Chapter 8

590 Words
Two and a half hours later I'm still in the emergency room awaiting the x-ray results. The doctor said that my ankle didn't appear to be broken but it was better to have an x-ray to be sure. After that, a nurse came to me to clean and disinfect my cuts. The one on my forehead stung like hell and because it was kinda big it needed some stitches. "How could I get hurt so badly?!" I thought to myself. Ten minutes after the nurse left, the doctor finally arrives. He is a mid fifties medium height man with dark hair and a thick mustache. He turns to me and says " Good news. Your ankle it's not broken. It's just badly sprained. I'm going to prescribe you some medicines to help with the pain and swelling. You need to rest and keep that ankle elevated. You should also apply some ice… at least 4 times a day. That will also help with the swelling. Here." He hands me a piece of paper. "I made an appointment for you, three weeks from now. You should be well recovered by then." He goes to his computer and starts typing something. "Do you have any questions?" "No sir." I reply. I start hearing the printer. The paper finally comes out and the doctor gives it to me. "Here. This is your prescription. You need to take this medication every 8 hours, with food for one week. After that you can take it only if you feel pain." "All right. Thank you doctor." "No problem." The doctor leaves the room. Five seconds later a nurse comes in with a pair of clutches and hands them to me "Here you need these now." "I guess I do. I haven't thought about that." The nurse gives a small chuckle. "Is anyone coming to get you?" She asks. "No, I have no one coming for me and my phone broke so I can't use it to call a cab." I state. "Well you can go to the front desk and ask them to call you a cab. It 's no problem." She offers. "Thank you! I'll do that." Following that the nurse left and I grabbed the clutches. I mentally prayed that I would not fall on my ass again today. All things considered, at least this time I would already be in the hospital… Walking with crutches until the front desk was a challenge, to say the least. I had never broken or sprained anything, so this was a first for me. When I arrived at the front desk they quickly called me a cab and someone even helped me get in the cab. Later, when I arrived home the cab driver helped me out of the cab. Faith in humanity restored! In the evening, after I showered and put on clean clothes, I sat on the couch and let out a sigh. My body is sore all over, my ankle hurts like hell and I forgot to go to the pharmacy to fill the prescription. I'm guessing I will not sleep all that much tonight. I take out me notebook and start to make a list of things I need to absolutely do tomorrow: 1. Go to the pharmacy 2. Go grocery shopping 3. Buy a new phone 4. ... I thought I had more stuff to do… Now that I put it in a list, it doesn't seem that much. The only problem is that I am in clutches. Tomorrow should be fun!
