up I see the most greyed eyes I have ever seen and I can't seem to look away he is steering at me almost as if he is as shocked as I am.

Kaden POV

I could smell her, as she entered the dining hall that sweet smell that keeps on testing my resistance, as she walks towards me with her head down it takes all of my will power not to tell her to look up at me she should never be afraid to look at me I want to see those eyes she leans over to place my plate and her smell is even more intoxicating, she quickly turns to leave but miss steps before even I know it she is in my arms, she is breath taking and she is looking directly into my eyes, she seems surprised as I am she pushes at my hands trying to free herself as she realizes where she is but I can't seem to let her go, I pull her closer to me, Kaden let the girl go I hear my mother say, I reluctantly remove my arms from around her and steady her, are you okay, did you get hurt anywhere I find myself asking, she shakes her head, reminding me of the day I first took her just then Layla rushes in, I am so sorry, we are short staffed and this is the first time Eva is serving she says as she grabs Eva hand about to pull her from me, I growl, all heads snap to me surprised at my reaction even i am, don't touch her I say, Layla is quick to remove her hand, I am sorry, I will make sure to get a well-trained server in place as quick as possible she says, I look at Eva and she is trembling, no you won't, Eva will serve me from now on I find myself saying, both of them look back at me wide eyed, but, uhm okay as you wish Layla says, she starts to pull Eva again I takes all of my will power not to stop them this time, I take my seat again, eat I snap, everyone turn back to their plates and starts eating.

Eva POV

Layla pulls me out of the hall, as she pushes the door closed , I tell her that I am sorry I don't know how I slipped, I didn't mean to cause you trouble I say, it is okay mistakes happen and it was your first time, if anything I am sorry I shouldn't have made you serve Master Kaden she says as she hugs me, we head back and immediately Aunt Agnuis pulls me into a hug, my baby, I won't send you out of this kitchen again, you will always stay by my side she says, both me and Layla look at each other knowing that cannot happen, Aunt Agnuis dishes breakfast for us as we convey what happened in the hall about how I must now serve Master Kaden, we all baffled by his request after the mess-up, we don't speak of it again as we prepare the bread that will be served for lunch, once done I go to tend to the garden were we grow our own vegetables, it is quite hot outside as we are in the middle of summer, I sometimes enjoy the heat, it reminds me of home, I look up as I hear the door open I see Ana come towards me I pick her up and spin her around, I can't believe two years went by, Ana was only a baby when her mother gave her up and she came here with me, I first wondered how could her mother do that but today I am glad she is given a much better life here than what she would have had, she has good clothes, there is always food and they teaching her, she will be someone someday, we continue to play, we laugh as I catch her again, me forgetting my worries for that time.

But soon I hear the clock signaling that it is almost time for lunch, I grab Ana and we head back inside.
