Chapter 4
ivory pov
My eyes widened in shock, beads of sweat forming on my skin. I stared at her and she returned the gaze, the sinister smile still plastered on her face.
She moved towards me.
I tried my best to inch back, trying not to fall off the bed.
Who was she? And why did she have such a suffocating presence?
"Why do you seem so scared?" She asked, c*****g her head and I squinted, trying to see if I could recognize her face, but…
Memories flooded in, and I immediately recognized who she was; it was Nyx.
My gaze softened as I sighed in relief.
"Since you were able to survive, and the stupid supreme commander also believes in you, then you should complete your mission," she said sharply.
“Why haven't you completed the mission?”
Her smile vanished and she had a frown on her face. I stared at her outfit; a form fitting bodysuit with a midnight blue hoodie.
She wore dark lipstick, fingerless gloves and knee high leather boots. I could see the sheaths for her daggers hoisted at her hips.
My eyes glinted as I turned to her sharply.
"I'm still alive, that doesn't mean I'm not hurt. What happened to the rules about a member's injury?" I asked.
She stared at me, her gaze cold, quiet and calculating.
"You disobeyed them, Ivy. You always wanted to finish each mission you were given by yourself," she replied and I froze.
Truly, I had the memory of Ivy's stubbornness and always finishing her mission despite injuries, but I never expected her to remember.
I should be very careful or else I will blow my cover.
"Now that you are given the opportunity, you want to disobey again. Are you really diligent or just fond of disobeying?" She asked, her eyes carrying a glint of dismay.
I gritted my teeth wishing I could bang my fist into her face at that moment.
"This time around, it's different. They are already suspicious of my identity; staying here would only bring me certain death," I replied and she scoffed.
"Those excuses are none of my business. I’ve passed the message I was asked to pass,"
She folded her arms, her brows furrowed in what seemed like annoyance and irritation as she stared at me.
"How long do I have for the mission?" I asked, staring ahead of her. She scoffed, rolling her eyes.
"Three days."
My eyes widened as I looked at her.
Three days?
I wouldn't even be recovered by that time.
"That's impossible. I'm hardly able to move; how am I supposed to do the job in this condition?"
A soft chuckle escaped her lips and she shook her head.
"How is that supposed to be my business? I thought you always challenged the impossible. What's wrong now? Did the incident damage your brain?" She asked, and I smiled.
If I were to answer truthfully, it would be a yes.
"I don't know what I could do before, but right now I can't do it because I'm physically challenged. Also, the alpha doesn't trust me."
“Of course he won't. He'll have to cut your pay then. He says you can come back if you want, as long as you're ready to face the consequences," she said and I stared at her blankly.
"My pay? Consequences?" I looked at her, my brows furrowed in confusion and she scoffed.
"Don't pretend you don't know about this?" She remarked.
There was a snicker in her voice as she added.
"I forgot, you have never flaked on a mission before. You get punished for every mission you drop, and if the mission isn't done in time by the others, you will be handed over to the one who asked for the deal."
She said, and I squinted my eyes in suspicion and then raised my brows at her words.
She ignored my gestures as she continued.
" Just so you remember these are the rules and darling, the punishments aren't simple," she said and I hardened my jaws.
"Fine, I'll do it. But not within the time frame you gave," I replied with a small frown.
She murmured with a shrug
"Whatever you say."
She turned around, about to leave when I told her,
"Tell him I want to…"
A loud alarm rang out, cutting me short. I blinked and just like the wind she was gone.
I stood to my feet, still holding on to the knife. She was gone and the room looked perfectly normal.
No sign of a break in. One would think I had been talking to myself the whole time.
The once quiet hospital was now a hubbub of noise. Rustling sounds of silk and loud footsteps echoed loudly all over the floors.
What was going on?
"Don't panic, everyone." A voice came through the transmitter, my heart skipped a beat . What if she was already caught and on her way to be investigated?
No. Nyx would never let that happen.
"It's just a little fire that broke out; everything is under control now."
I breathed a sigh of relief as I heard those words. I rubbed my eyes as I stood at the window staring out into the quiet night, several thoughts racing through my mind.
The door flew open and a nurse peeked in.
"Is everything alright here?" She asked as she inched forward.
I nodded at her question and she smiled.
She did another quick sweep of the room and closed the door.

Everything was already packed up and ready for me to leave, but I wasn't.
My legs were still weak, and I could only take a few steps before they turned to jelly and wobbled, or at least I had to deceive Raphus and make him believe that this was the case.
Raphus Blackwood, Alpha of the Crimson pack.
Raphus soon came in, looking at the nurse as she strapped me into the wheelchair.
"Are you sure she needs this? Wouldn't it be better to give her crutches?" he asked, and the nurse chuckled, passing the items to Raphus' guard.
"There's nothing wrong with her legs. She's just too weak to walk for long; she doesn't need crutches," the nurse said, and he nodded, moving behind me as he held onto the handle.
"If that's so, then let me help you." With those words, he pushed the chair forward. We soon arrived at the room where he had to take me into. He paused for a minute before he asked,
"You can go in yourself, right?"
I nodded, and he smiled, moving out of the way to let me in. I returned the smile and prepared to wheel myself in when he suddenly blocked the entrance.
Our eyes met and I almost shuddered at the chilling intensity it had.
Ivy, you're not going to shrink. Not now, not ever.
"You're not going anywhere.".
